What did the team find
Dreams of finding lost treasure almost came true recently. A new machine called 'The Revealer' has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where--it is said--pirates used to hide gold. The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it. Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure. The leader of the party was examining the soil near the entrance to the cave when the machine showed that there was gold under the ground. Very excited, the part y dug a hole two feet deep. They finally found a small gold coin which was almost worthless. The party then searched the whole cave thoroughly but did not find anything except an empty tin trunk. In spite of this, many people are confident that 'The Revealer' may reveal something of value fairly soon.

实现
A new machine called 'The Revealer' has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground.
called "The Revealer”为过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰machine, which has been buried in the ground是一个定语从句。
be used to detect gold为被动语态,be used to do sth.
e. g. The stick is used to write on the ground.
The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where -- it is said -- pirates used to hide gold.
where = in which 翻译时译为 “在那儿”,修饰 cave;一个地点状语从句
This is the river where I swim.
被用来
据说
被用来
The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it.
fail to do sth.
He failed to see the reason why they sent him away.
Don’t fail to collect me before you go to the party.
I’ll collect my post on my way home.
失败
Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure.
e. g. Attracted by Lily, I joined the class hoping to improve my English language skills.
Dressed in red, Lily went home, laughing.
Very excited, the party dug a hole two feel deep.
Tired of sleeping on the floor, …
Tired, I went home./ I went home tired.
I am five years old.
long/wide/high/deep,人有多高用 “tall”
They finally found a small gold coin which was almost worthless.
词汇辨析:worthless, valuable, invaluable, priceless, valueless
1)worthless 无价值
2) valuable 贵重
3) invaluable贵重
4)priceless
5) valueless
e. g. The book is worth reading.
e. g. The problem is worthy to be considered.
e. g. The article is worthy of careful study. The book is worthy of being read.
They finally found a small gold coin which was almost worthless.
In spite of this, many people are confident that' The Revealer' may reveal something of valuefairly soon.
be of great importance to us = be important to usbe of absence
=be absentbe of difference =be different
1 The search party was looking for__________
(a) gold (b) a gold mine
(c) pirates (d) a tin trunk
2 The search for gold proved that The Revealer _______
(a) works very well (b) doesn't work well
(c) is quite useless (d) isn't very good
