When a group of college students put their sorrows into action, they never imagined the project would fuel a
nationwide movement to help deal with hunger and control on food waste.
But that’s exactly what the Farmlink Project has done since 2020, bringing together hundreds of young volunteers to rescue nearly 77 million pounds of excess food and deliver it to those in need. The organization’s
efforts help farmers, the environment, and people struggling to feed their families all at once.
“In the United States, 40 million Americans don’t have enough food to eat. They don’t know where their next meal is going to come from,” said Aidan Reilly, who co-founded Farmlink. “Meanwhile, in the United States,
we’re throwing out over 100 billion pounds of food every year.”
Back in 2020, Reilly and his childhood friend James Kanoff were reading and watching news about food shortages, and they learned that area farms were forced to destroy excess produce that they couldn’t sell, especially with restaurants, schools and hotels closed. Reilly, Kanoff and a core group of friends worked together over Zoom, texted and e-mailed to contact farms coast to coast. “We didn’t really set out to start a nonprofit,” Reilly said. “We
just thought, ‘There’re so many people suffering, if we can figure out one way to help, then that’ll be great.”
In California, they found a farmer who had 13, 000 eggs that could be donated, and Reilly offered to do the pickup and delivery himself. That was the first of many more deliveries. With “we’ll come to you” as their catchphrase ( 标 语 ), the group rented U-Haul trucks and attempted to do all the food pickup and deliveries
themselves.
“We had a lot of small problems in the beginning,” Reilly said. “We broke axles ( 车轴), loaded in 40, 000 pounds of potatoes in a wrong way and had to try to drag them out by using another truck and a rope. But we made
it work.”
“Farmlink has worked with more than 100 farms and 300 communities in the US, rescuing and moving
enough food to distribute more than 64 million meals,” Reilly said.

My husband Robert and I had volunteered to help build an irrigation (灌溉) system for bananas in Zambia. The Heart of Africa Mission is run by local Zambians, with a focus on community development. We were there to share our agricultural (农业的) experience and knowledge with the African farmers.
We left snow-covered Alberta, Canada in January. We spent the next four weeks working side by side with the local Zambians in a banana plantation ( 种植 园). The banana plantation would help make the Heart of Africa Mission self-supporting. It would also teach banana farming to the students there. Students would go on to teach others. It has done that and more. Through the jobs created, several families now have food, education for their children, and enough housing. The plantation is producing well and is a source of great pride for all who work
there.
My husband worked hard at building the irrigation system. But the story he tells most often is of the young man who stopped us on one of our walks somewhere. He pointed to his bike, and laughing widely, told Robert, “Look, look, it still works.” Robert had repaired it for him. A bike in Zambia is like a truck in North America—necessary transportation for people and produce. Robert’s small effort made a big difference in this
man’s life.
“We sure appreciate (感激) your sacrifice (牺牲),” our organizer often says. For us it was never a sacrifice, only an honor to have the chance to work in a place so far from our own, to be able to exchange ideas and thoughts. All this happened while living in a beautiful sunny country in the green of the rainy season, while at home in Alberta, the snow would cover the landscape (风景) for months. No, the volunteer work was never a sacrifice. It
was only an honor.
11 .What can we learn about the author from the first paragraph
A .She likes to take adventures. B .She is probably an expert in agriculture.
C .She started the Heart of Africa Mission. D .She used to live in Africa for a long time.
12 .Which of the following best describes the author’s volunteer job
A .Costly. B .Tiring. C .Challenging. D .Fruitful.
13 .Why did the young man stop the author and her husband
A .To ask for help. B .To express his thanks.
C .To show his cycling skills. D .To tell them about his work.
14 .Why did the author consider the volunteer work an honor
A .It enabled her to work harder. B .It brought her public recognition.
C .It made her appreciate her life more. D .It allowed her to experience different things.

