A. Do not drive into flooded areas.
B. Do not wait for instructions to move.
C. Turn off all pieces of electrical equipment.
D. 20 cm of moving water can make you fall.
E. Floods can cause deaths and loss of property.
F. A flash flood often has a dangerous wall of water.
G. Mud from floodwaters may contain chemicals.
F 2. B 3. C 4. D 5. A
1.根据空前“But flash floods(暴洪)can develop quickly, sometimes in just a few minutes and without any signs of rain.(但是山洪暴发迅速,有时只需要几分钟,而且没有任何下雨的迹象。)”可知山洪暴发的速度很快,根据空后“It carries rocks and mud and can sweep away most things in its path.(它携带着岩石和泥土,可以卷走途经的大部分东西。)” A flash flood often has a dangerous wall of water.(暴洪往往会形成一堵危险的水墙。)符合,而且空后的“It”指代的是F项中的“a dangerous wall of water”,符合上下文语境。故选F项。
2.根据空前“Listen to the radio or the television for information. If there is any possibility of a flash flood, move at once to higher ground.(听收音机或电视获取信息。如果有山洪暴发的可能,立即转移到地势较高的地方。)”可知一旦从媒体中获取有山洪暴发的信息就要立刻转移到安全地带,而不应被动等待行动指示,空处位于段末,应对前文进行总结,所以空处应该讲的是从媒体中获取山洪暴发的信息后应该怎么做,B选项Do not wait for instructions to move.(不要等待行动指示。)
3.根据空前“Make your home safe by bringing in outdoor furniture.(带些户外家具,让你的家更安全。)”可知带些户外家具会更安全,根据空后“Do not touch any electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.(如果你身上是湿的或正站在水里,不要触摸任何电器。)” Turn off all pieces of electrical equipment.(关掉所有的电器。)
4.根据空前“Do not walk through moving water.(不要在流动的水中行走。) ”可知山洪暴发时要避免在流水中行走,根据空后“If you have to walk in water, walk where the water is not moving. Use a stick to check the ground in front of you.(如果你一定要在水里走,那就走在水不动的地方。用棍子检查你前面的地面。)”可知如果一定要在水中行走就选择在静水中行走,空处承上启下,所以空处应该讲的是不要在流水中行走的原因,D选项20 cm of moving water can make you fall.(20厘米深的流水会把你冲倒。)
5.根据空后“If floodwaters rise around your car, give up the car and move to higher ground if you can do so safely. Otherwise you and the car can be quickly swept away.(如果洪水在你的汽车周围上涨,放弃汽车,如果安全的话转移到更高的地方。否则你和车很快就会被冲走。) ”可知开车时如果车周围的洪水一直上涨,就放弃汽车并转移到更高更安全的地方,空处位于句首,应对后文进行概括,所以空后应该讲的是为了安全开车时要远离洪水区,A选项Do not drive into flooded areas.(不要开车去洪水区。) 故选A项。

