Using voice interaction makes people feel much kinder than surfing the net in the old way. The voice of the assistant makes us feel like talking to a real person. But if something speaks, it must also listen. Our phones are always near us and they are constantly collecting our personal information. This has already raised privacy concerns.
When you are driving or cooking, the voice assistant will be helpful. On the other hand, in a quiet library, using voice assistants to do something may not be as suitable as typing, as it could disturb others. The effectiveness of using voice depends on the specific surroundings.
A.But who can use the spoken web
B.But what are the challenges of moving to the spoken web
C.It is also possible to help teachers give lessons.
D.The benefits of using voice obviously depend on the situation you are in.
E.The voice of the assistant makes us feel like talking to a real person.

The effectiveness of using voice depends on the specific surroundings. 故D选项“The benefits of using voice obviously depend on the situation you are in.(使用语音的好处显然取决于您所处的环境。)”

Being the bridge of communication between cultures is a great feeling, and the joy you’ll get from helping someone in need will make all the hard work of learning the language worth it.(在世界各地的志愿者项目中,会说多种语言的人对团队来说很有价值。

2.由上文“They mustn’t be distracted with their cellphone, or a conversation with another adult. They must take that role very seriously. (他们不能因为手机或与其他成年人的谈话而分心。他们必须非常认真地对待这一角色)”可知,监管人必须认真对待监督游泳安全一事,再结合下文“More children aged 1 to 4 die from drowning (溺水) than any other causes of death. (死于溺水的1至4岁儿童比任何其他死因都多)”可知溺水是1至4岁儿童死亡的主因,可得出稍有不慎,孩子瞬间之内就会溺水,A选项“溺水可能在瞬间发生”切合语境。故选A项。

Desire for success is a basic human nature. But hurdles are bound to come up on the way to success, discouraging you from your goal. 1 Here are some ways that may help you to be diligent and write your own success story.
First of all, having a clear vision is essential to be diligent in life. If you are not clear about what you want to achieve in life, you will lose direction, motivation and enthusiasm in life. 2 So if you want to gain diligence, you should make an effort to define your vision.
3 Proper planning enables us to turn most of the goals into reality without regrets in later part of life. Having a plan in advance, though, does not mean that you have to plan from start to finish. It means you should know in which direction you are heading.
Moreover, excuses are not going to keep you away from regrets in your later life. If you delay diligence because of your family responsibility, it simply means your goals are not in your priority list, which is why excuses are coming. 4 .
Finally, diligence is not the birthright of some privileged people but an option. 5 . Otherwise, you might unconsciously develop the habit of not being serious about bigger tasks as well. So now is the right time to start striving to be diligent in everything you do and ensure your success.
A.You have to be brave when encountering hurdles.
B.On the other hand, if you are, you will stay diligent.
C.You need to practice diligence even for the smallest task.
D.In fact, only those who are diligent can overcome them.
E.Diligence is the application of persistent effort on a task.
F.It is of the same importance to have a specific plan beforehand.
G.So follow your dreams with no excuse to live a happy and successful life.
1.根据上文“But hurdles are bound to come up on the way to success, discouraging you from your goal.”(但是,在通往成功的道路上必然会遇到障碍,阻碍你实现目标。)以及下文“Here are some ways that may help you to be diligent and write your own success story.”(这里有一些方法可以帮助你变得勤奋,让你书写自己的成功故事。) D. In fact, only those who are diligent can overcome them.(事实上,只有那些勤奋的人才能克服它们。)
2.根据上文“First of all, having a clear vision is essential to be diligent in life. If you are not clear about what you want to achieve in life, you will lose direction, motivation and enthusiasm in life.”(首先,在生活中,有一个清晰的愿景是勤奋必不可少的因素。 B项中的On the other hand与上文形成对比, if you are省略了clear about what you want to achieve in life。所以B. On the other hand, if you are, you will stay diligent.
3.根据下文“Proper planning enables us to turn most of the goals into reality without regrets in later part of life. Having a plan in advance, though, does not mean that you have to plan from start to finish. It means you should know in which direction you are heading.”(适当的计划能让我们把大部分的目标变成现实,在以后的生活中没有遗憾。 It is of the same importance to have a specific plan beforehand.(事先有一个具体的计划也是同样重要的。)
4.根据上文“Moreover, excuses are not going to keep you away from regrets in your later life. If you delay diligence because of your family responsibility, it simply means your goals are not in your priority list, which is why excuses are coming.”(此外,借口并不能让你在以后的生活中远离遗憾。 G. So follow your dreams with no excuse to live a happy and successful life.(所以,追随你的梦想吧,不要找借口,去过幸福成功的生活。)
5.根据下文“Otherwise, you might unconsciously develop the habit of not being serious about bigger tasks as well.”(否则,你可能会无意识地养成不认真对待大任务的习惯。) C. You need to practice diligence even for the smallest task.(你需要练习勤奋,即使是最小的任务。)

