Hannay walked along the country for a long time. Then he saw a road worker, who was working alone, fixing the road. Hannay could see the road worker was not feeling well. Hannay came up to him and said “How are you ”

The Person Who Gave Me The Biggest Help
The person who gave me the biggest help is my English teacher----Miss Chen. When I was in primary school, I was very shy and was not willing to answer questions in class. What’s more, my English was very poor. At that time, Miss Chen paid much attention to me. She gave me a lot of chances and often asked me questions. With her patient help, I gradually became very confident in myself and sometimes voluntarily answer the teachers’ questions.
Now I was very thankful to Miss Chen. I always regarded her as my best helper--who not only improved my personality, but also helped me make much progress in my study.

Dear Jack,
I am glad that you are going to study Chinese in China. Before you come, I would like to tell you what body language Chinese people often use.
Just like in New Zealand, in China, people greet each other with head nodding, smiling, shaking hands and so on. But we hardly hug or kiss each other in public. Eye contact is an important part of body language. But to be polite, you had better not look at the older people’s eyes for a long time. To make a good impression on others, you should smile at others when you are talking with them. It’s impolite to cross your arms. In China, when people agree with each other, they will nod their heads. However, when they have different opinions, they will shake their heads instead.
I hope my advice will help you and you can have a good time in China.
Best wishes!
Yours
Li Wei
Last Sunday, our school organized a meaningful volunteer event at the local old people's home. I was among the students who eagerly(渴望地,急切地) participated in this heartwarming(感人的) activity. We gathered at the school gate at 8:00 a.m.
We got there by bus and when we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles from the elderly. The day was filled with chores such as cleaning, sweeping, and making beds. We wanted to make their living space more comfortable. They told us some really interesting and fascinating stories from long ago.
We didn't leave until 5:00 p.m., our hearts touched by the wisdom and kindness of the seniors. This experience has taught me the value of compassion(同情心) and the joy of giving back to the community(社会,社区). It was a day I will cherish珍惜 forever.
Last Sunday I went to be a volunteer with my classmates. We gathered at the school gate at eight o’clock in the morning and then took the bus from school to the old people’s home. In the old people’s home, we helped the old people read newspaper, talked with them, helped them sweep the floor, fold clothes and make beds. We also cooked for the old people. The old people told us stories about the past. Their past lives were hard but also happy. We stayed until 5:00 in the afternoon. We took an active part in the activities and we all had a good time.
I have learnt a lot from today’s experience. I realized the importance of giving. I like being a volunteer. Volunteering can not only help others, but also improve my independence.

Recently, my experience almost made myself lose a few friends. I once texted my friends. I was so happy sharing until I found out I had been talking directly to those funny friends. I didn’t mean anything bad, but those friends thought I was making fun of them. That really made them angry. We all had that bad moment.
Texting is never similar to face-to-face communication. Face-to-face communication shows meaning beyond words. We have different gestures and expressions while talking. These show how we are feeling at the moment. Eye contact, touch and tones are also part of the message. While you are talking, a raised tone can mean exactly the opposite to what the words actually mean.
Noticing the signals from the listeners’ body language and facial expressions can tell whether we are talking in a right or wrong way. There was a time when I had a discussion with my manager and workmates. I didn’t realize I was saying something really terrible to my manager. I found one of my workmates making an angry face and looked quickly and secretly at the manager for a short moment. That little act saved my career!
Sadly, nowadays many people have got used to the communication mode of texting and they refuse face-to-face communication with friends. When we are used to that, we finally lose our knowledge about body language.
Texting may be convenient when we just meet a new friend. Small talk by text can then be a useful way to build friendship. However, texting always leads to communication that stays at a surface level. Only when we meet face -to-face with others can we show our true self. Therefore, we should never depend heavily on texting.

Books have great power. Among their pages, readers can be led to any imaginable place and become anyone or anything. Unfortunately, many children from all over the world have no books to read! For several years, Maria Keller, a 16-year-old girl from the US, has been changing that fact.
When Maria was 8 years old, she loved reading. But she noticed that some of her classmates didn’t read as much as she did. When she asked her mother why that could be, her mother said that they might not be able to afford books. Maria had never thought about this. Now, at the age of 16, she has collected over 2.8 million books and has sent them to many states and countries around the world. She says, “I cannot live without books. As I continue my work, I have learned that the number of kids who have no books rises to hundreds of millions. So I can’t give up, even after reaching my goal of collecting 1 million books at the age of 13.”
She recently set a new goal: to offer books to kids in need in every state in the US, and every country in the world. She keeps checking her progress on a large map at the warehouse where books are stored.