The fear of elevators is actually one of the most common phobias(恐惧症) experienced today. 6 When combined with these other conditions, the fear of elevators is highly common, and usually successfully treated.
7 Some may be frightened of being up so high. Others may be afraid of the enclosed space. Still others are afraid to be close to other people.
Since so many people suffer from the fear of elevators, there may be support groups in some areas. These are most common in cities with lots of tall buildings where riding an elevator is almost impossible to avoid in day-to-day life. 8
Usually, the fear of elevators can be treated. Let sufferers visualize riding an elevator and picture the aspects which are frightening. Then they may be required to involve themselves in the part that scares them most. For example, someone who is afraid of heights may start by climbing a ladder over and over again. 9 Next, they move on to a greater height, such as climbing a tree. As they experience greater and greater levels, their fear may become lessened. Finally, they will be able to enter an elevator.
Sometimes just stepping into it is a start. 10 This will likely still cause anxiety the first few times. But they can use methods which work when accomplishing smaller goals. Finally, after many attempts, riding an elevator may not cause anxiety at all.
A. They can stop this process when it causes little anxiety.
B. By now, you have identified what scares you most.
C. At other times, they will be asked to ride up a few flights.
D. Sufferers generally force themselves to face their fears.
E. Many aspects of riding an elevator may cause fear in sufferers.
F. In these locations, the fear of elevators can affect everyday activities.
G. It may present itself in correlation with another fear, such as the fear of limited spaces.
G 7. E 8. F 9. A 10. C
6. 根据上文“The fear of elevators is actually one of the most common phobias (恐惧症) experienced today.(对电梯的恐惧实际上是当今最常见的恐惧症之一)”以及后文“When combined with these other conditions, the fear of elevators is highly common, and usually successfully treated.(当与这些其他情况相结合时,对电梯的恐惧是非常普遍的,并且通常能成功地治疗)”可知,电梯恐惧可能与其他恐惧相结合,由此可知,空处提到了另一种有关的恐惧。
7. 根据后文“Some may be frightened of being up so high. Others may be afraid of the enclosed space. Still others are afraid to be close to other people.(有些人可能害怕高。其他人可能会害怕封闭的空间。还有一些人害怕与他人亲近)”可知,后文列举了不同人不同的恐惧,本句为本段第一句,应总起下文,故E选项“乘坐电梯的许多方面可能会引起患者的恐惧”符合语境,故选E。
8. 根据上文“Since so many people suffer from the fear of elevators, there may be support groups in some areas. These are most common in cities with lots of tall buildings where riding an elevator is almost impossible to avoid in day-to-day life.(由于很多人都有电梯恐惧症,在一些地区可能会有支持团体。这在高楼林立的城市里最为常见,在这些城市里,日常生活中几乎不可能避免乘坐电梯)”可知,上文提到“在这些城市里,日常生活中几乎不可能避免乘坐电梯”,说明在这些地方,对电梯的恐惧会影响日常生活,故F选项“在这些地方,对电梯的恐惧会影响日常活动”符合语境,故选F。
9. 根据上文“For example, someone who is afraid of heights may start by climbing a ladder over and over again.(例如,一个恐高的人可能会一遍又一遍地爬梯子)”以及后文“Next, they move on to a greater height, such as climbing a tree. As they experience greater and greater levels, their fear may become lessened. Finally, they will be able to enter an elevator.(接下来,它们会爬到更高的地方,比如爬树。当他们体验到越来越高水平的高度时,他们的恐惧可能会减少。最后,他们将能够进入电梯)”可知,上文提到了先通过爬梯子来减少恐高,然后再通过爬树灯来克服更高的高度。由此可知,当对爬梯子的恐惧减少后,可以进入下一个挑战。故A选项“他们可以在很少引起焦虑的情况下停止这个过程”符合语境,故选A。
10. 根据上文“Sometimes just stepping into it is a start.(有时候,只是步入电梯就是一个开始)”以及后文“This will likely still cause anxiety the first few times. But they can use methods which work when accomplishing smaller goals. Finally, after many attempts, riding an elevator may not cause anxiety at all.(这可能会在最初几次引起焦虑。但是当他们完成较小的目标时,他们可以使用有效的方法。最后,经过多次尝试,乘坐电梯可能根本不会引起焦虑)”可知,步入电梯是一个开始,但如何要克服电梯恐惧,还需要练习乘坐几层楼,故C选项“在其他时候,他们会被要求乘坐几层楼”符合语境,故选C。

U.N. Report Warns Nature Crisis
A new U.N. report focuses on the negative effects of human activity on nature. It says one million plant and animal species on land, in the seas and in the sky are now in danger of extinction.
The 1,800-page report took three years to finish. 11 The Earth has always suffered from human activity, it says. However, these scratches (划伤) have become deep scars(伤疤) over the past 50 years. Species are going to extinct several hundred times faster than the average rate during the past ten million years. It’s something that has never happened before in human history.
12 Since 1970, the human population has doubled. The global economy has grown by four times. To feed, clothe and give energy to this fast-changing world, lots of forests have been cut down. 13 Furthermore, hunting, overfishing and pollution have also been killing species in great numbers.
The problem can be fixed, the report says. 14 The amount of land and sea that is under protection needs to increase rapidly. The report suggests governments move away from using GDP as a key measure of development. Long-term effects must be considered, too.
Professor Eduardo Brondizio of Indiana University is an author of the report. He says, “We all know what needs to be done. The knowledge is there. 15 ”
A. However, this requires many changes.
B. Over 120 wildlife species are facing extinction.
C. Only experts know how to address the problem.
D. The report listed several causes for the situation.
E. There just needs to be a greater will to take action.