Visiting Ireland Here’s what the locals love to do.
Find legends on a mountain hike
Walking is one of the best ways to get to know Ireland. “I’ve been walking for about 30 years, but I’m still trotting off to find new routes, and all of the walks seem to have stories,” says John G. O’Dwyer, author of 50 Best
Irish Walks.
Feast on Irish flavors at a food truck
“Ireland’s casual food has been elevated,” said food writer Ali Dunworth. These days, food trucks, pop-up stores, and shacks are fun places to taste soulful pub fresh seafood and toasties (toasted sandwiches)with farmhouse
cheese.
Visit a castle by boat
Marnie Corscadden, owner of Ballyseede Castle in Tralee, is attracted by Cloughoughter Castle, in County Cavan. Cloughoughter Castle is a four-story stone tower castle consisting of a single circular tower with high walls and a moat (护城河) surrounding it. Each floor has a curved ceiling, and the staircase winds along the inner walls. Despite being heavily damaged, the castle remains a popular tourist attraction. "Nestled on a small island, this dreamy castle is like something from a fairytale,” she said. “The fact that it’s so remote and can only be accessed
by boat adds to its mystery and appeal.”
Get lost on a bike ride
“In Ireland, there are thousands of miles of quiet country roads where everyone you encounter is more than willing to give directions and point out places to visit,” said Ciaran Cannon, an official in Galway East, who cycled through all 32 counties for charity. A growing network of greenways rebooting derelict railways, such as Royal
Canal and Limerick, are great for taking in the countryside.

An important person who has made a huge impact on my life is Savannah. Savannah is my twin sister and my life would be completely different without her. Everyone always thinks it’s amazing to have a twin and it is but it’s also not. People always beautify having a twin. They say it’s natural to be good friends, which is true, but nobody ever
talks about the negative side of it.
People also say things like “Who’s the smarter twin ” As twins, we are constantly getting compared. In the second grade, she got admitted to a class for advanced students. In 6th grade she was put into advanced math. I
finally got put into advanced math for 8th grade but it still wasn’t enough because by then she was in a class that
was two years ahead and mine was just one. So people called me the dumb twin.
I played soccer from the ages 5-9. I quit when I was 9 because people decided Savannah was better and I didn’t want to hear it anymore. She still plays. We also played softball together when we were 10-11. I quit that too
mainly for the same reason.
One day when I was in 7th grade, Savannah, our friends and I were at top golf for one of their birthdays. We were almost done playing. My friend Allison said, “Savannah, how does it feel to be losing to the unathletic twin ”
Allison didn’t play any sports either, but since she wasn’t a twin, she wasn’t getting compared to anyone.
I could write a million stories about who’s the prettier twin Who’s the uglier twin Who’s the funnier twin It never really ends. Even though we get compared, I still love Savannah and she has made such a huge impact on my
life.
As I’ve gotten older, it has less of an effect on me when people compare us. I have realized that there is always going to be someone out there comparing us and there is nothing I can do about it. I am growing into my own
person.

I left university with a good degree in English Literature, but no sense of what I wanted to do. Over the next six years, I was treading water(停滞不前), just trying to earn an income. I tried journalism, but I didn’t think I was any good, then finance, which I hated. Finally, I got a job as a rights assistant at a famous publisher. I loved
working with books, although the job that I did was dull.
I had enough savings to take a year off work, and I decided to try to satisfy a deep-down wish to write a novel.
Attending a Novel Writing MA course gave me the structure I needed to write my first 55,000 words.
It takes confidence to make a new start—there’s a dark period in-between where you’re neither one thing nor the other. You’re out for dinner and people ask what you do, and you’re too ashamed to say, “Well, I’m writing a novel, but I’m not quite sure if I’m going to get there.” My confidence dived. Believing my novel could not be
published, I put it aside.
Then I met an agent(代理商) who said I should send my novel out to agents. So, I did and, to my surprise, got
some wonderful feedback. I felt a little hope that I might actually become a published writer and, after signing with
an agent, I finished the second half of the novel.
The next problem was finding a publisher. After two-and-a-half years of no income, just waiting and
wondering, a publisher offered me a book deal—that publisher turned out to be the one I once worked for.
It feels like an unbelievable stroke of luck—of fate, really. When you set out to do something different, there’s no end in sight, so to find myself in a position where I now have my own name on a contract( 合 同) of the
publisher—to be a published writer—is unbelievably rewarding.
25 .Why did the author decide to write a novel
A .Because she hated her previous jobs.
B .Because her parents and friends had encouraged her to do so.
C .Because she wanted to pursue her own dream of writing a novel.
D .Because she graduated from university with a good degree in English Literature.
26 .What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 mean
A .She became less stubborn.
B .She became more stubborn.
C .She suddenly lost confidence.
D .She gradually gained confidence.
27 .Who agreed to publish the author’s first novel
A .An agent who she signed with.
B .A rights assistant she once worked with.
C .An agent who advised her to send her novel out to agents.
D .A publisher who she once worked for as a rights assistant.
28 .Which of the following words can best describe the author’s experience as a writer
A .Tough but rewarding. B .Interesting and smooth.
C .Difficult but thrilling. D .Complicated and fruitless.

