We started to row,but about one mile out,the weather suddenly changed. Although the weather was not good,we didn’t want to give up.But finally my friends and I agreed that we should go back.We tried to change the boat’s direction, but as soon as we changed it,the oarlock(桨架) broke. Therefore,we were unable to turn back.We had to wait for help because we couldn’t do anything.
After seeing the change of weather,we shouldn’t have continued to row, but it was too late.We regretted it.The sea changed a lot,the waves got very high, and the boat began to shake like a cradle. One of my friends started to cry; another started to vomit.Three hours passed, but nobody came to help us.We were just praying.

Questions are probably the easiest way to open a conversation. If the other person is uncomfortable,as people often are,you can ask questions that are easy to answer.Besides making them comfortable,it will show them that you aren’t going to talk about yourself all the time. But you should avoid topics that might result in arguments, such as politics or religion.

Almost everyone gossips. And a new study finds that people spend about 52 minutes per day,on average, talking to someone about others who are not present.
But here’s the surprise:Despite the assumption that most gossip is trash talk, the study finds the majority of gossip is non-judgemental chat.
“People love to talk about others,” says Jeremy Cone,a psychologist at Williams College.“Think about your own conversations with a family member or friend:You talk about everyday things that keep you connected. You share your daughter got her driver’s license or your uncle has a kidney stone.Much of it is just documenting facts.”

Of course, the study also finds that some gossip is negative or mean-spirited.About 15% of the gossip included some type of negative judgement.
But even negative gossip can serve a purpose,as more research has found.
“I think gossiping can be a smart thing to do,” says Elena Martinescu who has studied gossip in the workplace.“It allows people to keep track of what’s going on and form a social connection with other people.”
Research has shown that gossip can help build group cohesion(凝聚力) and cooperation.“When you gossip, you can keep track of who is contributing to the group and who’s being selfish,” Martinescu explains.“And by sharing this information, you can exclude those group members who are social loafers (游手好闲的人).”

“We also found negative gossip makes people likely to repair the aspects of their behavior that they were criticized for,” Martinescu says.
So,say, for instance, you were criticized for always arriving at work late. Hearing that gossip about yourself may motivate you to want to be on time.
Of course, this isn’t a license to be loose lips or to repeat baseless claims that can damage someone’s reputation unfairly. But confiding(吐露个人隐私) in your friends and colleagues and sharing impressions about another person—even when they’re negative—may be helpful.

Life affects friendships. As we grow, marry, fight in wars, move across the country or change jobs, old friendships fall away and new ones come.As long as we live, the things around us change, and as long as things change, friendships are affected.
When we were children,we had best friends. No matter what happened we were still friends. We live our lives and do what life calls for us to do.However, as we get older, memories fade, faces blur, and even friends’ names from childhood are forgotten.

Do you have a question about friendship Do you wonder what to do with a friend who is no longer friendly Perhaps you will say that you can’t control others. If someone wants to be your friend,it is their choice. All you can do is treat them well and do the best for them when you are with them. Then you wish them well when they leave.
You can talk to old timers and they will tell you that life is full of joy and sorrow, and that what bothers you today will one day become a memory and the pain will be gone.Seniors might tell you that you will learn more as you get older. They will tell you that friendships come and friendships go.Sometimes when they go,it will hurt, but you will be okay with it.It’s the way life works, after all.