Sometimes, we meet with situations that cause us to feel angry to the point we may want to erupt like a volcano or curse(咒骂) someone out. 1 Here are some replies online to the question about how to deal with anger.
Go for a swim, lift weights, and practice other forms of exercise!
Science suggests that hearing, seeing, or swimming causes our brain to produce neurochemicals that increase blood flow to the brain and heart. “ 2 I like to lift weights. It completely takes the edge off. Heavy bag work is good for cardio and reducing anger. Yoga is great for both exercise and meditation,” wrote u/JackFunk.
Eat a healthier diet.
Proteins such as fish, tofu, and chicken, help us produce higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine, which are chemicals in the brain that play a role in your mood, motivation, and concentration. “I found that some foods messed with my stomach. 3 Over time I have removed various foods from my diet, and it has really helped,” u/JackFunk also wrote.
Write your feelings down.
Whether it’s quick sentences or journal entries, writing down how you feel is a great way to release negative emotions. “ 4 Pour your heart out… and if you’re worried that someone else may read it later, you can burn it to release the energy,” wrote u/ChoiceFabulous.
5
“If you have trouble not getting angry when discussing something or trying to work through a problem with someone, always imagine the conversation is being videotaped. If you keep that in the back of your mind, you will always think about what you say, and it could help keep your mind from the anger,” wrote u/therealtidbits.
A. For me, nothing is better than exercise.
B. Whenever I can’t help getting angry, I read.
C. Pretend that when you get angry people are watching.
D. Whenever I can’t exercise or burn out the feelings, I write.
E. Anyway, there are always better ways to handle when angry.
F. They then messed with my head, which brought out the anger.
G. Pretend there is a camera before you and be mindful of what you say.
E 2. A 3. F 4. D 5. G
1. 根据上文“Sometimes, we meet with situations that cause us to feel angry to the point we may want to erupt like a volcano or curse (咒骂) someone out. (有时,我们会遇到一些情况,使我们感到愤怒,以至于我们可能想像火山一样爆发或诅咒某人。)”可知,虽然人们生气愤怒,但是肯定会有好方法来应对,此处应承上启下,与E项“Anyway, there are always better ways to handle when angry. (尽管如此,生气时总有更好的处理方法。)”上下文一致,符合文意,且better ways与下文的some replies相呼应,故选E项。
2. 根据下文““I like to lift weights. It completely takes the edge off. Heavy bag work is good for cardio and reducing anger. Yoga is great for both exercise and meditation”, wrote u/JackFunk. (“我喜欢举重。它完全消除了边缘。沉重的袋子工作有利于有氧运动和减少愤怒。瑜伽对锻炼和冥想都很好”,JackFunk写道。)”可知,本段主要介绍运动对缓解愤怒的作用,与A项“For me, nothing is better than exercise. (对我来说,没有什么比锻炼更好的了。)上下文一致,符合文意,故选A项。
3. 根据上文“I found that some foods messed with my stomach. (我发现有些食物弄乱了我的胃。)”可知,空处将进一步说明,与F项“They then messed with my head, which brought out the anger. (然后他们弄乱了我的头,这引起了愤怒。)”上下文一致,符合文意,故选F项。
4. 根据下文““Pour your heart out… and if you’re worried that someone else may read it later, you can burn it to release the energy,” wrote u/ChoiceFabulous. (“倾诉衷肠……如果你担心别人以后会读到它,你可以烧掉它来释放能量,”ChoiceFabulous写道。)”可知,本段介绍写作对释放消极情绪的作用,与D项“Whenever I can’t exercise or burn out the feelings, I write. (每当我不能锻炼或倦怠时,我就会写作。)”上下文一致,符合文意,故选D项。
5. 根据下文“If you have trouble not getting angry when discussing something or trying to work through a problem with someone, always imagine the conversation is being videotaped. These four good habits will improve some aspects of your life.
Do one thing at a time
6 . In truth, it’s not the best way to get things done. Instead of jumping from one thing to the next like a ping-pong ball, stick with one task as long as you can. That concentrated time you spend on one thing will be far more productive. 7 .
Create a place for everything
Imagine all things in your home have a place where they live. For example, toys go into a basket when they’re not in use. 8 . If you regularly(定期的) have lots of things that have nowhere to go, it may be time to make some hard choices about what you really want to keep.
9
Get up at the same time every day, preferably all seven days a week. A consistent(一致的) sleep schedule helps form your body’s circadian rhythm(昼夜节律). Sleeping late on the weekends is not bad. But it feels better to get regular rests every day.
Learn how to say no
Saying yes to everything can be a difficult habit to break for most of us. But learning how to draw a line is one of the best things you can do for yourself. You have the power not to agree to help everyone else with their problems. 10 . Your time is just as valuable as everyone else’s.
A. Set a realistic goal
B. Keep a consistent sleep schedule
C. In this way you spare lots of time for yourself
D. If so, tidying up your home gets a whole lot quicker
E. Most of us sometimes do several things at the same time
F. Being efficient with the time you have is crucial for productivity
G. Instead, you will easily feel tired when trying to finish three things meantime
E 7. G 8. D 9. B 10. C
6. 下文“In truth, it’s not the best way to get things done.(事实上,这不是完成事情的最佳方式)”,空处应对应本段标题“Do one thing at a time(一次做一件事)”,并且指出下文it指代的内容,E项“我们大多数人有时同时做几件事”符合语境。故选E项。
8. 上文“Imagine all things in your home have a place where they live. For example, toys go into a basket when they’re not in use. (想象一下,你家里的所有东西都有一个他们居住的地方。例如,玩具不用时会放进篮子里)”指出所有东西要有自己的地方,空处承接上文,D项“如果是这样的话,整理你的家会更快”是对前面句子的顺承,符合语境。故选D项。
9. 空处作为小标题,应概括本段内容,下文第一句“Get up at the same time every day, preferably all seven days a week.A consistent (一致的) sleep schedule helps form your body’s circadian rhythm (昼夜节律). (每天在同一时间起床,最好一周七天都一样。一致的睡眠时间表有助于形成你身体的昼夜节律。)”是对小标题的进一步解释,B项“保持一致的睡眠时间表”跟主题内容一致,符合语境,同时a consistent sleep schedule是同词复现。故选B项。
10. 上文“You have the power not to agree to help everyone else with their problems.(你有权不同意帮助其他人解决他们的问题)”表明你可以向别人说“不”,空处承上启下,下文“Your time is just as valuable as everyone else’s.(你的时间和其他人的时间一样宝贵)”表明你自己的时间也很重要,要留给自己时间,C项“这样你就为自己腾出了很多时间”符合语境。故选C项。

