When most people think of drones (无人机), they think of technology and fun. Safe to say, few people would think about farming. However, a group of students from York College of Pennsylvania have been building a drone
that will not only help local farmers but the environment, as well.
Samantha Gotwalt and Blayde Reich, two senior Mechanical Engineering majors at York College in the
group, both found the work to be quite fascinating. According to Samantha, the idea came from a York College
professor, who has worked with drones, and wanted to get students involved with a project beneficial to the
community. “We really want to help farming and agriculture. It’s super-important to America and our economy,”
Blayde says. “We want to help the smaller farmers, and one of the perks is not having to spend their money on
fertilizer and pesticides (杀虫剂).”
The idea is to design and build a drone that will take video imagery of the fields to determine what is needed
to produce the best crop, while saving money and sparing the environment by reducing pollutants in the water
runoff. Ideally, that data gained will help the farmers better determine what chemicals they need - and what they
don’t.
However, finding the right equipment for the project was a challenge, starting with what drone the team would
design for this particular usage. Samantha says she researched durability and control of drones to help make the
proper determination.
“We are flying over the field and we want to have enough efficiency and go relatively slow enough that our
pictures turn out well - and fly low enough that it is not using up all of its power,” she says. “The fields are a couple
hundred acres(英亩), so you need your drone to be able to fly the length of that field.”
Blayde says the team continues to learn a great deal of information that will help the farmers and the
environment.
4 .What does the underlined word “perks” in paragraph 2 refer to
A .Challenges. B .Features. C .Benefits. D .Solutions.
5 .What particular usage is the drone designed for
A .Spreading proper quantities of pesticides.

D .Measuring the areas of the fields.
6 .What technical issue of the drone shall be tackled
A .Its camera capacity. B .Its data collection ability.
C .Its durability and control. D .Its material and efficiency.
7 .What can best describe the students
A .Disciplined and realistic. B .Experienced and reliable.
C .Humble and reserved. D .Responsible and creative.

The older I get, the more I understand how my teachers have transformed my life.
On a recent Sunday afternoon, I went to see Mr. C at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills. His love of life has not
dimmed despite the fact that his legs no longer work like they used to. He visited some of his former students while he was in town. At Beverly Hills High School, Mr. C taught ancient history, coached football and golf, and risked his life teaching driver’s training on Saturday mornings from 1964 to 1988. The gray and hobbled students lined up
one after another to thank their favorite teacher. One called him a rock star. Another was grateful for helping him
when he couldn’t say so. It was a beautiful tribute, especially in these times of catastrophic teacher shortages.
Spending that Sunday in the park with Mr. C was nothing short of magic. It was a reminder of all that is
promising and possible in public education, including a teacher whose rare emotional honesty could be appreciated and honored decades later. It also brought to mind Maya Angelou’s saying “People will forget what you said and
did, but never forget how you make them feel.” He made me and others in the park feel heard and seen.
Mr. C changed my perception of myself. Rather than seeing myself as a loser cheerleader who couldn’t
compete with the smart kids, I realized how much I loved learning. His history class was so interesting. In his
classes about the Persians, Greeks, and Romans, extra credits can be earned for creativity. During earthquake drills,
we counted on Mr. C to scream his head off in mock terror.
It should come as little surprise that I’d value the role of teachers in my life. Both of my parents taught; so did my siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. I, too, have become a teacher and I try to follow in Mr. C’s footsteps. Some
days, I fantasize what it would be like to go on a teacher tour, reaching out to my mentors to express my deep
gratitude for all they’ve given me. Seeing Mr. C sparked that fantasy again. When I finally worked up my courage to thank him, knowing a floodgate of tears would open, he said to me with his typical modesty: “You were doing
me more good than I was doing you.”
4 .What does the underlined word “tribute” mean in Paragraph 2
A .enthusiasm B .admiration C .devotion D .commitment
5 .Why does the author mention Maya Angelou’s saying
A .To make a suggestion.
B .To introduce a celebrity.
C .To show respect to an educator.
D .To interpret the influence of education.

