Text 10
Mary had some mental problems. So she went to see the doctor. The doctor was new, and did not know her. So he first asked her some questions. One of the questions was “What is your age?” “Well,” Mary answered, “I don't quite remember, doctor. But I will try to think.” She thought for a while and then said, “Yes, I remember now, doctor. When I married, I was twenty-two years old, and my husband was thirty then. Now he is sixty, I know, and that is twice thirty, and so I am twice twenty-two. That is forty-four, isn't it?”

Gardening can be a very relaxing hobby for many people and this wonderful experience is not just for adults. Children are interested in gardening as well, if given the chance to explore nature and science in this way. Gardening can bring joy to both children and their parents alike, especially when the experience is shared together.
The time that is spent gardening together builds precious memories within their hearts and minds for years to come. When you are gardening with your children, try to give them their own special area. Keep their area in the centre of the best soil and light, as you want to make sure of a successful gardening experience.
Plastic tools easily break and are difficult to use in the dirt, so when you are gardening with your children, give them real tools to use if possible. Even offering to let them use your tools is a way to admit the worth of the work they are doing. It is also important to talk with your children about the whole process of gardening, from planting to the harvest. They need to understand how things work and the importance of what they are doing.
Show off the children's gardening work by taking friends and visitors for a walking tour through the garden and point out the children's particular spot. When you give attention to the children's work, this is a great motivation (动机) for children to continue wanting to be involved. Do not force children to take part when they are in a bad mood or if they are becoming bored. Instead, allow them to do something different, like building a scarecrow (稻草人)! This makes the gardening experience even more interesting. As you work together side by side with your children, you will encourage a love of the land in them, as well as create lasting memories of time spent with you.

A. Teaching children how to garden.
B. Giving children the chance to show off.

22.Why should you introduce your children's work to your friends?
A. It makes your friends believe your children are smart.
B. It helps you gain more confidence in your children.
C. It encourages children to continue doing such work.
D. It attracts your friends to take part in your gardening.
答案与解析 C 根据第四段中的“Show off the children's gardening work by taking friends and visitors for a walking tour through the garden and point out the children's particular spot. When you give attention to the children's work, this is a great motivation (动机) for children to continue wanting to be involved.”

Do you sometimes argue about what seems to you to be a simple fact? Do you argue whether it's cold outdoors or whether the car in front of you is going faster than the speed limit?
If you get into such arguments, try to think about the story about the six blind men and the elephant. The first blind man who felt the elephant's trunk said it was like a snake. The second who felt the elephant's side said it was like a wall, while the third said it was like a spear as he touched the animal's tusk. The fourth, who took hold of the elephant's tail insisted that it was like a rope. The fifth man said it looked like a tree as he put his arms around one of the elephant's legs. The sixth, who was tall and got hold of the elephant's ears, said it was like a huge fan.
Each man's idea of the animal came from his own experience. So if someone disagrees with you about a “simple fact”, it's often because his experience in the matter is different from yours.
To see how hard it is for even one person to make up his mind about a “simple fact”, try this simple experiment. Get three large bowls. Put ice water in one. Put hot water in the second. Put lukewarm water (冷水) in the third. Now put your left hand in the ice water. Put your right hand in the hot water. After thirty seconds, put both hands in the lukewarm water. Your right hand will tell you the water is cold. Your left hand will tell you it's hot.
24.What makes people think about simple facts differently?
A. The fact that simple facts differ from one another.
B. The fact that people have different experience in the same simple fact.
C. The fact that people often disagree with one another.
D. The fact that it's hard to make up one's mind about simple facts.

Neighbours play an important role in our lives. Their lifestyle, friends, and social habits can have a strong influence on our lives. So it's a good idea to get along well with neighbours and build a better relationship that will last for many years to come. But how should you get along with your neighbours?
When you hear of a special need you can meet, do it, such as sitting with a sick child while your neighbour goes to work or taking an elderly parent to a doctor's appointment when their car won't start.
If you hear that someone close by is ill, has an accident, or is out of work, give him or her a hot meal or a fresh dessert. Your kindness will add a special feeling during a difficult time. If your neighbour is cutting down a tree or building a doghouse, offer helping hands to him or her. There is no better way to build relationships. Besides, you never know when the favor might be returned.
Exchange holiday cards, gifts or traditions. Invite your neighbours over for a cup of coffee or lunch. A backyard barbecue can be a great way to share food and fun. If they've watched your kids grow up or been concerned about your family events, they may want to share these special events.
Plan a party. Invite all your neighbours to your party. Planning and carrying out the activity helps everyone to know and understand each other.
Your neighbours are like your family in many ways since you have to live with them, or near them for a long time. Appreciate their strong points and ignore weak points, and everyone will get along well.

Making friends is a skill like most skills. It improves with practice. If you want to meet people and make friends, you must be willing to take some action. You must first go where there are people. __36__
Joining a club or a group, talking with those who like the same things as you do is much easier. Or join someone in some activity.
__37__ After all meeting strangers means facing the unknown. And it's human nature to feel a bit uncomfortable about the unknown. Most of our fears about dealing with new people come from doubts about ourselves. We imagine other people are judging us, finding us too tall or too short, too this or too that. __38__ Try to accept yourself as you are, and try to put the other person at ease. You'll both feel more comfortable.
Try to act self-confident even if you don't feel that way. When you enter a room full of strangers, such as a new classroom, walk tall and straight, look directly at other people and smile, and say something. __39__
Just meeting someone new does not mean that you will make friends with that person — friendship is based on mutual (相互的) liking and “give and take”. __40__
A. Don't wait for the other person to start a conversation.
B. But don't forget that they must be feeling the same way.
C. You won't make friends staying home alone.
D. It depends on one's character to make good friends.
E. It takes time and effort to develop.
F. Many people are nervous when talking to new people.
G. I'm a shy person and it is very difficult for me to make friends with other people.

60.C never意为“从未”,由第58空所在的句子“She lives by herself in that big house.”

Tom: If so, his mother's heart __70__ (sink) at the sad news.
61.It 根据句式It is reported that ...“据报道……”
62.in in one's search for ...“搜寻……”。
65.being taken 根据fancy sb.'s doing sth.“想象某人做某事”的用法可知该空填动名词形式,且take away与其逻辑主语the boy为被动关系,故填动名词的被动形式作宾语。
66.a a troop of ...“一队……”。
69.there there is no doubt that ...“毫无疑问……”。

Dear_editor,
I_am_Wang_Ping,_a_Senior_One_student_from_the_Affiliated_High_School_of_Fujian_Normal_University. Nowadays, many cultural relics have already been destroyed and hundreds of others are facing the danger of disappearing. So how to protect them has been our task of top priority.
Cultural relics represent historic cultures. They offer us a great opportunity to learn about what happened in the past and they are the roots of a city or a place. They have survived for a long time and they are usually very rare and valuable.
I think the government and schools should teach people more about the protection of cultural relics and the people should mind their behaviour when travelling. Firstly, we should pay more attention to the environment pollution. It's the first step we should take to protect our cultural relics. Secondly, we should enforce our awareness of protecting cultural relics, to teach people publicly about how to do this. Thirdly, we should do something useful for the course of protecting cultural relics. As far as I know, every city is trying to protect its cultural relics. The government makes policies to regulate people's behaviour at the relics and call for people to take action to save the cultural relics. Some people make outstanding contributions to the work. With their efforts, more and more people become concerned about protecting cultural relics.
Yours_sincerely,
Wang_Ping??