It was a typical summer day in my small town, with the sun shining and the sky clear. I was sitting on my porch, enjoying the peaceful view of the rolling hills and the calm lake, when suddenly a strong wind blew in from
the west. The peaceful sky turned dark as a storm approached.
I went inside, grabbing my raincoat and heading to the barn to secure the animals. The cows were nervous, sensing the approaching storm. I quickly tied them up and ran back to the house, just as the rain started to pour down. The wind was howling and the rain was pounding against the windows. Lightning and thunder followed, making the atmosphere even more electric. I sat by the window, watching the raging storm and praying that
everything would be okay.
After what seemed like hours, but was only a few minutes, the storm passed. The clouds moved away, revealing a bright and sunny sky. I walked outside, taking in the fresh air and surveying the damage. The trees were bent over and some branches had been blown off. Our vegetable garden was flooded, but other than that, everything
seemed to be fine. I breathed a sigh of relief as I realized that no serious damage had been done.
That evening, as I sat by the fireplace with a cup of hot coffee, I reflected on the experience. It reminded me that nature can be both powerful and unpredictable, but that we must persevere and adapt to whatever it throws at us. The next morning, as I watched the sun rise over the now-calm landscape, I felt a sense of pride knowing that
my family and I had weathered the storm together.

The books written and published in the 1920s remain on the “best ever” lists. Here are 4 books that everyone
should read.
The Great Gatsby
The themes in the novel reflect the sudden change in the character of America itself, and in some ways it’s among the first major modern novels produced in this country. The novel also makes a new and powerful concept clear at the time: The American Dream, the idea that self-made men and women could make themselves into
anything in this country.
A Farewell to Arms
The story is one of a love affair interrupted and dogged by events beyond the lovers’ control, and a central theme is the pointless struggle of life — that we spend so much energy and time on things that finally don’t matter. Hemingway masterfully combines a realistic description of war with some abstract literary techniques, which is one
reason why this book endures as a classic.
Ulysses
When people make lists of the most difficult novels, Ulysses is almost certainly on them. The one thing almost everyone knows about Ulysses is that it employs “stream of consciousness”, a literary technique that seeks to show the inner monologue of a person. James Joyce wasn’t the first writer to use this technique, but he was the first
writer to attempt it on the scale as he did.
Mrs. Dalloway
It takes place on a single day in the life of the main character, and it employs a dense and tricky stream-of-consciousness technique, roaming (漫游) around to other characters and point of view. Mrs. Dalloway is concerned with using these techniques to make the characters clear and definite. The use of stream of consciousness
is deliberately disorienting in the way it skips through time.
36 .Which book shows us the truth of daily life conflicts
A .Ulysses. B.Mrs. Dalloway.
C .The Great Gatsby. D.A Farewell to Arms.
37 .What do Ulysses and Mrs. Dalloway have in common
A .They share the same literary technique.
B .They show a new and powerful concept.
C .They describe the daily life of the character.
D .They are on the list of the most difficult novels.
38 .Where can the text be found
A .In a biography. B .In a history book.
C .In a travel brochure. D .In a literature magazine.

Some people get more averse to risk as the years go by. Not so Gail MacCallum, who at age 40 quit a secure
job and left the city to explore more possibilities of life.
MacCallum moved quite a bit in childhood and spent her formative years outside Canberra in a farmhouse without electricity, where she enjoyed the freedom of the natural world. In her teens, she and her family moved into
the heart of inner-city Sydney, and she found she adored that too.
In 2015, MacCallum and her then partner had a daughter, Amelia. They wanted to make sure that despite being a city kid, Amelia had plenty of natural encounters so they sought out places to climb trees, watch lizards and spot turtles. But one day MacCallum realised her little girl was more at ease with busy streets than bushland. “When she was about seven, we were visiting a friend whose place had a beautiful lawn. Amelia called out to me and said, ‘I can’t go into the wild!’ We decided we had to let her experience a wider world and two months later we
were in a camper van heading off around Australia.”
MacCallum admits she felt worried. “I thought we’d need to know some basic things but the trip was like a leap in the dark. ” As it happened, the van they’d bought broke down just 90 minutes into the trip. But after repairs they set off again and travelled the country for six months, during which Amelia became an enthusiastic adventurer. “That trip helped me understand that success doesn’t have to be assured,” MacCallum says. “I realised that you can
start something and just work it out as you go along.”
39 .What does the underlined word in paragraph 1 mean
A .Motivated. B .Confident. C .Unwilling. D .Regretful.
40 .What do we know about MacCallum
A .She is a person in favor of stability.
B .She preferred the inner city to the rural area.
C .Her love for nature was rooted in her childhood.
D .She knew much about long-distance travelling.
41 .What can be inferred from paragraph 3
A .Amelia was raised in a casual way.
B .Amelia was a nature enthusiast just like her parents.
C .MacCallum and her partner planned the trip separately.
D .MacCallum expected her daughter to be close to nature.
42 .Which words can best describe their trip
A .Costly but satisfying. B .Eventful but educational.
C .Boring but meaningful. D .Difficult but romantic.

