Do you have trouble finishing your work within a given time Do you find yourself having to scramble (艰难完成) through your work because time is running out It is important to manage your time properly.
First, you should write down your tasks on paper. This is to make sure that you do not miss any of them. Having them written down somewhere ensures that you will get the task completed even if you forget about it. Of course, you need to make sure that the task list is always within your sight. Make sure you have a clear view of your tasks. You can write them down in a diary.
After you have written down your tasks, it is time to plan your action. The breaks ensure that you have a moment to run away from stress until you return to continue from where you left off.
Above all, however, don’t procrastinate because it is your number one enemy. Procrastination can also mean that you will not be focused when you do your work. Time is valuable, so do not waste it by procrastinating. Focus on completing the task and get it over once and for all.

根据第二段“First, you should write down your tasks on paper. (首先,你应该把你的任务写在纸上。)”可知,可以在纸上写下任务。故填On paper。
根据第三段“I suggest that you complete the urgent tasks first, but at the same time, be sure to include some time to take breaks in between. The breaks ensure that you have a moment to run away from stress until you return to continue from where you left off. (我建议你先完成紧急的任务,但与此同时,一定要留出一些休息的时间。休息确保你有时间逃离压力,直到你回到你离开的地方继续。)可知,任务之间要休息一下是因为这样做我们可以有时间逃离压力。故填Because we can have a moment to run away from stress。
根据最后一段“Above all, however, don’t procrastinate because it is your number one enemy. (但最重要的是,不要拖延,因为拖延是你的头号敌人。)可知,最大的敌人是拖延而不是没有关注,因此we will not be focused错误。故填Our biggest enemy when we manage our time properly is that we will not be focused. Because our biggest enemy is procrastination。

Traci Ruble, a psychotherapist (心理治疗师), felt worried that people today were experiencing loneliness and a shortage of personal connections. She understood that with busy lives and challenging jobs, people were unable to make these connections.
So on a spring day in 2015, Ruble and a small number of volunteers set up chairs on sidewalks in 12 locations around San Francisco, California and invited people passing by to sit for a few minutes and chat. This was the beginning of Sidewalk Talk, an organization whose mission is to create public spaces of connections where the people are.
Today, the organization has more than 4,000 volunteers in 40 cities. Around 25 percent of the volunteers are licensed therapists (持证治疗师).They come from different backgrounds and are a mixed group. Volunteers receive training from the organization.
Listening activities are held several times a month along with other organizations. In San Francisco, Sidewalk Talk partners with Lava Mae, a nongovernmental organization (NGO) that brings mobile showers to homeless people.
Sidewalk Talk gives people a chance to speak and be listened to but it is not therapy, according to Ruble. “I’m not interacting as a therapist out there. I’m not there to solve someone’s problems,” she said. “I’m there to practice being human.”
Ruble stressed that therapy is one-sided and that therapists are taught to avoid self-disclosure (自我表露) but by “being human” she could carry out interactions by sharing her own life and showing empathy (同感) with the people she talks with.
According to a report, 31 percent of all Americans experience serious loneliness, including 61 percent of young adults. To fix that, rebuilding community relationships is very important. While listening activities will not solve the loneliness problem, these chats could help someone have a brighter day. Knowing that there are empathetic people who are willing to fully listen and share your feelings could make all the difference to a lonely person.
5.What is Traci Ruble’s worry about people nowadays
6.Why was Sidewalk Talk set up
7.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
In Ruble’s opinion, Sidewalk Talk gives people a chance to talk with therapists who can give them special treatment and solve their problems.
8.In addition to rebuilding community relationships, what do you think are some other ways to solve the loneliness problem (About 40 words)
5.People were experiencing loneliness and a shortage of personal connections. 6.To create public spaces of connections where the people gather. 7.In Ruble’s opinion, Sidewalk Talk gives people a chance to talk with therapists who can give them special treatment and solve their problems.
