Best Trucks for 2022 and 2023
2022 Rivian R1T
The 2022 Rivian R1T charges onto the market as the first mainstream electric pickup, and it makes a strong impression. The R1T is equal parts workhorse and adventure vehicle, though its electrified (通电的) powertrain
needs to be further enhanced. Still, it’s the first of many electric pickups to come.
2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
The electrification of America’s best-selling pickup truck is a tall order, but it’s a job that the Ford F-150
Lightning has pulled of T wonderfully. The Lightning is powerful, efficient and capable. Apart from range
limitations when towing (拖车), the F-150 Lightning is every bit the workhorse that full-size pickup truck buyers
have come to expect.
2022 Jeep Gladiato
The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is an honest-to-goodness pick truck. It’s skilled at towing and pulling, it’s
exceptionally capable off road, and its inner part is roomy and built to last. The trade- off is that the Gladiator isn’t
as comfortable, quiet or well-equipped as others.
2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup
The all-new 2023 GMC Hummer EV is designed to offer truck buyers a chance to replace their gas-powered
pickups with battery-powered ones, and it’s a role that the Hummer EV should perform convincingly. It rides,
handles, and speeds up better than just about any traditional full-size pickup on the market. However, that
capability doesn’t come cheap, but overall, the new Hummer gets a lot of public attention in the small but growing
electric truck market.
1 .Which of the following may perform best in the wild
A .2022 Rivian R1T.
B .2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.
C .2022 Jeep Gladiator.
D .2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup.
2 .What might the Hummer EV impress buyers most
A .Its power system.
B .Its traditional role.
C .Its future market.
D .Its driving experience.
3 .What do the four kinds of trucks have in common
A .They are electric pickups.
B .They are expensive.
C .They have large inner space.
D .They have disadvantages.

I have lived in rural America for nine years, first in Michigan, where I got my PhD; then in central Illinois and now in Indiana, where I am a professor. In a place where most people have lived the whole of their lives, I feel like
a stranger. There are few things I enjoy more than complaining about my geographic isolation. I’m a vegetarian, so
there’s nowhere to go for a nice dinner that isn’t 50 miles away. I’m black, so there’s nowhere to get my hair done
that doesn’t involve another 50-mile drive. And the closest major airport is two hours away.
I recite these gripes to my friends. We all have grand ideas about what life would be like if only we did that, or
lived there. And there’s this; I really don’t intend to change most of the things I complain about. Griping is
seductive on those days when happiness requires too much energy. But it also makes me lose sight of the fact that I
was born and grew up in Nebraska and have lived most of my life in one of the plains states. When I go to the
coasts, I am struck by how unappealing big-city living can be.
While I may not love where I live, there are plenty of people who are proud to call this place home. At a party with colleagues, I was going on about everything I couldn’t stand in our town when I noticed that they were silent
and shifting uncomfortably. That moment forced a change in plaining may offer relief, but so does
acceptance. There is no perfect life. By focusing on gripes, I risk missing out on precious moments of appreciation.
When I get home, I stand on my balcony, look into the night sky and see the stars. I know that I have absolutely
nothing to complain about.
4 .What causes the author’s loneliness
A .Dietary habits. B .Racial prejudice.
C .Educational differences. D .Identity confusion.
5 .What does the underlined word “seductive” mean in paragraph 3
A .Attractive. B .Temporary. C .Violent. D .Flexible.
6 .How might the author feel about himself when the atmosphere changed at a party
A .Humbled. B .Angry. C .Touched. D .Calm.
7 .What does the author realize in the end
A .Every day is beautiful. B .When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
C .Human must value lives themselves. D .Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish.