Risks of Overtraining
Getting in shape and training for an event such as a marathon requires long-lasting and intense physical commitment. 11 But the truth is, sometimes the very acts we do to get healthy can actually push us past our physical limits.
Specifically, overtraining is a set of signs that occur when your body is not able to recover sufficiently before going into your next workout. 12 People tend to ignore them. Over time, the cycle of starting the next training session before allowing recovery causes breakdown of the very parts of the body that you work so hard to build up.
The structures and systems of your body adapt to the demands you have placed on them before the rest time. If your workout slightly goes beyond your current ability, it will adapt toward what you did in a positive way. 13
Two main factors are necessary in recovery: nutrition. and rest. Good nutrition, including water and protein intake, is extremely important, especially within 40 minutes of your workout. 14 Your body uses the nutrients you have given it during the rest time. especially sleep, to strengthen.
One of the best ways to prevent overtraining is to focus on your morning resting heart rate. 15 Generally, you will detect an increase in your heart rate before the other signs show up. Tracking it in a log can be a great way to monitor your recovery.
A.It's easy to measure and track.
B.Allowing time for recovery is also essential.
C.The problem is that they show up very gradually.
D.Below are the signs and symptoms of overtraining.
E.Listening to your body will assure you of your fitness goals.
F.If far beyond, it'll take longer to adapt and may cause injury.
G.We generally assume regular intense exercise good for our health.
【答案】11.G 12.C 13.F 14.B 15.A

11.根据下文“But the truth is, sometimes the very acts we do to get healthy can actually push us past our physical limits.(但事实是,有时我们为了健康而做的事情实际上会让我们超越身体的极限)”可知,选项与下文为转折关系,说明人们关于高强度运动队健康的一般看法。
12.根据上文“Specifically, overtraining is a set of signs that occur when your body is not able to recover sufficiently before going into your next workout.(具体来说,过度训练是当你的身体无法在下一次锻炼前充分恢复时出现的一系列迹象)”以及下文“People tend to ignore them.(人们往往会忽略它们)”可知,迹象出现的较为缓慢。
13.根据上文“If your workout slightly goes beyond your current ability, it will adapt toward what you did in a positive way.(如果你的锻炼稍微超出了你目前的能力,它会以一种积极的方式适应你所做的)”可知,选项承接上文说明锻炼严重超出了你目前的能力,会导致的结果。
14.根据下文“Your body uses the nutrients you have given it during the rest time. especially sleep, to strengthen.(你的身体会利用你在休息时间给它的营养,尤其是要加强睡眠)”可知,要给恢复留出时间。