Love hiking but don’t want to have a heavy backpack for days on end We’ve found four great walks around
Australia.
● Three Capes Walk
Where: Tasmania
Length: Three days
The pièce de résistance of a hike in this remote southeast corner of Tasmania has to be a flight over, or cruise( 航 行 ) underneath, Cape Pillar–the tallest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere. Here you’ll find 300-metre-high sea columns rising from the ocean. The equally impressive Cape Raoul – only accessible by hikers
– will also give you a taste of the dramatic, raw beauty to come.
● Great Ocean Walk
Where: Victoria
Length: Three days
The 243-kilometre long Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage – listed area famed for its surf beaches and the Twelve Apostles – limestone(石灰岩) stacks rising out of the Southern Ocean. It takes more than a
week to walk the full length, but this hike ensures you see the best bits over three days.
● Larapinta Trail &Red Center Walk
Where: Northern Territory
Length: Nine days
If you haven’t experienced the beating heart of Australia, this is the way to do it. Walk part of the Larapinta Trail, a 231-kilometre path that follows the rocky spine of the West MacDonnell Ranges from Alice Springs
Telegraph Station to Mount Sonder.
● Light to Light Walk
Where: New South Wales
Length: Four days
The Sapphire Coast was named after a gem because of its deep blue sparkling waters. A hike here takes you deep into this dramatic landscape from striking 320-million-year old red rocky outcrops to coastal forests. Glide along its dynamic waters on a cruise to take in the birdlife, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a dolphin or,
from May to November, a migrating whale.

Phebe Cox grew up in what might seem an unlikely mental health danger zone for a kid: tony Palo Alto, California. But behind its surface of family success and wealth, she said, is an environment of heavy pressure on students to perform. By 2016, when Cox was in middle school, Palo Alto had a teen suicide (自杀) rate four times
the national average.
Cox’s family lived by the railroad tracks where many of the suicides occurred. She got counseling (咨询). But that choice is not always easily available to teens in crisis — and she and her peers regarded school mental health
services as their last choice because of concerns about privacy.
A new program provides an alternative. Called Allcove, it offers unattached health and wellness sites to those ages 12 to 25. Although Allcove is built to support a wide range of physical, emotional and social needs, its main goal is to deal with mental health challenges before they develop into deeper problems. Cox said, “I felt pretty
helpless as a young teenager, but Allcove is all about the students and the students’ needs.”
About half of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14 and 75% before age 25, according to researchers. Yet access to mental health care in the U.S. is lacking. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, some 30 million adults and children with mental health conditions go without treatment, and 129 million people live in areas
with shortages of mental health professionals.
Allcove provides fully staffed safe spaces for teens and young adults to discuss and deal with their health, both mental and physical. Dr. Steven Adelsheim, a psychiatrist, who created the Allcove in 2014, said, “There is a crying need in the U.S. to reach kids with early intervention and help.” Sometimes a kid may come in with a physical complaint, and only after a few visits is the mental suffering brought out into the open. When that happens, Alcove can make a “warm handoff” to a mental health specialist onsite. Success, say Adelsheim and Cox, would
mean the establishment of hundreds of Allcove centers up and down the state and, eventually, around the country.
46 .Why did Cox and her peers regard school mental health services as their last choice
A .They were indifferent to the program.
B .They were concerned about their health.
C .They were upset about the occurrence of the suicides.
D .They were worried about their personal information leak.
47 .How does the author prove the lack of mental health care in the US
A .By giving examples. B .By listing data.
C .By showing comparison. D .By analyzing cause and effect.
48 .What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 7 mean
A .The sense of mental suffering. B .Involvement of health experts.
C .Complaints about physical suffering. D .The pressing call for assistance.
49 .Which of the following best describes the impact of the program
A .Predictable. B .Short-lived. C .Unidentifiable. D .Significant.