How to add green tech to your home
Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally friendly products. The idea is by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet. 11
Install smart light bulbs
One quick way to reduce energy use is to switch all your light bulbs to energy-efficient versions called smart bulbs and use a virtual assistant to control them. These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers. 12 Just use your phone to shut them down.
13
Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that plugs into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.
Upcycle or recycle your old tech
Tech is everywhere in our homes, and when a device gets old, we tend to replace it with a newer, better, faster version. It’s okay to get the latest device, but why not reuse and repurpose the older ones For example, you can upcycle your old computers and laptops by repurposing them into home security monitors. Got an old Android phone 14
It’s not hard to start adding green tech to your home. 15 Once you start, you’ll quickly see how convenient green tech can be and how easy it is to start using it.
A. Add smart plugs everywhere
B. Forgot to turn off the lights
C. Anyone can achieve it easily.
D. Upcycle it into a remote control for your TV.
E. Upcycle it instead of throwing it into the dust bin.
F. The real difficulty is in deciding to take that first small step today.
G. Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.
G 12. B 13. A 14. D 15. F
11. 根据前文“Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally friendly products. The idea is by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet.(绿色科技是指将技术和科学相结合,创造出对环境友好的产品。这个想法是通过在家里使用产品和服务来减少能源消耗、浪费或对环境的有害影响,我们都可以帮助地球)”可知,本文的主题是介绍绿色科技,以及在家里使用绿色科技来减少能源消耗、浪费或对环境的有害影响,所以G项“Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.(下面是几个快速简单的方法,你可以从今天开始使用)”承接上文,进一步提出本文主题,引出下文。故选G项。
12. 根据前文“These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers.(这些灯泡往往使用7到9.5瓦的功率,却能提供与60瓦普通灯泡相同的亮度)”以及后文“Just use your phone to shut them down.(用手机关掉他们就行了)”可知,前文内容和后文无法连接,所以空处应是一个过渡句,引出下文,B项“Forgot to turn off the lights (忘记关灯了 )”可知,下文是对此句的回答,且是介绍智能灯泡的方便,符合本段主题。故选B项。
13. 分析设空,是本段小标题,应是对本段的高度概括,根据下文“Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that plugs into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.(智能插头也是一个很好的选择,可以用来控制电视、咖啡机或几乎任何可以插在墙上插座上工作的设备。像这样的设备只要插上电源就会消耗能量,所以使用你的手机或虚拟助手根据需要打开或关闭插头有助于阻止能量的消耗)”可知,本段主要讲述在家里使用智能插头,所以A项“Add smart plugs everywhere(到处添加智能插头)”符合本段主题,为本段小标题。故选A项。