Earliest Record
The earliest written evidence of a soccer-like game comes from China. During the second and third centuries B .C ., Chinese soldiers took part in an activity that involved kicking a ball into a small net. Historians think the
game was a skill-building exercise for the soldiers.
Years of Development
In ancient Greece and Rome, teams of up to 27 players played a soccer-type game. In Britain hundreds of
years later, during the thirteenth century A.D ., whole villages played against each other. With hundreds of people
playing, these games were both long and rough. Kicking, punching, and biting were common and allowed.
In 1331, English King Edward II passed a law in an attempt to put a stop to the popular but violent game. The king of Scotland spoke against the game a hundred years later. Queen Elizabeth I, during the late 1500s,passed a law that called for a week of jail for anyone caught playing “football”, or soccer, as we call it. But the game could
not be stopped.
The Modern Game Emerges
Two hundred and fifty years later, people in Britain were still playing a game we would recognize as soccer. A
well-known English college Eton developed a set of rules in 1815. A number of other colleges soon agreed to use
the same rules, and those schools played against each other. Finally, 50 years later, a formal association was formed to oversee the playing of the game and its rules. In 1869, a rule against handling the ball with the hands transformed
the game into the sport of soccer that is wildly popular all around the world.
21 .What do historians think that soccer might have started out as
A .A leisure activity. B .A political issue.
C .A skill-building activity. D .A military strategy.
22 .According to the text, which emperor was not against soccer
A .English King Edward III. B .The king of Scotland.
C .Queen Elizabeth I. D .The Roman Emperor.
23 .What was the author’s purpose for writing this article
A .To share and reflect on playing soccer. B .To advocate the exercise of soccer.
C .To introduce the history of soccer. D .To suggest new ways of playing soccer.

Four Most Incredible Stadiums in North America
Estadio Azteca
Maybe it’s not the nicest , but it is a must-visit stadium(体育馆)in Mexico. Lying in the suburbs of Santa
Ursula in Mexico City, it is the stadium that hosts the national soccer game in Mexico. When the 1970 World Cup was there, it hosted 10 matches, including the semi-final, and the final between Brazil and Italy. Estadio Azteca is
the largest stadium in Mexico, with a capacity (容量)of 87,523 .
Olympic Stadium
Given that Canada doesn’t have that many professional sports teams (at least not with the same popularity of US teams), stadiums north of the border are generally smaller and don’t quite get the same investment(投资)that
stadiums south of the border do. The stadium was used for the Montreal Expos, and now is carefully used for
soccer games. In fact, it’s set to host some World Cup games in 2026, but anybody who’s been inside can tell you
it’s not a stadium fit to host such a big event.
Madison Square Garden
Madison Square Garden is one of the best stadiums in North America, and not just for sports, but for concerts
and other events as well. If you are traveling into New York City by train, you will see the stadium right as you
enter the city, above the train station. Before you get to your seats, the outskirts of the stadium actually look like a
high-end hotel. It won’t disappoint(使失望)you.
Michigan Stadium
Would you be surprised to know that the second largest stadium in the world is a college football stadium
That’s right. Michigan Stadium, home of the University of Michigan Wolverines, is the largest stadium in the
United States and the second-largest stadium in the world. It has a capacity of 107,601.When you see Michigan
Stadium, you know you’re talking about college football.
21 .What do Estadio Azteca and Olympic Stadium have in common
A .They were built at the same time.
B .They both hosted World Cup games.
C .They don’t have modern technology.
D .They both can be used to host soccer games.
22 .What can we learn about Madison Square Garden
A .It used to be a hotel.
B .It can also serve as a theater.
C .It is the best stadium in North America.
D .It will host some World Cup games in the future.
23 .Which is the largest stadium in the US
A .Estadio Azteca.
B .Olympic Stadium.
C .Michigan Stadium.
D .Madison Square Garden.

To personal trainer Sammy Callari, 13-year-old Parker Seward is more than a client. He’s his “little brother” . Over the past year, the pair have bonded. They play basketball together, share meals and dance to hip-hop like no
one’s watching.
The trainer was asked to work with the 13-year-old boy, who has Down syndrome, because his coworker who dealt with the boy was out of town last spring. Callari had never worked with someone with a disability before. He
was anxious the first day he met Parker. But Parker’s big smile and cheery introduction immediately put him at
ease. He reminded Callari of himself when he was a teenager. Like Parker, Callari has also faced his fair share of
challenges over the years.
As a high schooler, Callari described himself as being the weak kid. When it came to sports, he was always
overlooked. His dream of playing baseball in college quickly faded away. When he went to college, Callari turned to a new sport. His younger brother trained him to become a boxer. Callari participated in five matches. Out of four of those fights he was the underdog, and he won three times. “I know how it feels,” Callari said. “Society tells you
that you can’t do this, you can’t do that.” When it comes to Parker, Callari refuses to accept the word “can’t” .
The friends meet twice a week to train. They bike, box, run and work on their core with push-ups. Parker has a short attention span, so it’s Callari’s job to keep him focused. “If Parker can do it, if he’s having fun, even with his
frustration, then people will ask, “Why can’t I do that ” Callari said. “That’s the whole task right now.”
Callari recalls Parker’s mom once thanking him for taking a “chance” on her son. Callari told her he never
viewed it that way. Parker may be the student, but Callari says he’s also the one who’s learning.

