It is reported that tea has helped the poor farmers in Yunnan find a way out of poverty (贫穷) thanks to the efforts of a man named Ren Huaican.
Ren was suffering mouth ulcers (溃疡) when he first visited the Jingmai Mountain in Pu’er City in the spring of 2006. However, after picking off several leaves from the old tea trees and chewing (咀嚼) them, he found the pain was gone the next morning. He felt very amazed. Ren began to show great interest in the tea from Yunnan. He found that the local tea business was very scattered (分散的). He also realized that the local tea farmers were very poor because of the undeveloped tea market. So he made up his mind to develop the tea industry in order to help the local people get out of poverty.
In September 2006, Ren set up a tea company. He hired (雇佣) poor farmers from neighboring areas to pick tea leaves. Professional technicians (技师) were invited to teach the farmers how to do their jobs scientifically. The company taught them how to manage their trees and produce the best tea. Part of earth’s beauty comes from its oceans. Ocean scientists study the chemical make-up of the ocean, weather patterns, the geography of the ocean floor, and many other areas. Their work is exciting, although sometimes dangerous. Using technology to do certain tasks helps. For example, robotic arms are used for very dangerous tasks.
One basic part of ocean study is understanding waves and how they work. Wind is the great maker of waves. The waves we know are mostly produced by winds blowing over the sea. They are directly connected with the wind speed and the time that wind lasts.
Sometimes ocean life can be seen in the wave. Living things seem to be staying within the wave, moving slowly inside it as if they were weightless. Besides the beauty of waves, scientists are interested in their technical ways. The diagram of waves shows how scientists examine waves. Waves are measured (测量) from the top (crest) to the bottom (trough). This allows scientists to find out the height of a wave. They also measure waves from crest to crest to determine (测定) the length of a wave.
During serious storms, huge waves might cut a ship apart. Ships are at great risk of winding up as broken pieces after being hit by the force of a huge wave. By understanding the ocean, scientists can prevent this breakup of ships by predicting when the water will be too dangerous for people and their ships. The study of waves and the ocean also allows scientists to make sure how certain beaches were formed. By studying the oceans, a great deal can be learned about the surface we live on.
What can we learn from the second paragraph
Waves can make wind.
Most waves are produced by winds.
Scientists make most waves.
Waves have nothing to do with wind.
What is the meaning of “the length of a wave” according to paragraph 3
The beauty of huge waves.
The technical way to study the sea.
The distance from crest to crest of a wave.
The distance from the top to the bottom of a wave.
Which of the following statements are right according to the passage
①Scientists can decide the weather patterns.
②We can’t find living things in the waves.
③By studying the ocean, scientists can prevent the breakup of ships.
④the study of waves helps scientists know how certain beaches were formed.
①③ B. ②④ C. ③④ D. ②③
Where is the passage probably from
A. A diary entry. B. A fairy tale. C. A travel guide. D. A science magazine.

Wake up, boys and girls! Put up your hand if you try to repair your tired body by sleeping in (睡懒觉) on weekends. A new study says the habit might not be a good idea for your health.
A ten-day study came out in the magazine Current Biology. Volunteers were divided into three groups. The first group enjoyed nine hours’ sleep each night. The second group was allowed to sleep only five hours each night. The third group was given five hours’ sleep Monday through Friday. 56._____ But they were put back on the short sleep schedule the next Monday.
Both the second and third groups ate more snacks at night and put on weight. They also saw a decrease (减少) in insulin sensitivity (胰岛素敏感性), a warning sign for diabetes (糖尿病). Researchers have long known a lack (缺乏) of sleep can increase health risks. 57._____
“Even though people in the third group slept as much as they could on weekends, it was not enough,” said Dr. Kenneth Wright, who led the study. “When they went back to the short sleep schedule the next week, their body failed to control blood sugar. 58._____”
So what should we do if sleeping in over the weekend is not a good choice 59._____ Cut out the “sleep stealers” such as watching television shows or spending time on computers or mobile phones. Always remember: 60._____.
Getting enough sleep is as important as having good eating habits or doing exercise regularly. That was partly because their biological clock (生物钟) had been changed. But it was surprising that the third group had been worse than the second one. Dr. Wright gave advice in two words: sleep longer. And then they were allowed to sleep as much as they liked over a weekend.

Have you ever counted the number of digits (数字) in your mobile phone number Your number has 11 digits. You may sometimes find it hard to remember your number. That’s because China has the ①________ mobile phone numbers in the world. Why is that
The 11 digits can be divided into three parts. Each part has a different meaning. The first three numbers tell you which mobile phone service provider (提供者) you are using. For example, 135 is for China Mobile Communications Corporation and 188 is for China Unicom. The fourth to the seventh digits tell you where the number is registered (注册). And the ②_______ four digits are random (随机的).
The main reason for using 11 digits is that we have the largest population in the world. We once had 10 numbers. But as our population grew, there were not ③_______ numbers for us to use. So we began to use 11 digits starting from 1999. 11 digits can be used to make tens of billions of mobile phone numbers. That’s enough for each person to have seven or eight phone numbers to use in China.
And mobile numbers can be recycled. Usually, the service provider will reuse a canceled number after three to six months. If you call a number that you haven’t contracted (联系) for a long time, you may find that its owner has changed.
Besides China, Britain and Japan also use 11-digit mobile phone numbers. But their numbers always start with 0. So they cannot create as many numbers as we can. Countries like the United States, Australia and India use phone numbers with 10 digits. Canada’s mobile phone numbers are perhaps the shortest in the world: they use 7 digits.
What can we know from the fourth to seventh digits of a mobile phone number in China