School-based Vocational (职业的) Training in Germany
If you want to do vocational training in healthcare, social services or technical professions, you can do
school-based vocational training in Germany.
What is it
School-based vocational training does not take place partly in a company, but only at a vocational school or a vocational college. Here you are not an apprentice (学徒) in a company, but you learn practically full-time at the
school desk.
What does it teach you
You will find a variety of professions that you can learn at a vocation al school or a vocational college. Offers are available for professions such as nurse, kindergarten teacher and medical-technical assistant. Many—but not
all—of the more than 350 officially acknowledged vocational training programs in Germany are school-based.
How long does it take
School-based vocational training in Germany is usually full-time. The duration and the curricula are fixed for the individual professions, but there are different vacation periods from school to school, which interrupt the
training periods.
How much does it cost
In contrast to in-company training, you will not usually receive a monthly training allowance for school-based training; in many cases, you will even have to pay for this training. If you go to a state vocational school or a college, there are usually no fees. However, this may not be the case with privately run vocational colleges or
schools.
Germany’s vocational training system is known for its strong focus on practical skills and employability.

students who completed a vocation al training program found employment within one year of graduation.

Halloran has loved mountains since she was five or six, when her mother took her to Ireland during the summer holidays. They lived overlooking Annascaul lake on the Dingle peninsula. “It’s a lovely viewpoint. I used to sit there as a child. I loved the freedom of going up the mountain alone, when I was nine or ten. I cried for days before going back to London because I felt I would be in a rabbit hutch (窝).”
For Halloran, life had settled into a comfortable rhythm. But then her four-year-old son died in a car accident; six years later, her husband also passed away. After the loss, she became a workaholic. She went into the office at 5
am, and worked until 10 pm, which was her stability. And it was time to make a change.
One day last September, Ann Halloran made her way to her nearest bus stop in Hove, East Sussex. She had done plenty of travelling but, at 65, was setting off alone on her first backpacking adventure. Somewhere between her first stop in Turkey and her final destination—a yoga retreat ( 静修) in Mazunte, Mexico—she found a new
perspective.
In Nepal, climbing the 5,400 m Gokyo Ri in the Himalayas, Halloran broke her walking stick. She has osteoporosis (骨质疏松症), which makes bones more likely to break, so the stick was essential in the mountains.
Losing it was a blow, but she found reserves of inner strength.
Now, she says: “Whenever I get scared, I think of myself on top of that mountain, looking out over Lake
Gokyo—and beyond that, Everest. I say, if you can do that, you can do anything.”
Since the backpacking adventure, she understands more fully the role that work played in her life for so long. “Work was reliable. I knew what I was doing. I’m a workaholic to this day,” she says. “I’ve just realised on this
yoga retreat that I have to let go of all that. The penny is dropping for me now.”
53 .Why did Halloran cry before returning to London
A .Because she didn’t enjoy living alone.
B .Because she was unwilling to live with rabbits.
C .Because she wasn’t used to travelling for a long time.
D .Because she couldn’t bear to part from the freedom in the mountain.
54 .What made Halloran a workaholic
A .Her desire to earn more. B .Her goal to settle comfortably.
C .Her wish to overcome sorrow. D .Her plan to save money for travelling.
55 .What can we draw from Halloran’s experience in Nepal
A .It is never too old to learn.
B .An idle youth, a needy age.
C .East or west, home is the best.
D .Success belongs to the persevering.
56 .What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph mean
A .Money is not necessary for Halloran any more.
B .Halloran has realized something more meaningful.
C .Halloran will make a tighter budget for her next trip.
D .Nothing can be equal to Halloran’s salary from work.

