Many Chinese people who have been to the United States think that Americans pay a little part of their money for food each day. Yet, in the latest 13 years, food prices have gone up 30% for most American families. Everyone agrees that the cost of feeding a family has risen sharply. But who is really responsible
Many people say the farmers who produce the vegetables, fruit, meat, and eggs are responsible. But farmers say that the rise in food prices is very small compared to(和…相比) the rise in their cost of living. Farmers think middlemen (中间人) have got much more money than they do. Middlemen are those people who stand between the farmers and the people who buy and eat the food. For example, truck drivers, owners of food stores and so on. Are middlemen really responsible for higher food prices
Economists(经济学家) don't think so. They have found that the money that meat packers(包装商) and food stores get is less than 1% in all. They say that food costs more now because modern housewives have jobs outside the home. They have less time for cooking after a day's work. They like to buy food which has already been prepared before it reaches the market. They want to buy many kinds of food that can be put on their dining tables easily and quickly. But of course they must be prepared to pay for the services of those who make their work easier.
It seems that the answer to the question of rising prices is not an easy one. Quite a number of people share the responsibility for the sharp rise in food costs.

Washing your hands is a simple habit. However, some people don't do it. According to the study, many people might have contact with feces, but only 26.2 percent of them wash their hands. This is because they don't have soap in some parts of the world. In less-developed countries, only 27 percent of people can use soap.
But there are other reasons. One is the optimism bias(乐观主义偏差). People might think that it's more likely for bad things to happen to other people than to themselves. A study found that if students had higher levels of unrealistic (不切实际的) optimism, there were less likely to wash their hands.
Social norms(社会规范) play a role too. We are social animals. If we see others washing their hands in the bathroom, we will do it as well. But when nobody else is doing it, we don't either.
Finally, there's disgust. Some people are sensitive to dirty things and throw up(呕吐) easily, while others aren't. Many studies show that if people don't throw up easily, they are less likely to wash their hands. Even when they do, they don't spend as long under the tap.
Why is it such a big deal Washing your hands can save your life. It helps people live longer. In 1850, hand-washing was first promoted in countries like the UK. At that time, the average lifespan was just 40 years old. But over the years, it has improved. Hand-washing was important. A study also found that regularly washing your hands can cut our risk of respiratory infections(呼吸道感染) by between 6 to 44 percent.
53. How many reasons are mentioned in this passage about people who don't wash their hands

Big data(大数据) is a lot of sets of information that are put together so they can be used by a computer program. The computer program looks for different kinds of answers or patterns(样本) in the data. Big data can have different kinds of information from many sources(来源), such as information that comes from schools, social media sites, companies and governments. One set of data can have people's names and addresses. Another set can have what they like, where they go to school, and how much time they spend on the computer.
Big data can be used in many ways. The government uses it to understand how many people travel on buses or trains. This information is then used to make bus or train systems better. Some schools use big data to understand which children may need extra help in class. The teacher can then give certain students more help or support so those students who can succeed in panies use big data, too. It helps them understand who buys their products. For example, one company uses weather data to see when people eat the most ice cream.
Big data can be used for good reasons. Some hospitals use big data to predict if a baby who is born too early will get sick. The hospital can then take extra steps to take care of that baby, so he or she does not get sick. Big data can also be used for bad reasons. It can be used to predict which kinds of people are likely to break the law or hurt others, even if they have not done anything wrong.
How can big data be used for good and bad things It is because the computer programs which is used to look at big data and understand it are written by people. People think in a certain way. Because they think in a certain way, they build a model of those ideas. These ideas are then used to look at the data. Sometimes, these ideas are helpful for people or businesses. Other times, bad ideas can cause problems for certain groups of people.
57. What is the first paragraph about

59. One company uses weather information to .
A. understand when people will need ice cream B. know when people will visit the hospital

How do students spend their spare time after finishing their homework Watch TV, play computer games, or go outside to relax. Here's a good example.
Tim and Kerry Meek are both teachers. They live in the UK with their two daughters: eleven-year-old Amy and nine-year-old Ella. Recently, the Meek family has become the focus(焦点) of the whole country after they completed 100 different outdoor activities in one year.
The Meek couple didn't want their children to spend all their free time in front of the TV and become “couch potatoes”. So about one year ago, the Meeks decided that watching TV and playing computer games were not permitted. Instead, they set 100 tasks for the two girls to do outside. Although Mr. and Mrs. Meek are not outdoor activity fans, they took part in all the activities to encourage their daughters. It turns out that the two sisters really had a good time joining in the activities.
Every holiday and weekend, whether it's sunny, rainy or snowy, the Meeks would go out to try the activities on their list, including hiking, sailing, climbing, skiing, and so on. The two little girls not only had a wonderful time, but also learned a lot of skills from the activities. They were even able to stand up in front of their school to give a talk for charity. “Our friends spend a lot of their free time doing things which are harmful to their health. Luckily, we've had the chance to experience something different.”Amy and Ella also helped their parents to draw up a new list of challenges for the next 12 months.