A .Enjoyable. B .Intolerant. C .Incompetent. D .Patient.
7 .Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A .A reunion. B .A rock star. C .A surprise. D .A great teacher.

Christian Liden decided that he would not pick out a ring from a jeweler’s like most other people. He hatched an ambitious plan to create a personalized ring for his future wife, Desirae Clovis. Therefore, he made up his mind
to go into the wild to find his own materials: the diamond, the gold and the accompanying jewels.
So, in May 2022, Liden told Clovis that he and Josh Tucker, his best friend, were heading out on a camp to
Yellowstone. Instead, he and Tucker made for Crater of Diamonds State Park, Arkansas, which is set on a volcanic crater. The park is one of the few places in the world where the public is welcome to search for real diamonds and
can keep them for free. Since its opening, only 1 in10,000 park visitors is lucky enough to find a diamond that
weighs a carat or more. Still, he was up for the challenge.
On their way, Liden and Tucker stopped in Helena, Montana, to mine for accompanying jewels to add to the
diamond they hoped to score. In Arkansas, the pair paid $10 each to get into the park and spent almost three days
searching through the volcanic dirt.
On the third morning, Liden suddenly spotted something reflecting light in the sands. “I was so excited that I
started shaking.” he said, “It was oily and shiny, and we both just knew it was a Diamond.”
It was confirmed that Liden had found a 2.2-carat yellow diamond. Similarly-sized diamonds go for $2,500 to
$20,000 per carat, depending on quality, color and cut. But the value wasn’t what was important to Liden.
When he pulled out the diamond and got on his knee upon his return, Clovis was amazed. “I knew that he was
going to propose someday, she said, “but I certainly didn’t expect this.”

A .It was the only place that charged jewel hunters nothing
B .They were likely to find more than just natural diamonds
C .The majority of park visitors had got their ideal diamonds
D .The public was allowed to keep any diamond found there.
6 .Why was Liden excited about his findings
A .He had got the largest diamond in the park’shistory.
B .The value of the diamond was above his expectations.

Before my daughter, Evelyn, was born, I eagerly expected her first year of life. I imagined celebrating every
milestone—bonding with her as a newborn, seeing her smile for the first time, hearing her say her first word. I
didn’t think of feeding tubes, long hospital stays or an organ transplant(移植). For Evelyn, the first year included all
and more.
Evelyn came into this world at just 34 weeks, weighing less than 3 pounds. Genetic testing revealed she had
Alagille syndrome, a genetic disorder that can damage the liver, heart and other organs. Soon, we received the news that baby Evelyn needed a liver transplant. Our family moved nearer to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh so
that we were closer if a liver was available for Evelyn.
When Evelyn was added to the organ donation wait list, it was under the liver allocation(分配) policy in place at that time, which was map-based. This policy lacks any special consideration for transplant candidates. We were
told it would likely take three months. Just then, a new policy for liver allocation was tried out. Under the new
system, the sickest child patients get first priority. The new policy was only in effect for a little over a week. But in
that period, Evelyn received her liver transplant. Had it been just one week earlier or later, we would not have
received the call.
As Evelyn recovers from her transplant, we are grateful for the change. I am also sad, because the new policy
was short-lived. That means another mom like me might not receive that phone call with good news.
Other children should have the same opportunity as Evelyn to live healthy, happy lives. When it comes to liver
transplant policy, we can and must do better for children.
4 .What probably happened to Evelyn shortly after she was born
A .She failed to give a smile. B .She had psychological problems.
C .She had a serious liver failure. D .She suffered from a heart attack.
5 .Why did the author’s family move nearer to the hospital
A .To save time. B .To save money.
C .To see a doctor regularly. D .To get first priority.
6 .What does the author mean by the underlined sentence
A .Her daughter is fortunate. B .They waited too long.
C .The effect of the new policy was uncertain. D .Evelyn is healthy now.
7 .What does the author want to express in the last paragraph
A .We must guarantee kids have healthy livers.
B .The sickest kids should get liver transplants first.
C .Children are the most important.
D .Kids should have chances of a liver transplant.