Jose Alberto Gutierrez’s life would never be the same again after finding a copy of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy in the garbage 20 years ago. It happened while he was driving his garbage truck through wealthier neighborhoods at night and seeing deserted books. It sparked his desire to start rescuing books from the garbage. He took home between 50 and 60 books every morning after his nine-hour shift. Eventually, he turned his book
collection into a community library.
Colombia’s capital city of Bogota has 13 million residents and 19 public libraries. However, these libraries tend to be far away from where rural and poorer communities live. The option of buying new books is non-existent for families struggling to make ends meet. Having access to a library of books and being taken away to another
world while absorbed in a book is a luxury for the kids who visit Gutierrez’s library.
Gutierrez grew up poor, and his family could not afford to educate him beyond primary school. Nevertheless, his mother was a keen reader and read stories to him every night. Her love for books left a deep impression on Gutierrez, who never let a lack of formal education stop him from reading classics by the likes of Victor Hugo,
Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Today, his community library, called “The Strength of Words”, occupies most of his home and is piled from floor to ceiling with fiction and non-fiction titles. Everything from school textbooks to story books can be found in
his collection of more than 20,000 books!
The Strength of Words library opens every weekend. It is not just school-going children who are enjoying the benefits of The Strength of Words library. Adults are also welcome to expand their horizons and develop new skills
to build a better life for themselves.
Despite having done so much for his community, Gutierrez is not yet content to call it a day. He continues to search through bins for reading material and has even travelled to book fairs in Mexico and Chile to sell his idea of
building library from unwanted books.
60 .What inspired Gutierrez to build the community library
A .The dilemma he faced on the night shift.
B .The hobby he has started since childhood.
C .Famous novelists he liked very much.
D .Abandoned books he came across at work.
61 .What can we learn about Gutierrez’s mother
A .She was born into a poor family.
B .She bought Gutierrez many books.
C .She influenced Gutierrez greatly.
D .She enjoyed reading Hugo’s works.

4 .What can we learn about Farmlink Project from the text
A .It was launched by some college students.B .It helps relieve American poverty.
C .It cooperated with the farms worldwide. D .It is supported by the government.
5 .Why did some farms waste the produce left
A .The produce was of poor quality.
B .Nobody came to purchase the produce.
C .The farmers refused to sell it at a low price.
D .Food shortages were no longer a problem globally.
6 .What difficulty did the students encounter in the start-up phase
A .They were lacking in experience. B .They overloaded the supply.
C .Their navigation aids didn’t work. D .The vehicles were inadequate.

15 .How can a visitor get to Cloughoughter Castle
A .By car. B .By air. C .By water. D .On foot.
16 .What is Ciaran Cannon’s main purpose of cycling around the counties
A .Spreading Irish culture. B .Enjoying world scenery.
C .Searching for a life goal. D .Contributing to a good cause.
17 .Who likes hiking and wrote a book on it

An important person who has made a huge impact on my life is Savannah. Savannah is my twin sister and my life would be completely different without her. Everyone always thinks it’s amazing to have a twin and it is but it’s also not. People always beautify having a twin. They say it’s natural to be good friends, which is true, but nobody ever
talks about the negative side of it.
People also say things like “Who’s the smarter twin ” As twins, we are constantly getting compared. In the second grade, she got admitted to a class for advanced students. In 6th grade she was put into advanced math. I finally got put into advanced math for 8th grade but it still wasn’t enough because by then she was in a class that
was two years ahead and mine was just one.
I am growing into my own
person.
18 .What is rarely discussed about twins according to the text
A .The appearance. B .The bad side. C .The difference. D .The friendship.
19 .Why was the author thought stupid
A .She did very badly in class. B .She learned advanced math in Grade 8.
C .She liked to compare herself to Savannah. D .She was worse than Savannah in her studies.
20 .Why did the author give up softball
A .She played it worse than Savannah. B .She was injured in a match.
C .She was laughed at by teammates. D .She had lost interest in it.

It takes confidence to make a new start—there’s a dark period in-between where you’re neither one thing nor
the other.
So, I did and, to my surprise, got some wonderful feedback.

It reminded me that nature can be both powerful and unpredictable, but that we must persevere and adapt to whatever it throws at us. my family and I had weathered the storm together.

The books written and published in the 1920s remain on the “best ever” lists. Here are 4 books that everyone
should read.
The Great Gatsby
The themes in the novel reflect the sudden change in the character of America itself, and in some ways it’s
among the first major modern novels produced in this country.

【答案】39 .C 40 .C 41 .D 42 .B

意思是“不愿意的” 。故选 C。
40 .细节理解题。根据第二段“MacCallum moved quite a bit in childhood and spent her formative years outside
Canberra in a farmhouse without electricity, where she enjoyed the freedom of the natural world.(童年时,

According to a study by the German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, around 78% of
students who completed a vocation al training program found employment within one year of graduation.
50 .What can most probably be learnt in school-based vocational training
A .Planting crops. B .Taking care of the elderly.
C .Driving a vehicle. D .Mastering a foreign language.
51 .What should a student do to enjoy the fee-free policy
A .Attend a state college. B .Receive an offer.
C .Have a full-time course. D .Apply for a private school.

B
