Dr Chen: Hello, Leo. What’s the matter
Leo: I’ve got a cold. I’ve been suffering from a headache and a runny nose for several days.
Dr Chen: Does this happen a lot
Leo: Yes. Also, I find it difficult to fall asleep at night. So I’m always tired during the day, and I often find it hard to concentrate at school.
Dr Chen: I see. Tell me, in the last two months, have you been eating healthily
Leo: Well, not really. I’ve been eating a lot of fast food recently.
Dr Chen: Why not try a healthier diet It’ll help your body grow stronger.
Leo: OK.
Dr Chen: How about exercise Do you do any sport?
Leo: Actually, I don’t like sport. I’d rather stay indoors reading than play sport.
Dr Chen: Well, many teenagers today don’t feel like playing sport. But it would

be good for you to be more active, that is, to do some exercise. This will strengthen your immune system so you can fight off illness. Exercise will also burn energy, so you’ll feel tired, and sleep better at night.
Leo: That sounds good.
Dr Chen: And it’ll be even better if you can choose an activity like swimming or jogging to do twice a week. You know, aerobic exercise helps improve brain functions. That may help you concentrate.
Leo:(unenthusiastically) OK, I understand.
Dr Chen: Take this medicine twice a day. If you still feel uncomfortable, come back and see me in one week, OK But over the long term, you need to improve your lifestyle. That’ll make a difference.
Leo: Thanks, doctor.

Leo:I went to see the doctor and she said I have to make exercise a regular part of my life. I know I need to exercise but I don’t have time or money. What should I do
Rachel:A few minutes a day is all it takes. Start doing small amounts of exercise whenever you can. Take the stairs instead of the lift when possible. And if you have been sitting for too long while studying, get up and dance to your favourite music.
Leo:Interesting! I can do that. But do you think I need to pay to exercise in the gym
Sample
Rachel:Not necessarily. The good news is that you don’t need money to exercise! You can go running in your community’s park or try walking to school.
Leo:Great suggestions! How do you feel about joining me I don’t want to exercise alone.
Rachel:Of course! I’ll help you get into an exercise routine if you’re serious about it.
Leo:I am! Thanks for encouraging me, Rachel. We should find other friends to join us too. What do you think of that
Rachel:That’s the best idea you’ve ever had!
Help Rachel write a reply to Leo to encourage him to work out regularly. Use your ideas from Part C and the information in Parts A and B to help you.

Dear Leo,
I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling well recently. But the doctor is right—you do need to exercise more. I have some suggestions that you might find helpful.
First, remember that you don’t have to exercise for 30 minutes or a whole hour non-stop. Instead, try to do small amounts of exercise whenever you can. For example, try taking the stairs up to your flat instead of the lift. When you study for a long time, remember to take regular breaks. Get out of your chair and move around a bit: take a walk or practise some dance moves.
Start by showing your understanding of the situation.
Sample
Second, you don’t have to pay to exercise. Many forms of exercise can be done outside the gym. For instance, you can go running in your school playground, in the park or around your community. All you need is a pair of comfortable running shoes!
Finally, I understand that exercising alone can be boring, but you can invite your family and friends to work out with you. Encourage them to take exercise too so that you can have fun exercising together. This way, you are more likely to stick with your exercise routine.
Give suggestions with reasons.
I hope you’ll find these suggestions helpful. I’m sure you’ll soon be feeling happier and healthier.
Yours truly,
Rachel
End the email by offering encouragement.