What’ s a micro activity I consider this question about the word “micro” whenever it appears.
21 Quite literally, it means “extremely small”. But in this article, a micro activity will refer to something which takes up no more than five minutes of your time.
The following recommendations are micro activities you should do for your body.
Self-Massage(自我按摩)
Self-massaging should become a part of your daily musts. 22 As we get older, our muscles (肌肉) tighten. But if we self-massage, these muscles will feel cared for. According to the Mayo Clinic, massage can reduce stress and increase relaxation.
Intensive Exercise
There are many benefits of intensive exercise(高强度运动). And do you know what else it does for your body It makes your body realize it can do so much more. In less than five minutes, the goal is to break a sweat. This can be from running or lifting weights. 23
Let Loose
Whether it be dancing, skipping or something else, our body should do whatever it feels like doing without judgment. 24 Thus we will feel happy and relaxed.
Be Still
25 Your body loves movement. But we must find a few moments of stillness throughout our day. By devoting ourselves to more stillness, we can find ourselves more at peace and less stressed even under hard circumstances.
A. Did you regret doing it
B. What does it really mean
C. Don’t give yourself too much pressure.
D. It should be as necessary as brushing your teeth or taking a shower.
E. Every activity involves some sort of movement.
F. The playful nature helps bring out the inner child and promotes creativity and joy.

22. 上文“Self-massaging should become a part of your daily musts.(自我按摩应该成为你日常必备的一部分。)” D选项“It should be as necessary as brushing your teeth or taking a shower.(这应该和刷牙或洗澡一样必要。)”

This can be from running or lifting weights.(在不到五分钟的时间里,我们的目标是流汗。 G选项“It doesn’t matter which activity you choose, so long as you bring intensity to that workout.(你选择哪项运动并不重要,只要你能给训练带来强度。)”

Sandstorms are among the most violent natural disasters. High winds lift dirt or sand into the air, causing damage, injuries, and deaths. 26
27 If you have a mask, put it on immediately. If you don’t have one, wrap a piece of cloth tightly around your head to protect your nose and mouth.
Look for shelter(避难所). Even a parked car will do, so long as it is off the road and not in danger of getting hit. Sand will fly around when it hits objects. 28 If you cannot get to shelter, try to stay low to the ground and protect your head with your arms, a backpack or a pillow.
Protect yourself from flying objects. Look for a large rock to cover as much of your body as possible. 29 Flying sand can hurt, but a dust storm’s high winds can also carry heavier (more dangerous) objects.
Wait out the storm. 30 It’s much too dangerous. Stay where you are and wait for it to pass before you attempt to move to a different location. If you can quickly reach such shelter before a dust storm reaches you, get there as quickly as possible and stay inside. Close all windows and doors, and wait out the storm.
A. Cover your nose and mouth.

