五、教学过程
Step 1: Warm-up
Greet the students and ask them about the weather today. Encourage them to use the sentence pattern "The sun is shining." For example, the teacher can say, "Good morning, everyone! How is the weather today Is the sun shining " Encourage students to respond using the sentence pattern, such as "Yes, the sun is shining today!" or "No, it's cloudy today."
Introduce the new words: shine, everyone, fly away. Use realia or pictures to help students understand the meanings of these words. Show a picture of the sun and say, "This is the sun. It gives us light and warmth. When the sun is shining, it means it is bright and sunny outside." Show a picture of a group of people and say, "These are people, and when we talk about everyone, it means all the people." Show a picture of birds flying away and say, "These birds are flying away. 'Fly away' means to go up into the air and move away."
Step 2: Presentation
Show a picture of the sun shining and elicit the sentence "The sun is shining." Write the sentence on the board and explain its meaning. Say, "Look at this picture. What can you see That's right, the sun is shining! It means the sun is giving us light and it's bright outside."
Show a picture of birds in the trees and elicit the sentence "The birds are singing in the trees." Write the sentence on the board and explain its meaning. Say, "Now, look at this picture. What do you notice Yes, the birds are in the trees and they are making beautiful sounds. We say 'The birds are singing in the trees' to describe what they are doing."
Introduce the words "shine" and "everyone" by associating them with the sentences. Use gestures and facial expressions to make the meanings clear. For example, point to the sun and say, "This is the sun, and when it shines, it gives us light and makes everything bright." Then, show a group of people and say, "When we talk about everyone, it means all the people around us."
Introduce the word "fly away" by showing a picture of birds flying away. Explain its meaning and use gestures to demonstrate. Say, "Look at these birds. They are flying away. 'Fly away' means to go up into the air and move away. The birds are leaving their current location and going somewhere else."
Step 3: Practice
Divide the class into pairs or small groups.
Distribute worksheets with sentences containing the target vocabulary and sentence structures. Students should match the sentences with the corresponding pictures. For example, the worksheet can have sentences like:
1. The sun is shining. (Picture of the sun)
2. The birds are singing in the trees. (Picture of birds in trees)
3. Everyone is happy. (Picture of a group of people)
4. The birds fly away. (Picture of birds flying away)
Monitor the students' work and provide assistance as needed. Walk around the classroom, checking students' answers and offering help if any difficulties arise.
Step 4: Grammar Focus
Introduce the concept of present continuous tense (现在进行时) by explaining that it is used to talk about actions happening at the moment of speaking or around the present time. Write the sentence "The birds are singing in the trees" on the board and underline "are singing." Explain that "are singing" is the present continuous form of the verb "sing." Say, "We use the present continuous tense to talk about actions that are happening right now or around the present time. In this sentence, 'are singing' tells us that the birds are currently singing, not in the past or future."
Provide more examples of present continuous sentences related to the topic, such as "I am reading a book" or "The dog is barking." Write these sentences on the board and highlight the present continuous verb forms. Explain the meaning of each sentence and emphasize the use of the present continuous tense.
Have students practice making their own present continuous sentences using the target vocabulary and structures. For example, the teacher can prompt them with sentences like "The sun is shining. The birds are flying away." and ask students to complete the sentences with their own ideas. Encourage them to share their sentences with a partner or the whole class.
Step 5: Listening and Comprehension
Play the audio recording of the dialogue/text from the textbook. Ensure that all students can hear the audio clearly.
Have students listen and follow along in their textbooks. While listening, they should pay attention to the information about the weather, the sun shining, and the birds singing.
After playing the audio, ask comprehension questions about the text to check students' understanding. For example, the teacher can ask, "What is the weather like in the dialogue " or "What are the birds doing " Encourage students to answer the questions using complete sentences, incorporating the target vocabulary and sentence structures. For instance, a student might respond, "In the dialogue, it's a sunny day. The sun is shining brightly." or "The birds in the dialogue are singing happily in the trees."
Step 6: Production
Divide the class into small groups.
In their groups, students will create a short dialogue or role play using the target vocabulary and sentence structures. They should incorporate the present continuous tense. For example, provide a scenario like "Two friends are talking about their activities on a sunny day."
Give the groups some time to prepare their dialogues. Encourage them to use the target vocabulary and sentence structures creatively.
Have each group perform their dialogue in front of the class. As they perform, other students can listen and provide feedback or positive comments on their classmates' language use.
Step 7: Wrap-up and Reflection
Review the key vocabulary words, sentence structures, and the use of present continuous tense. Ask students to provide definitions or examples using the target vocabulary words, such as "Can someone tell me what 'shine' means " or "Can you give me a sentence using the word 'everyone' "
Ask students to reflect on what they learned in the lesson and how they can use it in their daily lives. For example, the teacher can ask, "How can you use the sentence 'The sun is shining' in a conversation with your friends or family " or "When do you think you might use the present continuous tense to describe something happening around you "
