You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. Even if you know some freshmen (新生) , you still feel nervous that you don't know any upperclassmen or teachers. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces
Most high schools hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts, which is helpful not only because you can know your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but also because you get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may have already recognized a few familiar faces. When you talk to your new classmates, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with them can help you develop friendships.
The work in high school is something that freshmen are probably worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learnt in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
High school also has more extracurricular activities than middle school does such as clubs, music and theatre groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
High school gives you the chance to learn how to manage your time, to develop your social skills and interests, and more importantly to be more independent and responsible.

You may not have heard the words “freshman fifteen” before, but they are very important for students who are entering university. 1.“Fifteen” refers to fifteen pounds — the fifteen pounds added to a student’s weight in his or her first year. There are a number of reasons why first year university students put on weight, but it’s encouraging to know that freshmen don’t have to add these harmful fifteen pounds.

Think more about what you eat.
Eat plenty of vegetables and healthy meats.
Don’t eat desserts full of sugar; have fruit after dinner.

It’s all right to have a little fast food — but not often.
Remember that the “freshman fifteen” can happen to anyone. 5.Together, try to eat healthy food and not to eat junk food. Walking, running; and playing sports is always more fun with friends. Help each other and you can have a healthy and happy freshman year.

1.【答案】A
根据划线单词所在句——文章第二段第一句中的“Most high schools hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts, before school actually starts, which is helpful not only because you can know your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but also because you get to meet fellow freshmen”(大多数高中都会在开学之前举行新生orientation,它是有帮助的,可以让你了解教学楼周围的路、认识一些老师和新同学)可知,freshman orientation可以帮助你了解校园,认识老师和同学,由此可它类似于新生培训大会。 故选A项。
2.【答案】A
根据文章第三段第一句“The work in high school is something that freshmen are probably worried about.”(高中学业可能是新生担心的)可知,高中的学业是新生们很可能会担心的一方面。故选A项。
根据文章倒数第二段“High school also has more extracurricular activities than middle school does such as clubs, music and theatre groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.”(比起初中来,高中有更多的课外互动,例如俱乐部、音乐和戏剧社团以及体育队。

1.C根据上文“You may not have heard the words “freshman fifteen” before, but they are very important for students who are entering university.(你可能没听过“新生十五”这个词,但它们对即将进入大学的学生来说非常重要)”以及后文““Fifteen” refers to fifteen pounds—the fifteen pounds added to a student’s weight in his or her first year.(“十五”指的是十五磅——学生第一年增加的十五磅体重)”可知,上文提到了“新生十五”这个词,后文则解释了“十五”的含义,可知本句承接上文就“新生”这一词进行解释,C选项中freshman对应上文中freshman。
2.D根据后文“Some students choose unhealthy food, because now their parents are not nearby to help them choose. Some students visit the kitchen many times while studying. Late at night, some students get unhealthy fast food such as French fries and chicken nuggets with soda to drink.(一些学生选择不健康的食物,因为现在他们的父母不在身边帮助他们选择。
4.E根据本部分小标题“Eating right(正确饮食)”以及上文中“ Don’t eat desserts full of sugar; have fruit after dinner.( 不要吃含糖的甜点;晚饭后吃水果)”可知,本段主要是关于健康饮食的建议,故E选项“当你学习的时候,尽量不要吃那么多垃圾食品”符合语境,故选E项。
5.A根据上文“Remember that the “freshman fifteen” can happen to anyone.(记住“新生十五”可能发生在任何人身上)”以及后文“Together, try to eat healthy food and not to eat junk food. Walking, running; and playing sports is always more fun with friends. Help each other and you can have a healthy and happy freshman year.(一起,试着吃健康的食物,不要吃垃圾食品。 散步、跑步;和朋友一起做运动总是更有趣。 互相帮助,你可以有一个健康和快乐的大一)”可知,上文提到“新生十五”可能发生在任何人身上,后文则提到了一起和互相帮助,可推测本句是在说明一起保持健康饮食的人,A选项中friends对应后文中friends。故A选项“和你的朋友谈谈”符合语境,故选A项。