Four Tips to Discover Your True Passion
True passion is the emotion, feeling, and desire that arises out of love for something. It’s the force that magnifies(放大) your capabilities for the benefit of excellent performance. This is because it’s a powerful motivation for best performance and everyone wants to get there. 36 Finding what you’re passionate about is a long road that requires effort and the following are some useful tips.
Search your childhood.
The purity and truth of your being are in the early stages of life. To that end, going back to the things you loved back then is always an excellent indication of marked preferences. Did you want to be a doctor 37 These are all clues that begin to point the way. While it’s true that children have several preferences in their early stages, it’s actually quite easy to figure out which they prioritize(优先考虑).
Experiment and discover.
Doing the same activities day after day closes any probabilities to succeed in finding your true passion. 38 This creates a trial-and-error scenario(设想) that promotes a positive outcome in less time.
Focus to find your true passion.
You must forget about the myth that doing what you’re passionate about will be easy and pleasant. This is because there’ll always be inconveniences in any activity you undertake. Beyond that, don’t lose focus on the fact that these are temporary moments. 39
Remember that your age doesn’t matter.
40 Encouraging yourself to take the first step can be difficult due to some of society’s obsolete(被淘汰的) barriers. The truth is that you must allow yourself to achieve and show your tastes leaving aside any obstacles, especially those that are self-imposed(自己强加的). It’s never too late!

B. Take a variety of courses each month.
C. Do you know the meaning of passion

(2023浙江宁波高一上期末)An earthquake happens when two plates rub together. The earth plates travel in different directions and at different speeds. 51 In other words, earthquakes are the shaking of the earth’s surface caused by the earth’s rocky outer layer. The energy stored within is suddenly released.
The damage an earthquake causes depends on where it is and when it is happening. If an unpopulated region is struck, there will be low loss of life or property. 52 Many of the areas at risk are largely populated now. Major earthquakes hitting those areas today could produce terrible damage.
53 Fortunately, however, most of them are unnoticed to the public because of the small Richter scale(震级). But large earthquakes such as the 1964 Alaskan quake that measured 9.2 on the Richter scale, can cause millions of dollars in damage.
54 In 1972, a series of severe earthquakes struck Managua, Nicaragua. Fifteen years later, the city still looked the way it had a week after the earthquake hit, because the city was in such a mess that it didn’t have the money necessary to rebuild it.
The shaking of the earth is sometimes not the greatest disaster. 55 In the 1906 earthquake, it was the fires caused after it that did the majority of the damage. An earthquake can also destroy dams high above a city or valleys, causing floods to sweep away everything in their path.
A. Actually, there are several million small earthquakes every year.
B. It is in the fires and floods that often the greatest damage occurs.
C. Throughout history, there are numerous destructive big earthquakes.
D. If it hits a large city, there may be many injuries and much destruction.
E. So it is of great importance to predict the movements of the earth plates.
F. If one plate is slowly forced under the other, pressure builds up until the plates break apart.
G. The destructive damage of an earthquake can continue for years after the first shake.

A tsunami is an extremely large wave in the sea caused by an earthquake at the sea bed. The following safety tips may help you deal with it.
Before the tsunami
Know the warning signs of a tsunami: rapidly rising or falling coastal waters, a loud noise from the ocean, or rumblings of an earthquake. “If people along the Indian Ocean coastline on December 26, 2004, were aware of these natural warnings, fewer people would have died.” says an expert. 56 And you’d better map your evacuation(疏散) route.
During the tsunami
● If you’re in a tsunami area and there is an earthquake, first drop to the floor, cover your head and neck, and hold on to something stable. 57
● 58 “Listen to the authorities, but do not wait for tsunami warnings and evacuation orders,” suggests the U.S. site Ready.gov.
● People often mistake the distance they have to go to be safe. “Many people think they’ve got to go miles,” Richards says. “ 59 ” If you’re a visitor staying in a tall concrete hotel, he adds, going above the fourth floor likely will be safer than evacuating.
● Stay put in a safe area until an official all-clear is given. The first wave may not be the last or the strongest and the danger can last for hours or even days.
After the tsunami
First, stay clear of damaged or flooded areas and downed power lines. Meanwhile, listen for further alerts and instructions about evacuation zones and shelters. 60 Phone systems are likely to be down or busy at that time.
A. But it might be just right behind Johnny’s house.
B. But they can also come back as soon as possible.
C. If you’re in a low-lying area, move inland as soon as possible.