The reason is that while Sidewalk Talk may give people a chance to talk, Ruble says it is not therapy and she is not there to solve someone’s problems. Volunteers are there to practice being human and to listen and empathize with those they talk with, not to provide special treatment. 8.To solve the loneliness problem, we can establish more social groups and activities to encourage people to interact and communicate with each other. This can help people feel more connected and reduce their sense of isolation.
根据文章第一段“Traci Ruble, a psychotherapist(心理治疗师), felt worried that people today were experiencing loneliness and a shortage of personal connections. She understood that with busy lives and challenging jobs, people were unable to make these connections.(心理治疗师Traci Ruble担心,今天的人们正在感到孤独,缺乏人际关系。她明白,忙碌的生活和富有挑战性的工作,人们无法建立这些联系)”可知,Traci Ruble担心如今的人感到孤独,缺乏人际关系。故答案为People were experiencing loneliness and a shortage of personal connections.
根据文章第一段“Traci Ruble, a psychotherapist(心理治疗师), felt worried that people today were experiencing loneliness and a shortage of personal connections. She understood that with busy lives and challenging jobs, people were unable to make these connections.(心理治疗师Traci Ruble担心,今天的人们正在感到孤独,缺乏人际关系。她明白,忙碌的生活和富有挑战性的工作,人们无法建立这些联系。)”可知,现在的人们正在感到孤独,缺乏人际关系,忙碌的生活和富有挑战性的工作让人们无法建立这些联系。再根据文章第二段“So on a spring day in 2015, Ruble and a small number of volunteers set up chairs on sidewalks in 12 locations around San Francisco, California and invited people passing by to sit for a few minutes and chat. This was the beginning of Sidewalk Talk, an organization whose mission is to create public spaces of connections where the people are.(因此,在2015年春天的一天,Ruble和少数志愿者在加利福尼亚州旧金山周围的12个地点的人行道上放置了椅子,并邀请路过的人坐下来聊几分钟。这就是“Sidewalk Talk”的开始,这个组织的使命是在人们聚集的地方创造公共空间)”,可知,Sidewalk Talk的开创是为了创造公共空间,供人们聊天,从而解决人们感到孤独、缺乏人际关系的问题。故答案为To create public spaces of connections where the people gather.
根据文章第五段“Sidewalk Talk gives people a chance to speak and be listened to but it is not therapy, according to Ruble. “I’m not interacting as a therapist out there. I’m not there to solve someone’s problems,” she said. “I’m there to practice being human.”(Ruble说,“Sidewalk Talk”给人们提供了一个说话和被倾听的机会,但这不是治疗。“我不是在以治疗师的身份进行互动。我不是去解决别人的问题,我是来练习做人的。”她说。)”以及第六段“Ruble stressed that therapy is one-sided and that therapists are taught to avoid self-disclosure(自我表露)but by “being human” she could carry out interactions by sharing her own life and showing empathy(同感)with the people she talks with. (Ruble强调,治疗是片面的,治疗师被教导要避免自我表露,但通过“同为人”,她可以通过分享自己的生活和对她谈话的人表现出同情来进行互动。)”可知,在Ruble看来,Sidewalk Talk是为人们提供了一个机会让人们可以说话和被倾听,是一种互动而不是去解决问题。故答案为In Ruble’s opinion, Sidewalk Talk gives people a chance to talk with therapists who can give them special treatment and solve their problems. The reason is that while Sidewalk Talk may give people a chance to talk, Ruble says it is not therapy and she is not there to solve someone’s problems. Volunteers are there to practice being human and to listen and empathize with those they talk with, not to provide special treatment.
To solve the loneliness problem, we can establish more social groups and activities to encourage people to interact and communicate with each other. This can help people feel more connected and reduce their sense of isolation.
We often hear about the negative aspects of anxiety, but could there be any advantages or benefits that come from living with anxiety Anxiety is a feeling that is often characterized by intense fear and worry.
Many individuals with anxiety describe it as a feeling of nervousness and fear that can be distracting and all-consuming. It is typically experienced on many levels, affecting one’s emotions and leading to uncomfortable physical sensations, and negative thoughts. However, have you ever considered some of the possible positive effects that may come with having anxiety Scientists have learned that some degree of stress or anxiety isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Good stress, something now referred to as eustress, keeps us motivated and excited about life. It appears that some degree of anxiety may have similar “silver linings”.