the Honolulu City Lights, a month-long Christmas display at Honolulu’s city hall. Keep in mind that winter is the island’s high season, so make your reservations early and expect to share the sand with lots of other sun-seeking
travelers.
Sydney
Sydney’s summer begins in December and lasts through February, making this a popular destination for
tourists escaping the Northern Hemisphere’s chilly winter weather. Average daytime temperatures hover between the mid-70s and low 80s. This time of year also features a packed events calendar, with can’t-miss sporting events and celebrations like the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix and Sydney’s famed New Year’s Eve fireworks display.
Remember to book your tickets early, as this can be a pricey and popular time to visit Australia.
Galápagos Islands
Winter in the Galápagos Islands is marked by warm weather and ample opportunities to view wildlife, snorkel
and scuba dive. Although this is technically the wet season, the sun shines most days and rain showers are brief.
Plan on visiting in December to see newly hatched giant tortoises and male marine lizards displaying vivid colors.
For a bit more action, arrive in February to celebrate Carnival on Santa Cruz Island. To read more, click here.

Daniel Brush, an astonishing worker in gold, jewels and steel died on November 2022, aged 75. Students from a jewellery school once came to Brush’s studio, a loft in mid-Manhattan, awed to be meeting a figure who, to them,
was a worker of miracles.
For 45 years in that loft, he had pursued his calling. His wife Olivia was the only company. He produced
hundreds of objects of all sorts, most of them exquisite and many astonishingly small. Rather than use electricity, he laboured alone in a forest of antique machines and when tools frustrated him he made his own, displaying them
in cupboards as art in themselves.
Above all else, he worked in gold. His obsession took fire when at 13 he saw an Etruscan gold bowl in the
Victoria and Albert Museum. The ancient technique of applying gold beads as fine as sand-grains to a curved gold
surface without solder (焊接), was stunning, but so was the lightness of spirit.
He resolved then that he would make such a bowl, and gold became the study of his life. Simply to watch it
melt, turn to red-hot and white-hot, then glow purple, was magical. To hold pure gold grain and let it move slowly
through his fingers restored his calm of spirit. His chief motivation, he said, was to understand the material and,
through that, himself. He wondered why his heart had beaten so fast in the museum that day. Gold in particular had
a message for him. His contact with this glorious metal might focus all his attention and help him to hear it.
He developed delicate craftsmanship, with each object virtually a museum piece. For Daniel Brush, he loved
the idea that one might take a piece made by Brush out of a pocket, let its beauty pass from mind to mind, and
smile. That too was what its maker was after.
24 .What can we learn about Daniel Brush
A .Students visited him regularly.
B .He began to live in his loft in 1975.
C .He tended to use ancient crafts to produce objects.
D .Most objects he produced were of a surprisingly small size.
25 .What is the main reason for his lifelong study of gold
A .He wanted to learn more about both gold and himself.
B .He wondered why his heart had beat fast in the museum.
C .His calm was restored when gold grain moved through fingers.
D .Gold had a particular message for him and he was eager to hear it.
26 .Which of the following can best describe Daniel Brush
A .Stubborn. B .Wealthy. C .Dedicated. D .Lonely.
27 .What does the author try to emphasize in the last paragraph
A .Brush’s valuable works. B .The admirers Brush expected.
C .Brush’s desire for fame. D .The artistic ideal Brush pursued.阅读理解(应用文,记叙文)-2024年高三英语名校联考试题汇编

B .Helping to determine the chemicals needed.
C .Assisting to monitor the state of crops.
D .Measuring the areas of the fields.
6 .What technical issue of the drone shall be tackled
A .Its camera capacity. B .Its data collection ability.
C .Its durability and control. D .Its material and efficiency.

3.【广东省六校 2023 年高三联考】
The older I get, the more I understand how my teachers have transformed my life.
On a recent Sunday afternoon, I went to see Mr. C at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills. His love of life has not
dimmed despite the fact that his legs no longer work like they used to. He visited some of his former students while
he was in town. At Beverly Hills High School, Mr. C taught ancient history, coached football and golf, and risked
his life teaching driver’s training on Saturday mornings from 1964 to 1988.