Huron, Ohio, was where I’d spent my twenties, working on a steamer out on the Great Lakes. My wife and I started our family there, and later we came back to Huron to retire. Then, during the final stage of construction on our new home, I had difficulty breathing. The doctor determined I needed open-heart surgery. I was admitted to a
hospital in Sandusky.
The night before my surgery, I was so worried that I couldn’t sleep. I lay in my hospital bed praying and
thinking about the events in my life that had led me to this point. I remembered how I had fallen in love with Huron
and its people. I remembered a Christmas many years ago …
The shipping season had been good to me, so that winter I decided to buy some Christmas gifts and help out a
family in town. “I know a family that would appreciate a visit from Santa Claus,” the owner of the store said. “A
woman with six children just lost her husband.”
The store owner helped me wrap some presents and gave me the family’s address. That evening I delivered the
packages. A little girl with brown eyes and the sweetest smile answered the door. “Santa asked me to bring these
gifts to you and your family,” I said.
The girl’s eyes lit up even more. “Tell Santa ‘thank you’ from Dorothy,” she said. I never saw her or her
family again, but all in town helped give Huron a permanent place in my heart. A heart now needed fixing badly.
A nurse came in to check on me. “Where are you from ” the nurse asked. “I’m from Huron,” I told her
proudly.
She smiled. “I grew up there,” she said. “I loved it, even though life wasn’t easy. You see, I lost my father
when I was just a child.”
I looked into her brown eyes and knew I’d seen them before. “Do you recall a sailor bringing presents to your
door one Christmas ”
She stared. “That was you!”
“Yes, Dorothy,” I said, suddenly confident about my surgery. “That was me.”

B .The reward of a kind action years ago.
C .The encouragement of the young nurse.
D .The high quality service of the hospital.
7 .What is the best title of the text
A .An Unforgettable Open-heart Surgery
B .A Young Girl Finds Her Way Back Home
C .Huron Holds A Special Place in My Heart
D .A Precious Gift I Received Before Surgery

Whatever your resolutions are, make sure they are still going strong. Here are some famous persons’
resolutions.
Gabby Logan, TV presenter
Resolution: to drink more water
I know I should drink two litres of water a day, but it’s easy to forget, especially when it's cold out. I’m going to fill my bottle and leave it in the fridge overnight so I won’t leave home without it and check in each night to see
if I’ve drunk enough.
Sarah Stirk, TV presenter
Resolution: to meditate (冥想) more

Desirèe Henry, sprinter (短跑运动员)
Resolution: to get quality rest
As I train so hard, I need to ensure I also get enough rest. I’ve set an 8:30 pm reminder on my phone to slow
down. Sometimes I can move really slowly, so I give myself plenty of time. At 10 pm, I’ll put my phone on
airplane mode so I can't be disturbed.
Alex Davies, bodybuilder
Resolution: to schedule my time efficiently
I’ve taken a break from my job as an engineer to become a professional bodybuilder and train as a drone (无人 机) pilot. I’ve never been busier! But without that 9-to-5 structure, I need to be focused. My top trick will be nightly