Anxiety may be just the warning sign you need to bring awareness to your current situation and make some necessary changes in your life. For example, you may find that you have a friendship that is no longer working, or perhaps your job is causing a great deal of stress. Your anxiety can be difficult to manage, but exploring and coping with your anxiety can be a real opportunity for self-growth.
Anxiety may help you feel more motivated and prepared when faced with challenges. Research has shown that students and athletes who experienced some anxiety actually performed better on tests or in competitive sports. For instance, perhaps your anxiety assists you in putting extra effort into work or personal tasks, making a good impression, or moving towards your goals.
People who have dealt with anxiety may be more sympathetic and understanding to the problems that others face. Having gone through personal struggles yourself, you may be more sensitive, loving, and accepting when friends and family members are dealing with personal challenges.
Even though there can be some potential benefits to experiencing anxiety, it is worthwhile to point that it can also become a real challenge to many aspects of your life. If anxiety is preventing you from living the life you desire, then it may be time to get professional help.
9.What is anxiety according to the passage
10.Why can students with some anxiety perform better on tests
11.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
Since there can be some potential benefits to experiencing anxiety, people should work hard to beat it, whatever anxiety they meet.
12.How will you deal with anxiety in your life (In about 40 words)
9.Anxiety is a feeling that is often characterized by intense fear and worry. 10.Anxiety may help you feel more motivated and prepared when faced with challenges. 11.If anxiety is indeed preventing you from living the life you desire, then it may be time to get professional help. 12.In our daily life we can deal with anxiety by accommodating more or removing the volume that was creating the most pressure. For example, when I feel anxious, I will go running to release the pressure in this way.

根据最后一段“Even though there can be some potential benefits to experiencing anxiety, it is worthwhile to point that it can also become a real challenge to many aspects of your life. If anxiety is preventing you from living the life you desire, then it may be time to get professional help.”(尽管经历焦虑可能有一些潜在的好处,但值得指出的是,它也可能成为你生活中许多方面的真正挑战。 If anxiety is indeed preventing you from living the life you desire, then it may be time to get professional help.
In our daily life we can deal with anxiety by accommodating more or removing the volume that was creating the most pressure. For example, when I feel anxious, I will go running to release the pressure in this way.

Stress
It is commonly believed that only rich middle-aged businessmen suffer from stress. In fact anyone may become ill as a result of stress . If they experience a lot of worry over a long period and their health is not especially good.
Stress can be a friend or an enemy: it can warn you that you are under too much pressure and should change your way of life. It can kill you if you don’t notice the warning signals.
Doctors agree that it is probably the biggest single cause of illness in the Western world. When we are very frightened and worried, our bodies produce certain chemicals to help us fight what is troubling us. Unfortunately, these chemicals produce the energy needed to run away fast from an object of fear, and in modern life that’s often impossible. If we don’t use up these chemicals, or if we produce too many of them, they may actually harm us.
The parts of the body that are most affected by stress are the stomach, heart, skin, head and back. Stress can cause car accidents, heart attacks, and alcoholism, and may even drive people to suicide.
Our living and working conditions may put us under stress. Overcrowding in large cities, traffic jams, competition for jobs, worry about the future, any big changes in our lives, may cause stress. Some British doctors have pointed out that one of Britain’s worst waves of influenza happened soon after the new coins came into use. Also if you have changed jobs or moved house in recent months you are more likely to fall ill than if you haven’t. And more people commit suicide in times of inflation.
As with all illnesses, prevention is better than cure. If you find you can’t relax, it is a sign of danger. “When you’re taking work home, when you can’t enjoy an evening with friends, when you haven’t time for outdoor exercise —that is the time to stop and ask yourself whether your present life really suits you.” Says one family doctor. Then it’s time to join a relaxation class, or take up dancing, painting or gardening.”
