One teacher praises a student by saying, “You're so smart!” Another teacher says, “You must have worked really hard at this!” Which student does better in school Studies show that students who hear the words of the second teacher will do better. Those students are learning that their effort is important.
Psychologists(心理学家) looked at what students did after they were given different types of praise. Some students were told that they were good at a task. They didn't try very hard the next time. Other students were told that they had worked hard at a task. They worked even harder the next time. The first group of students was learning that they had a set amount of skill. They didn't think they could do any better. This is called a fixed mindset(思维模式). The second group was learning that they could do better if they kept trying. This is called a growth mindset. People who have a growth mindset believe that the brain can grow; people can do better and learn new skills. If they work hard, they can be successful.
How can teachers and parents help students succeed They can focus mainly on effort and not simply on ability. When students succeed, teachers and parents should praise the actual work rather than intelligence(智力) or talent. When students fail, they should be told how they can do better. Teachers, parents and students need to value effort, not intelligence.

What did people do to communicate in ancient times Here are some very interesting answers to this question.
Alphorns(阿尔卑斯长号角) were once used to communicate in the mountains in Switzerland. They are very long and they are very heavy, too. So, alphorns are hard work to blow. Then why use them Well, they make a loud sound which travels much further than the human voice. Herdsmen(牧民) used them to call cows in the distance for milking. At sunset, alphorns were also used to send a message down to villagers that all was well. These days, they're mostly used as musical instruments.
The people of La Gomera, an island in Europe, have their own special way of sending messages from mountain to mountain. They use a whistled(口哨的) language called el silbo, which comes from their language Spanish. Whistling can be heard within five kilometers, which means it can be used across much greater distances than shouting. El silbo can be used for all kinds of messages, including greetings and announcements. El silbo is used a lot less than it used to be, but primary school students in La Gomera have to learn it.
Did you know it's also possible to send messages without making a noise This is called visual communication, and it includes the use of flags and even smoke. Long ago, soldiers along the Great Wall of China used smoke as a warning. If they noticed the enemy from their signal(信号) tower, they lit a smoky fire. When soldiers in other towers saw the smoke signal, they lit fires too. In this way, messages about the enemy's arrival could travel as far as 800 km in just a few hours.

We are often taught failure is bad. Therefore, we try to 73.a it. Sometimes we don’t try, because we are afraid of failure.
When we fail, it can be hard to move on. We lose enthusiasm(热情). But a failure is not the end. We need 74.c to continue. We are often nearer to success than we realise. Remember that’s where you will find success.
六、读写综合(满分30分)
(一)阅读短文并回答问题 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
When you eat something, your stomach breaks down its large molecules(分子) into smaller ones. Many people like to eat pineapples(菠萝). So when you eat pineapples, they can “eat” you by breaking down the molecules in your body. Pineapples have certain enzymes(酶) that can break down proteins(蛋白质). Many smaller molecules like the pearls(珍珠) come together to form the long pearl necklace of a protein. You can cut a necklace with scissors. In the same way, the enzymes in pineapples “cut up” proteins.
All living things have proteins. They are an important part of the cells(细胞) in your body. If an enzyme can break down a protein, it can break down cells as well. So will the cells of your tongue(舌头) when you eat a pineapple. This is why your mouth will hurt if you eat too much.
But luckily, the cells in your tongue cure itself fast. And after you have swallowed the pineapple, the special enzymes will be broken down by your stomach. It won't “eat” you any more.
Why do pineapples have these enzymes Some scientists believe that they are created by the pineapple to prevent animals from eating its fruits before they are ripe(成熟的). Another reason is that the enzymes help the seed(种子) to grow up. They play an important role in sending messages to the cells of the plant. These messages tell the cells when to start and stop growing. Without these enzymes, the seed may not be able to properly develop.
回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过6个词。
81.What can break down proteins(蛋白质) in pineapples
82.How can pineapples “eat” you
83.What are the enzymes in pineapples compared to(被比作)
84.How many reasons are there about why pineapples have these enzymes
85.What is the passage mainly about

They didn't think they could do any better. This is called a fixed mindset.”可知,文章介绍了拥有固定型思维模式的学生在面对一项任务时,如果受到了夸赞,那么下一次他们就不会再继续努力了,因此可推知拥有固定型思维的人获得成功的机会较小。故选B。

As students, we sometimes feel it boring to do homework every day, so doing creative homework can make us happier and more interested in English.
I have many good ideas about creative English homework because English is my favorite subject.
Firstly, we can learn to sing an English song and sing it in class. In this way, we can learn more words.
Secondly, if we draw mind maps to review our English notes, we will remember them well.
Thirdly, it's also proud of us to make a video to introduce our traditional Chinese culture in English. We can post it online so that more foreigners can know about our great country.
I hope we can have more creative English homework in the future.