Every delicious steak you have ever enjoyed eating started with a good cut of meat. However, picking that perfect cut can be challenging—supermarkets are flooded with options, and it is not as straightforward as simply
choosing the one with the highest price tag. Follow this guide for some advice.
Tenderloin(US), Fillet(UK),Eye Fillet(AUS/NZ)
A classic cut, the tenderloin comes from the strip of muscle tucked against the backbone of the animal. As this
muscle does not do much work, this is the tenderest cut of beef—which also makes it the most expensive, and
arguably the most desirable. We say “arguably” because, while the tenderloin is supremely lean and a favorite of those who love their steak to melt in their mouth, it can also be tasteless. Filet mignon, widely referred to as the
creme de la creme (精华) of all steak cuts, is cut from the very tip of the tenderloin.
Ribeye(US/ UK), Scotch fillet(AUS/NZ)
This cut, from the rib section of the animal, comes with an abundance of rich marbling. The ribeye won’t give you that same “melt-in-your-mouth” feeling, but it is still one of the tenderest cuts available. Differently, the ribeye
is cooked with the bone in, while the Scotch fillet is not.
Strip(US), Sirloin(UK), Porterhouse(AUS/NZ)
Coming from the hindquarter of the animal, the strip is not quite as tender as the tenderloin, or loaded with
quite as much flavor as the ribeye, but for many steak lovers, it is just right. The best part is that because this
all-rounder has a bit more chew and a bit less marbling than those cuts, it tends to be less expensive.
T-bone
Can’t decide between the tenderloin and the strip Why not both The T-bone is cut with strip on one side of a bone, and tenderloin on the other. With two very different textures (口感) and flavors, the T-bone gets the best of both worlds, but it can also be more difficult to cook. The meat closer to the bone is slower to cook than the rest of
the steak.
1 .What makes the tenderloin the most expensive part among the steak
A .Different textures. B .Much flavor.
C .Rich marbling. D .The tenderest cut.
2 .What can we learn about the steaks from the passage
A .It’s not a piece of cake to pick a perfect cut.
B .All things considered, Ribeye is the best.
C .A good cut only means the most expensive one.
D .It usually takes little time to cook T-bone.
3 .Which of the following is not mentioned in the article concerning steak
A .Price. B .Packaging. C .Cooking method. D .Flavor.

In a place where most people have lived the whole of their lives, I feel like a stranger. There are few things I enjoy more than complaining about my geographic isolation. I’m a vegetarian, so there’s nowhere to go for a nice dinner that isn’t 50 miles away.
At a party
with colleagues, I was going on about everything I couldn’t stand in our town when I noticed that they were silent
and shifting uncomfortably.

Four Most Incredible Stadiums in North America
Estadio Azteca
Maybe it’s not the nicest , but it is a must-visit stadium(体育馆)in Mexico. Lying in the suburbs of Santa Ursula in Mexico City, it is the stadium that hosts the national soccer game in Mexico.

24 .Why was Callari asked to train Parker
A .They shared the same interests. B .Parker’s parents had faith in Callari.
C .Callari took place of his absent colleague. D .Callari was an expert in Down syndrome.
25 .What can we learn about Callari when he was in high school
A .He was good at sports. B .He was out of condition.
C .He was looked down upon by everyone. D .He was influenced deeply by his brother.

4 .What was the author worried about the night before his surgery
A .Huron and its people. B .The uncompleted house.
C .His rough life experience. D .His poor physical condition.
5 .How did Dorothy respond to the author’s question
A .She kept silent with smile. B .She totally ignored it.
C .She answered it amazedly. D .She hesitated about it.
6 .What brought the author confidence in the surgery
A .The love of people in the town Huron.
B .The reward of a kind action years ago.
C .The encouragement of the young nurse.
D .The high quality service of the hospital.
7 .What is the best title of the text

Whatever your resolutions are, make sure they are still going strong. Here are some famous persons’
resolutions.
Gabby Logan, TV presenter
Resolution: to drink more water
I know I should drink two litres of water a day, but it’s easy to forget, especially when it's cold out. I’m going to fill my bottle and leave it in the fridge overnight so I won’t leave home without it and check in each night to see
if I’ve drunk enough.
Sarah Stirk, TV presenter
Resolution: to meditate (冥想) more
With a newborn baby, I'll need to stay really calm. Meditation will help me deal with those stresses, so I'll
work on that, as well as deep breathing and getting out in nature regularly. With a positive attitude, I use diaries to
help me keep my resolution.
My top trick will be nightly
diaries so I can write down my short-term goals and prepare a to-do list for the next day.