We believe that educating the “whole student” opens the door to the “whole world”. Our rich and dynamic
co-curricular program enables each student to experience an exceptional array of activities, carefully designed to
provide just the right level of challenge, engagement and fun. Our exceptional co-curricular program is delivered by
dedicated teachers and staff members or by experts from the wider community. As a result, each student is
encouraged to pursue his or her passions and talents. Co-curriculars also provide a valuable opportunity for our students to develop flexibility and perseverance by challenging them to step outside their comfort zone and try

in activities that introduce them to the wonders of the natural world and that develop their motor skills.
Junior School (Grades 1~5): Discovery

on participation and fun as well as on skill development.
Middle School (Grades 6~8): Exploration
The Middle Years are the perfect time for students to explore a wide variety of co-curricular activities. At a
stage when many young people experience a lack of self-confidence, co-curriculars in our middle school are
designed to challenge, to engage and to celebrate the unique qualities that each student brings to the school
community.
Senior School (Grades 9~12): Focus

When Roosevelt was a kid, his doctors claimed that he was too weak to live a normal life like most children of
his age. They strongly recommended him to avoid participation in any physical activities, fearing that it could
worsen his health condition and potentially lead to his death. Their opinions implied that he would face up to a life full of all kinds of limitations. Instead of permitting their limiting beliefs about what he could do and achieve, he
chose to live a meaningful life.
Despite his doctors’ strong suggestions that he remain inactive, he didn’t want to be a carefree observer of the
world as it passed him by. He was determined to force himself to be active. Roosevelt had daily adventures in the
woods as a boy.
He continued to play sports when he got to college. In fact, he didn’t just play, but he excelled in both boxing
and rowing, both of which require astonishing levels of strength and endurance. When Roosevelt graduated from
college, his doctors were still not completely sure about his health condition. They still believed that he would be
putting himself in serious danger, because his heart problems had not improved. They firmly believed that it would
be best to find a desk job for him after completing a college degree. Once again, Roosevelt decided to challenge
himself to his physical limits by living an extremely energetic adult life. In about every field he took part, he would
aim to push his physical limits. Impressively, he was excellent as an explorer, a hunter, an author, a soldier and a
politician.
Eventually, Roosevelt went beyond the mistaken limitation upon him and lived an amazing life

On their way, Liden and Tucker stopped in Helena, Montana, to mine for accompanying jewels to add to the diamond they hoped to score.
4 .What was Christian Liden’s ambitious plan
A .He intended his ring to consist of various jewels.
B .He would get a personalized ring from a jeweler’s
C .He decided to make a ring together with his future wife.
D .He planned to hunt for a natural diamond to create a ring.
5 .Why did Liden and Tucker choose Crater of Diamond State Park
A .It was the only place that charged jewel hunters nothing
B .They were likely to find more than just natural diamonds
C .The majority of park visitors had got their ideal diamonds
D .The public was allowed to keep any diamond found there.
6 .Why was Liden excited about his findings
A .He had got the largest diamond in the park’shistory.
B .The value of the diamond was above his expectations.
C .He was lucky to acquire the diamond for his dream ring.
D .The quality and color of his diamond ranked among the best.
7 .What can we learn from the story
A .True love stories never have endings. B .Love shows more in action than in words.
C .Absence makes two hearts grow fonder. D .A life lived in love will never be boring.

9.【辽宁省东北育才学校五校 2023 年高三联考试题】

Some travelers are itching to escape the season’s bitter weather. If you want to find the locale that best suits
your winter vacation, use these ideas to start planning your getaway.
Honolulu - Oahu
As temperatures begin to drop in other parts of the world, Hawaii’s capital city remains comfortable thanks to
average highs in the low to 80 degrees. Visit Chinatown for festive Chinese New Year celebrations, or marvel at
the Honolulu City Lights, a month-long Christmas display at Honolulu’s city hall.

Students from
a jewellery school once came to Brush’s studio, a loft in mid-Manhattan, awed to be meeting a figure who, to them,
was a worker of miracles.
D .The artistic ideal Brush pursued.
【答案】24 .C 25 .A 26 .C 27 .D