13.What often leads to people’s illness in western countries according to the passage
14.Some British doctors have pointed out that one of Britain’s worst waves of influenza happened soon after the new coins came into use. Why is this example given

The musician Moby once said, “Music has no form whatsoever — all it is air moving just a little bit differently. It’s the only art form that you can’t touch.” It is true that we cannot touch music, but that does not mean that music is an invisible art form. There is, in fact, a way to “see” music.
How can we see music Neuroscientists, people study the human brain, use MRI machines (magnetic resonance imaging machines) to look inside the brain. These tools let them see what actually happens in the brain when people are doing things. For example, the tools let them see the neurons (神经细胞), or brain cells that are in use when people are listening to music. Computer screens linked to MRIs show neurons lighting up when they are in use. And when people listen to music, neurons light up in many parts of the brain.
Neuroscientists have discovered that it isn’t necessary to hear music for the neurons to light up. Even when you just think about a song, these neurons light up. In addition, the same neural activity in the same part of the brain happens when people experience other pleasurable activities. For example, some of the same neurons light up when we eat something delicious or hug a loved one. This is because these neurons are in the areas of the brain that reward us by making us feel good. Negative feelings such as fear or anxiety make neurons in a different area light up. However, when an anxious or frightened person listens to pleasurable music, these neurons stop lighting up.
Now that neuroscientists can “see” the, effects of music on the brain, they want to know what the benefits of music are. It turns out there are many benefits. Neuroscientists have discovered that music can help memory and may keep our brain young. Recent studies show that an elderly musician often has a better visual memory than an elderly non-musician. For example, elderly musicians are better at memorizing a written list of words than their non-musician peers.
Why does music have so many benefits The answer may be because it uses so many different parts of the brain. According to neuroscientists, using many parts of the brain at one time gives your brain a good “workout.” In fact, one of the best brain “works” is to read music and play a musical instrument at the same time. Reading music while playing an instrument is a challenging task. It uses more parts of the brain simultaneously than most other activities and requires excellent coordination (协调性). It involves both physical movement and mental activity, much like playing a sport such as soccer.
So, although Moby is completely correct that we cannot touch music, it is possible to “see” the effect of music on our brains. There is still a lot to learn about the effects of music on our brains. However, there is no doubt that scientists have shown that music is an extremely powerful art form with many positive effects.
17.How do MRIs help people “see” music
18.Why did the author mention the elderly musician in paragraph 4
19.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
Pleasurable activities and negative feelings activate neurons in the same part of the brain, but in a different way.
20.Now that you know the many benefits of music, how do you think, music may be able to help you solve your problems in your life (in about 40 words)
17.Computer screens linked to MRIs show neurons lighting up when they are in use. And when people listen to music, neurons light up in many parts of the brain. 18.To support the idea that music can help memory and keep our brain young. 19.Pleasurable activities and negative feelings activate neurons in the same part of the brain, but in a different way.
According to the article, negative feelings make neurons in different area light up. 20. Music plays an important part in my life. Whenever I go through hard times and feel discouraged, lisening to music always gives me hope and strength, and brings me relief and a sense of satisfaction。
根据第二段“How can we see music Neuroscientists, people study the human brain, use MRI machines (magnetic resonance imaging machines) to look inside the brain. These tools let them see what actually happens in the brain when people are doing things. For example, the tools let them see the neurons (神经细胞), or brain cells that are in use when people are listening to music. And when people listen to music, neurons light up in many parts of the brain.
根据第四段中“Neuroscientists have discovered that music can help memory and may keep our brain young. Recent studies show that an elderly musician often has a better visual memory than an elderly non-musician. For example, elderly musicians are better at memorizing a written list of words than their non-musician peers.(既然神经科学家可以“看到”音乐对大脑的影响,他们想知道音乐的好处是什么。事实证明,这样做有很多好处。神经科学家发现,音乐可以帮助记忆,让我们的大脑保持年轻。最近的研究表明,一个年老的音乐家通常比一个年老的非音乐家有更好的视觉记忆。例如,年长的音乐家比非音乐家的同龄人更擅长记忆书面单词列表。)”可知,文中提到了年老的音乐家是为了支持文中所阐述的“music can help memory and may keep our brain young(音乐可以帮助记忆和保持大脑年轻)”这一观点。 To support the idea that music can help memory and keep our brain young.