9
Get up at the same time every day, preferably all seven days a week. A consistent(一致的) sleep schedule helps form your body’s circadian rhythm(昼夜节律). Sleeping late on the weekends is not bad. But it feels better to get regular rests every day.

According to A Guide for Families by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, children, preteens, and teens can lie for varying reasons. 31 Their upsetting situations could include failing a class. and other struggles with things about themselves or fitting in with their peers.
32 . This is not to say that lying is acceptable, but the less parents take it personally, the more they can calmly and constructively help their child. Children and teens who fall into anxiety easily will use lying as an unhealthy coping strategy.
What should a parent or caregiver do Try to keep in mind that kids can be quite self-absorbed and they often don’t understand how hurtful lies can be. With this in mind, here are a few tips to help promote truthfulness in your child at any age.
33 If you overreact, then you are just building a barrier between you and your child, Calmly discuss or lecture about honesty and dishonesty and why they chose to lie. 34 Your understanding may not be able to stop your teen from creating those everyday lies, but you can convey that there are other options available.
Keep in mind that addressing lying behaviours is a process not a quick fix. 35 But if you keep your own emotion positively, your child or teen is more likely to eventually open up.
While in the short term you may just get a shrug, keeping yourself calm to create a sense of emotional safety will help your voice of truth and reason be heard throughout their lives.
A. Get them to know that you understand them or their situations.
B. Try to seek some help from experts who understand them well.
C. Some kids may take a while before they feel safe to level with you.
D. When I coach parents, I help them learn not to take lies from their kids personally.
E. They try to avoid getting into trouble or lie because they are too upset to talk about painful experiences.
F. Lying is not only harmful to kids then selves, but also it hurts people around them.
G. The best you can do as a parent is to keep yourself from overreacting to your child’s lies.

A. Were you interested in insects
B. Take a variety of courses each month.
C. Do you know the meaning of passion
D. Age isn’t necessary to find out your true passion.
E. Be calm while finding out your motivation.
F. It’s vital to figure out what you’re passionate about.
G. Understanding this will make it easier to keep motivated.

D. Take the warnings seriously, and strictly follow the requirements.
E. Listen for official warnings, but also listen and watch for natural signs.
F. Besides, you should be familiar with your government’s warning system.
G. You’d better use texts and social media to communicate with loved ones.

How to Survive a Tsunami
A tsunami is a series of destructive and dangerous waves that are typically caused by earthquakes. If you live in a tsunami hazard region, make sure you know what to do in the unfortunate event of a tsunami. 61
1. Evacuate on foot if possible.
Bridges and roads might be damaged or blocked after an earthquake. Whether there is an official tsunami warning or you live in a tsunami hazard zone and an earthquake just happened, immediately start moving on foot. 62 This helps you avoid getting stuck in a car in a dangerous location.
2. 63
In some cases, you might not have time to evacuate. If you don’t have time to get away, go up to a third floor or higher in a strong building. Even better, try to get on the roof of the tallest, strongest building you can find. If you’re right on the coast, there might be a tall tsunami evacuation tower nearby. Look for evacuation route signs and follow them to the tower, then climb to the top.
3. Grab something floating if you’re in the water.
This can help keep you safe if you get caught by a tsunami’s waves. 64 Grab the object and hold on tightly while you get carried by the waves.
4. 65
Tsunami activity can continue for up to 8 hours or longer. Stay away from the coast and on high ground for this period to play it safe. Listen to announcements from officials and only move when they say it’s safe to do so.
You may be stressed out and worried about loved ones, but you must stay where you are and try to remain calm. Don’t put your life at risk to try to meet up with someone in another area.
A. Look for a boat to stay on.
B. Walk or run towards safety quickly.
C. Stay in your safe spot for at least 8 hours.
D. Climb to the top of a building if you are trapped.
E. Here are some ways to react and survive a tsunami.
F. Look for something strong like a tree, a door or a life raft.
G. Join the rescue team in order to search for your loved ones.