Many people feel anxious in situations that are stressful to them. For example, they may feel anxious about taking tests, meeting new people, or speaking in class. 16 But it’s best to learn how to cope. Here are several tips that can help you through anxious moments:
Start with a “growth” mindset. Some people have a fixed mindset. They might think, “This is how I am.” 17 They think they are the way they are. But brain science has shown that with a growth mindset, people can get better at just about everything—with effort and practice. That includes reducing anxiety.
18 When you’re anxious, you might tell yourself things like, “I can’t do this!” or “What if I mess this up ” Instead, plan to tell yourself something that could help you face the moment with a bit of courage like, “I can do this!” or “It’s OK to feel anxious. I can do this anyway.”
Notice how anxiety affects your body. When you’re anxious, do you feel “butterflies” in your stomach Sweaty palms Shaky hands A faster heartbeat These physical feelings can be uncomfortable but they aren’t harmful. You can cope. You don’t have to push the feelings away. 19
Face the situation—don’t wait for anxiety to go away. You might think that you’ll put off speaking in class or talking to that new person until you no longer feel anxious about it. But it doesn’t work that way. 20
Learning to cope with anxiety takes time, patience, and practice. Most of all it takes being willing to face anxiety. Start with one small step. The more you practice, the better you’ll get at lowering anxiety.
A.Talk yourself through it.
B.Tell a parent or another adult you trust.
C.It’s facing the anxiety that helps you lower it.
D.Try to pay attention to anxious thoughts and feelings.
E.Try to notice them without getting upset that they’re there.
F.With a fixed mindset, people don’t think things can change.
G.If you feel anxious in situations like these, you’re not alone.
【答案】16.G 17.F 18.A 19.E 20.C
16.根据前文“Many people feel anxious in situations that are stressful to them. For example, they may feel anxious about taking tests, meeting new people, or speaking in class.(许多人在有压力的情况下会感到焦虑。例如,他们可能会对考试、结识新朋友或在课堂上发言感到焦虑)”以及后文“But it’s best to learn how to cope.(但最好学会如何应对)”可知,G项“If you feel anxious in situations like these, you’re not alone.(如果你在这种情况下感到焦虑,你并不孤单)”承接上文,“you’re not alone”与上文相呼应,并和下文构成转折关系。故选G项。
17.根据前文“Some people have a fixed mindset. They might think, “This is how I am.”(有些人有固定的心态。他们可能会想,“我就是这样的人。”)”可知,此处在讲述固定心态的人,所以F项“With a fixed mindset, people don’t think things can change.(有了固定的心态,人们就不会认为事情可以改变)”是对固定心态的人进一步说明,符合此处主题。故选F项。
18.分析设空,位于段首,应是本段中心句,根据后文“When you’re anxious, you might tell yourself things like, “I can’t do this!” or “What if I mess this up ” Instead, plan to tell yourself something that could help you face the moment with a bit of courage like, “I can do this!” or “It’s OK to feel anxious. I can do this anyway.”(当你焦虑的时候,你可能会告诉自己,“我做不到!”或者“如果我搞砸了怎么办 ”相反,计划告诉自己一些可以帮助你鼓起勇气面对这一时刻的话,比如,“我能做到!”或者“感到焦虑是正常的。反正我也能做到。”)”可知,本段讲述要说服自己克服焦虑,所以A项“Talk yourself through it.(说服自己克服它)”符合文意,为本段小标题。故选A项。
19.分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Notice how anxiety affects your body. When you’re anxious, do you feel “butterflies” in your stomach Sweaty palms Shaky hands A faster heartbeat These physical feelings can be uncomfortable but they aren’t harmful. You can cope. You don’t have to push the feelings away.(注意焦虑如何影响你的身体。当你焦虑的时候,你会感到“蝴蝶”在你的胃里吗 手心出汗吗 摇摇欲坠的手 心跳加快 这些身体上的感觉可能会让人不舒服,但它们并没有害处。你可以应付。你不必把这种感觉推开)”可知,焦虑时,身体会有反应,但是可以不必把这种感觉推开,所以E项“Try to notice them without getting upset that they’re there.(试着去注意他们,不要因为他们的存在而感到不安)”承接上文,符合文意。故选E项。
20.分析设空,位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Face the situation—don’t wait for anxiety to go away. You might think that you’ll put off speaking in class or talking to that new person until you no longer feel anxious about it. But it doesn’t work that way.(面对现实——不要坐等焦虑消失。你可能会认为你会推迟在课堂上讲话或与陌生人交谈,直到你不再感到焦虑。但事实并非如此)”可知,此处讲述逃避焦虑是不能解决问题的,所以C项“It’s facing the anxiety that helps you lower it.(面对焦虑能帮助你降低焦虑)”提出了切实可行的方法,承接上文。故选C项。