根据第三段中“In addition, the same neural activity in the same part of the brain happens when people experience other pleasurable activities. For example, some of the same neurons light up when we eat something delicious or hug a loved one. This is because these neurons are in the areas of the brain that reward us by making us feel good. Negative feelings such as fear or anxiety make neurons in a different area light up. However, when an anxious or frightened person listens to pleasurable music, these neurons stop lighting up.(此外,当人们经历其他愉快的活动时,大脑的同一部分也会发生相同的神经活动。 Pleasurable activities and negative feelings activate neurons in the same part of the brain, but in a different way. According to the article, negative feelings make neurons in different area light up.
Music plays an important part in my life. Whenever I go through hard times and feel discouraged, lisening to music always gives me hope and strength, and brings me relief and a sense of satisfaction。
The word “spiritual” comes from the Latin spiritus, which means “breath.” Originally, that which was spiritual was simply that which was breathtaking. From this perspective, a spiritual experience is anything that is awe-inspiring. People of all religions—or none at all—can equally experience such awe-inspiring events. Spirituality doesn’t rely on a set system of teachings or beliefs; it is merely the joy of being present in the moment and experiencing the awe (敬畏) and wonder of living.
Definitions of ecospirituality include “an expression of the spiritual connection between human beings and the environment” and “understanding the interrelationships between all living beings on earth and recognizing their interdependency while appreciating their value for maintaining ecobalance.” Others feel ecospirituality is the connectedness between the science of ecology and spirituality. Put simply, it is the personal experience of spirituality in nature. Although definitions may vary, all point to a sense of oneness with nature, and address our basic need for reconnecting with the environment.
Although there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to ecospirituality, there are a few common concepts throughout the practice. Things like feeling connected with the universe, knowing the risks involved in creating an imbalance in the ecosystem, protecting nature—and most importantly—sensing a feeling of “awe” in learning about our environment and ecosystem are all included in ecospirituality. Embracing a way of life that honors all living beings on our planet is what ecospirituality involves.
At this point, you’re probably wondering what you can do to integrate ecospirituality into your life. And the answer is simple! Start with a daily gratitude practice, focusing on what you are grateful for in nature every day. This simple exercise will not only positively benefit your outlook on life, but it will also motivate you to take actionable steps in preserving Earth’s many gifts.
Once you have a solid gratitude practice in place, consider spending more time in nature. Studies show that something as simple as taking a mindful walk outdoors can reduce stress and overthinking. And remember to be mindful while participating in nature! The key to ecospirituality is to let our beautiful planet take your breath away. And how can you do that if you don’t stop to smell the roses

For millions of Facebook users, choosing which photo to use for an online profile is an important decision. According to a study by researchers at the UT Dallas Center, the photos we select may reflect individual preferences, but they also appear to reflect more deeply rooted, unconscious cultural differences. Previous research has shown that culture can affect not only language and custom, but also how we experience the world and process information. Western cultures, for example, condition people to think of themselves as highly independent entities (实体), whereas East Asian cultures stress collectivism and interdependence.
Dr. Denise Park, co-director of the Center at UT Dallas, and former graduate student Dr. Chih-Mao Huang of the University of Illinois, were curious about whether these patterns of cultural influence extend to cyberspace. In a paper published in the International Journal of Psychology, they examined the profile photographs of more than 500 active Facebook users from the United States and East Asia. Overall, they found that profile photos of Americans are more likely to focus on the individual’s face, while the profiles of East Asians tend to less emphasize the face and include more background features. Americans also show greater smile intensity compared to East Asian Facebook users.
The findings show marked cultural differences in the focus of attention among East Asian and American Facebook users. Moreover, they echo previous research on cultural influences on visual sense, attention, and reasoning in the offline world.