How to Survive a Tsunami on the Beach
The word tsunami is from Japanese. It describes a series of waves that can reach over 100 feet tall and travel at speeds up to 600 miles per hour across the sea. A single wave in a tsunami can be quite long, as much as 60 miles, causing great damage. 66
Your best chance for surviving a tsunami on a beach is to pay attention to the warning signs, stay away from the shore after an earthquake, and get to high land. Then wait for information from disaster response groups.
67 With your family, discuss how you’ll reach the evacuation area (紧急疏散区) as soon as possible.
The sooner you know a tsunami is coming the better your chance of making it to higher ground. 68
·Head for high ground, get at least 100 feet above sea level.
· 69
·Don’t swim against the current.
As you learn how to survive a tsunami, remember the first wave in a series of waves is the smallest and weakest. 70 If you’re in a boat at the beach, head out into the ocean. You’ll stand a better chance away of survival away from the shoreline.
A. That’s why it’s crucial to know how to survive a Tsunami.
B. Grab something like a tree or something that float, like a raft.
C. The waves following an earthquake may continue for hours or up to a day.
D. That’s why it’s essential to learn the early warning signs to survive a tsunami.
E. If it’s too late, and the water’s already rising, here’s what to do in a tsunami.
F. Your best chance for surviving a tsunami on a beach is to pay attention to the warning signs.
G. Whether you’re visiting or living in a tsunami zone, learn where the closest place is out of the tsunami’s reach.

A flood can develop slowly, over time or rapidly, as in the case of flash floods which can develop in just a few minutes and without signs of rain.
71 This is the first thing that a person should do. It is unwise to just depend on history to decide whether your area is at risk of flooding.
Create an evacuation plan in case you have to evacuate your home. Pay attention to the safe areas you can go to. Prepare food kits for natural disasters that you can easily take with you if you have to leave your house. 72
If there is a possibility of a flash flood, leave your home and move to higher ground at once. Do not wait for instructions to move. Evacuation may also cause a shortage in the food supply. 73 To survive, one must depend on food storage.
While evacuating, avoid walking through moving water. Even six inches of moving water can make you fall. If you have to walk in water, walk where the water is not moving. 74
Do not drive into flooded areas. If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon (舍弃) the car and move to higher ground, when water is not moving or not more than a few inches deep. 75 If your car is trapped in rapidly moving water, stay in the car. If the water is rising inside the car, move on to the roof (顶部).
A. They don’t know where to look for shelter.
B. You and the car can be swept away quickly.
C. Use a stick to check the ground in front of you.
D. Be aware if the area you’re at is at risk of a flood.
E. There is no telling when another flood may happen.
F. It would help to store food for emergency situations.
G. During these conditions, hunger becomes a very real problem.

Landslides occur when large amounts of wet debris(碎片), including rocks, earth, and trees, slide down a slope(斜坡). They may occur as a result of fires, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, storms, or human activities. Landslides are particularly dangerous because they strike suddenly, move at extremely high speeds, and travel long distances. Although landslides are often difficult to predict, you can prepare for a landslide. 76
1. Keep yourself alert and awake. Landslides can occur quite suddenly, so you need to be ready to take action at a moment’s notice. Many landslide-related deaths occur while people are asleep. 77
2. 78 Your local community should have a designated(指定的) public shelter. Go to the shelter if your home is unsafe or the authorities have called for an evacuation(疏散).
3. Contact local officials about past landslides. Landslides tend to happen in the same area where they have occurred before. 79 If you are in an at-risk area, consider getting a site analysis of your property. This will help you determine any necessary corrective measures.
4. Make an emergency kit(工具箱). 80 Make your kit in advance so it is ready at a moment’s notice. Your kit should contain enough food and water to last for at least 72 hours, as well as supplies like medications, flashlights, batteries, cell phones, copies of personal documents, and cash.
A. Notice unusual sounds.
B. Go to a public shelter.
C. Here are some tips which can help you.
D. Talk to local officials about landslides in your area.
E. In the event of a landslide or other emergency, choose a place.
F. If you are with other people, work together to keep one another awake.
G. An emergency kit contains the essentials that your household will need during an emergency.