Holiday Eating to Boost Immunity
People don’t generally use the words health and holiday eating in the same sentence, and when they do, 21 . Holidays are often a time of indulgence (放纵), even for people who are usually careful about their diets for the rest of the year. During the holidays we’re more likely to be served with and indulge in foods that are sweet or salty, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. These things can cause inflammation (炎症) in the body. 22 .
There’s more to holiday eating than avoiding too many calories. What we eat affects the health of the entire body, including the immune system. Most of the body’s immune system is concentrated in the gut (内脏) and the trillions of healthy bacteria living there called the microbiome, which might make you more possible to get sick. A lot of people don’t think about the effects of what they eat on immunity. 23 . And it’s especially important in winter, since the winter holidays occur around the time when illnesses like colds, flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses peak.
While an occasional indulgence probably won’t cause lasting damage, throwing caution to the wind from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day is certainly unhealthy. 24 . “Even just a month of really just blowing it and not caring about nutrition can impact the microbiome, ”says Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian at Cleveland Clinic’s department of wellness and preventive medicine. To keep your immune system functioning efficiently, 25 . Just celebrate a little smarter and you can still enjoy yourself!
A.But scientists think it’s crucial
B.you don’t have to stop celebrating
C.your immune system is overburdened
D.that may be especially true at holiday time
E.it’s usually to express a worry about weight gain
F.So it will potentially weaken the functioning of the immune system
G.What we eat has a direct impact on how the immune system functions
【答案】21.E 22.F 23.A 24.G 25.B
22.空处位于段末,应承接上;上文“During the holidays we’re more likely to be served with and indulge in foods that are sweet or salty, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. These things can cause inflammation (炎症) in the body.(在假期里,我们更有可能吃到甜的或咸的食物,当然,还有酒精饮料。这些东西会引起体内炎症)”提到,过甜、过咸活含酒精的食物会引起体内炎症,F项“这可能会削弱免疫系统的功能”与上文形成因果关系,故选F。
23.根据上文“A lot of people don’t think about the effects of what they eat on immunity.(很多人都没有考虑到他们吃的东西对免疫力的影响)”和下文“And it’s especially important in winter(这在冬天尤其重要)”可知,空处应是与上文形成转折关系,指出人们吃的东西对免疫力很重要,A项“但是科学家们认为这一点尤其重要”符合语境,故选A。
24.上文“While an occasional indulgence probably won’t cause lasting damage, throwing caution to the wind from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day is certainly unhealthy.(虽然偶尔的放纵可能不会造成持久的伤害,但从感恩节到元旦把谨慎抛到一边肯定是不健康的)”提到,偶尔的放纵可能不会造成持久的伤害,下文“Even just a month of really just blowing it and not caring about nutrition can impact the microbiome(使只有一个月的时间,不关心营养,也会影响微生物群)”指出长时间不注意营养,会影响微生物群,由此可推知我们吃的东西很重要,G项“我们吃什么会直接影响到免疫系统的功能”符合语境,故选G。
25.根据空前“To keep your immune system functioning efficiently(为了让你的免疫系统有效运作)”和下文“Just celebrate a little smarter and you can still enjoy yourself!(只是庆祝得聪明一点,你仍然可以享受自己)”可知,不必停止庆祝活动,但要更明智的吃东西,这样免疫系统才能有效运转。

Hard work has been part of every laureate’s journey towards the Nobel Prize. Many examples. Francoise Barré-Sinoussi spent time in the lab on the morning of her wedding. After Michael Brown’s first daughter was born, he went straight back to discuss the next day’s experiments. Early-career scientists often ask laureates (获奖者) about work-life balance. 31
Spend time with your family and friends. Many laureates stress the value of maintaining personal relationships. Doctor Brian Kobilka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. 32 However, despite a heavy workload, he also made time for his family. As Brian Kobilka explains, family provides essential support.
Sleep well at night. 33 It is therefore tempting to finish work before health-promoting activities. However, this is a trap which Oliver Smithies advises against. Not only is sleep needed to stay healthy, but your brain needs sleep to function at full capacity so you can generate ideas and solve problems.
34 Family, work and sleep are all important to a scientist’s success. But they don’t all have to be a constant focus. Sometimes it will be important to avoid maintaining everything at a high level. Don’t be daunted by the idea you have to do everything perfectly at once — you can have a different focus at different times.
Don’t work too hard. Ultimately, working too hard won’t be beneficial. Not only do you risk burning yourself out, but you are also restricted in your thinking. Taking time away from work can allow you to approach problems in a new way. 35 Laureates often point out that working long hours doesn’t always lead to efficiency.
A.My solutions may be of some help.
B.Their answers can be enlightening.
C.Focus on different aspects of your life.
D.Never hesitate to bravely rise to challenge.
E.Sleep, exercise and eating well can all conflict with working long hours.
F.He would moonlight in an emergency room as well as working in the lab.
G.Going for a walk, for example, gives you the chance to take a step back and see things differently.