“We believe these findings relate to a cultural difference to be more individualistic and independent in the US and more communal and interdependent in Asia,” said Park.
The research also found that cultural influences over our self-presentation online can shift over time and from place to place. In one of the study samples, Americans studying in Japan and Japanese studying in the United States both showed a tendency to adjust their profile photos to the general preferences of their host country.
“Facebook constitutes an extended social context in which personal profiles mirror various individual characteristics, private thoughts, and social behaviors,” noted Huang. “As such, the study presents a new approach to investigate cognition and behaviors across cultures by using Facebook as a data collection platform.”
25.What may an online profile photo reflect
26.According to the research, how are American and East Asian Facebook users different in choosing their profile photos
27.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.

At the 2020 Grammy Award Show, 20-year-old Lil Nas X took the stage to perform his mega-hit, “Old Town Road” Wearing a cowboy outfit, he was joined by some top artists. Together, they created a show-stealing moment. As he danced across the stage to thunderous applause, it was hard to believe that just a year before, few people had even heard of Lil Nas X. It had been quite the year.
Lil Nas X was born in 1999 near Atlanta, Georgia. His parents divorced when he was young, and he spent his lonely teenage years on the Internet, especially Twitter. He was always into music, but he never saw himself doing music.
That changed after high school. At 19, Lil Nas was a college dropout working at a fast-food restaurant. One night, he found a beat online that made him think of a “loner cowboy runaway”. He bought the beat for $30 and built a song around it. Soon after, he released “Old Town Road”. It was a strange song-a mix of hip-hop and country-and it was about to take the world by storm.
Thanks to Lil Nas’ social-media promotion, “Old Town Road” went viral on TikTok, racked up massive streams, and started climbing the charts. Within a few months, Lil Nas X had a great number of fans, and a deal with Columbia Records.
The spotlight brought challenges, though. Billboard pulled “Old Town Road” from the country charts, arguing that it didn’t sound enough like country, a move that some criticized as having racial overtones. Then Lil Nas came out as gay-a difficult and brave decision considering that country music and hip-hop hadn’t always been welcoming to gay artists.
But Lil Nas emerged stronger from the hurdles. He recruited a country singer to join him in a remix of “Old Town Road” that shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for a record-breaking 19 weeks.
Lil Nas X’s unusual path to superstardom has inspired a new generation of musicians. Other rappers have since landed major record deals after promoting their music on social media. As Billy Ray Cyrus put it, think a lot of artists out there can look at this and say, “Hey man, this is a green light.”
As for Lil Nas himself, he shows no signs of slowing down. He has more music on the way, and he says although his newfound fame can be overwhelming, he’s enjoying the ride. “Everything lined up for this moment to take me to this place ”
29.What inspired Lil Nas to create the song “Old Town Road”

I got the idea to start Amazon 16 years ago. I came across the fact that the Internet usage was growing at 2300 percent per year. I’d never seen or heard of anything that grew that fast, and the idea of building an online bookstore with millions of titles was very exciting to me. I had just turned 30, and I’d been married for a year. I told my wife that I wanted to quit my job and go to do this crazy thing that probably wouldn’t work since most start-ups don’t and I wasn’t sure what to expect. She told me I should go for it. As a young boy, I had been a garage inventor. I had always wanted to be an inventor, and she wanted me to follow my passion.
I was working at a financial firm in New York City with a bunch of very smart people and a brilliant boss that I much admired. I went to my boss and told him that I wanted to start a company selling books on the Internet. He took me on a long walk in Central Park, listened carefully to me and finally said, “That sounds like a really good idea, but it would be an even better idea for someone who didn’t already have a good job.” That logic made some sense to me, and he convinced me to think about it for 48 hours before making a final decision. Seen in that light, it really was a difficult choice, but ultimately, I decided I had to give it a shot. I didn’t think I would regret trying and failing. And I suspected that I would always be haunted by a decision to not try at all.
After much consideration, I took the less secure path to follow my passion, and I’m proud of that choice. For all of us, in the end, we are our choices.
