Analysis of Teaching Material This is a reading lesson, Choosing a film. The topic of this unit is ‘Going to see a film’. This lesson is the first period, which contains the dialogue among Jill, Kitty and Peter. In this period, the students will learn some types of films and they are expected to consolidate reading skills of predicting, skimming and scanning with the help of the dialogue.
Analysis of Students The students are familiar with the topic of this unit and they have some basic information about the films. But they may have some difficulty in telling the names of the film in English and finding out the type of the film. As for the grammar, the students have learnt the sentence patterns ‘So ...’ and ‘Neither...’ in 7A. But they may have some difficulties in using them correctly. With the pictures and the real situations, the students will practise the sentence patterns. What’s more, some of them have some problems in pronunciation. Therefore, it’s necessary for them to read after the recording.
Teaching Objectives By the end of the class, students are expected to: understand some new words and phrases about films, such as: a film guide, action, adventure and so on; get some specific information about different types of films and find out the reasons for people’s different choices through reading the dialogue and pictures; know how to express their likes and dislikes about different kinds of films and enjoy the life by watching the films they like.

Lead-in Enjoy a presentation about the film—Heidi and Grandpa. To lead in the topic today and arouse their interest.
Pre-reading Look at the pictures of different films and learn different types of films. Look at the pictures of the film and tell its kind as rapidly as possible. To brainstorm different types of films and check their understanding.
While-reading Look at the picture and predict: What are they doing What are they going to do Possible predictions: They are talking about films about clowns. They are going to see a film. 2.Read the introduction on page nine, and judge if the predictions are true or false. 3.Read the whole dialogue on page 9 and tick them out.