31.上文“Hard work has been part of every laureate’s journey towards the Nobel Prize. Many examples…. Early-career scientists often ask laureates (获奖者) about work-life balance.( 努力工作是每位获奖者迈向诺贝尔奖之路的一部分。……早期职业科学家经常向获奖者询问工作与生活的平衡.)”说明,获得诺贝尔奖是需要努力工作的,但是工作和生活不容易取得平衡,结合下文每段的首句可知,下文讲述了诺贝尔获奖者维持生活和工作平衡的策略,因此推断,B项“他们的回答很有启发性。”符合语境,承上启下。故选B。
32.根据首句“Spend time with your family and friends. Many laureates stress the value of maintaining personal relationships.(花时间与家人和朋友在一起。)”可知,本段建议花时间与家人和朋友在一起,结合空前一句“Doctor Brian Kobilka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.( 布赖恩·科比尔卡博士被授予诺贝尔化学奖。)”可知,此处举例说明与家人和朋友在一起的价值,下文“However, despite a heavy workload, he also made time for his family. (然而,尽管工作繁重,他也抽出时间陪伴家人。)”说明布赖恩·科比尔卡博士也会做一些实验室外的事情,因此推断F项“除了在实验室工作外,他还会在急诊室兼职。”符合语境,故选F。
33.根据段落首句“Sleep well at night.( 晚上睡个好觉。)”可知,本段建议晚上好好休息,睡个好觉,下文“However, this is a trap which Oliver Smithies advises against. Not only is sleep needed to stay healthy, but your brain needs sleep to function at full capacity so you can generate ideas and solve problems.(然而,这是奥利弗·史密斯所反对的陷阱。睡眠不仅是保持健康所必需的,而且你的大脑也需要睡眠来充分发挥功能,这样你才能产生想法并解决问题。)”说明了睡眠与工作并不冲突,However表示前后文是转折关系,因此推断E项“睡眠、锻炼和饮食都可能与长时间工作相冲突。”符合语境,故选E。
34.空处为段落标题。根据下文“Family, work and sleep are all important to a scientist’s success. But they don’t all have to be a constant focus. Sometimes it will be important to avoid maintaining everything at a high level. Don’t be daunted by the idea you have to do everything perfectly at once-you can have a different focus at different times.(家庭、工作和睡眠对科学家的成功都很重要。但它们不需要一直关注。有时候,避免将所有内容都维持在高级别上是很重要的。不要被你必须一次把每件事都做得完美的想法吓倒——你可以在不同的时间有不同的关注点。)”可知,家庭,工作和睡眠都重要,不需要一直关注所有的内容,也不必把每件事都做得完美,可以在不同的时间有不同的关注点,因此推断C项“关注生活的不同方面。”为最佳标题,概况本段主旨,故选C。
35.上文“Taking time away from work can allow you to approach problems in a new way.( 从工作中抽出时间可以让你以一种新的方式处理问题。)”说明可以从工作中抽出一些时间放松,下文“Laureates often point out that working long hours doesn’t always lead to efficiency.(诺贝尔奖得主经常指出,长时间工作并不总是带来效率。)”

Winter can cause damage to your skin, and it can feel like there’s no escape. 36 Happily, there are many ways to deal with dry skin and keep yourself comfortable.
Use a humidifier (加湿器) to increase humidity.
In the cooler winter months, a humidifier in your home or office will restore moisture to the air, helping to keep your skin hydrated (含水的).
Run a humidifier in your entire home or in rooms you spend the most time in, and aim to keep indoor humidity levels between 30 and 50 percent. 37 If you’re unsure of your home’s humidity levels, you can buy a humidity meter.
Keep thermostat (恒温器) temperatures cool and comfortable.
If you’re looking to escape dry, cold outdoor air, you are likely to turn on the heat as soon as you get home. 38 Try a cool yet comfortable setting to prevent your skin from drying further-the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology recommends 68 to 75 degrees F.
39
Long, steamy showers may sound like a great idea when it’s cold, but very hot water can dry out the skin. A 5-to 10-minute warm shower is less likely to worsen dry skin than a hot one.
You should also avoid using excessively hot water to wash your hands. Dry skin from exposure to hot water or cool winter air can cause an eczema (湿疹). 40
If you still experience dryness, discomfort, and redness after trying these healthy skin tips, experts suggest using an over-the-counter I percent hydrocortisone cream or talking with your doctor.
A.Firstly, apply hand cream after each washing.
B.It’s quite unusual to find your skin red and dry in winter.
C.One option is to turn it on overnight while you’re sleeping.
D.Lower water temperatures for showering and hand-washing.
E.But high central heat can make the air in your house even drier.

B.you don’t have to stop celebrating
C.your immune system is overburdened
D.that may be especially true at holiday time
E.it’s usually to express a worry about weight gain

Taking time away from work can allow you to approach problems in a new way. 35 Laureates often point out that working long hours doesn’t always lead to efficiency.
