由于其高知名度,世界上不少著名城市的都有商场或建筑物取名为“时代广场”,时代广场这个名字就此深入人心。时报广场附近聚集了近40家商场和剧院,是繁盛的娱乐及购物中心。百老汇上的剧院、大量耀眼的霓虹光管广告、以及电视式的宣传版,已经深入成为象征纽约的标志,反映曼哈顿强烈的都市特性。走近时报广场,四周是色彩绚烂的霓虹灯和街头艺人,随时播放着新闻,歌曲MV,电视节目的大屏幕,足以震撼每个人的眼球。时报广场是纽约市内唯一在规划法令内、要求业主必须悬挂亮眼宣传版的地区。
中央公园(Central Park)是位于美国纽约市曼哈顿中心的一座大型都会公园,造访人数在美国居首,2013年共吸引4000万人参观。中央公园也是众多电影的取景地。
公园最早是在1857年开放,当时的面积为778英亩(315公顷)。1858年,费德列·洛·奥姆斯特和卡弗特·沃克斯以“草坪计划”(Greensward Plan)赢得了扩展公园的设计竞赛,同年开始施工次年开始部分区域向公众开放,南北战争时向北扩建,后在1873年完工,现面积843英亩(341公顷),长约4公里、宽约0.8公里。
中央公园在1962年被美国内政部指定为国家历史名胜,在纽约市公园和娱乐部管理数十年后由中央公园保存委员会与市政府签约负责管理。保存委员会是一个非营利组织,在中央公园的6700万美元的年间预算中,提供了75%的金额。
百老汇(Broadway)原义为宽街。它是指纽约市中以巴特里公园为起点,由南向北纵贯曼哈顿岛,全长25公里的一条长街。大街两旁高耸云端的大楼栉比林立,坐落着威名远扬的华尔街证券交易所,以及麦迪逊广场,时报广场等代表美国金融巨头和商业大亨的许多划时代建筑。最为醒目的是,在百老汇大街41街至53街之间汇集起了众多遐迩闻名的剧院,随着剧院的发展壮大,使这里的戏剧表演艺术取得了无与伦比的成就,进而使现代人每每提起百老汇,似乎都已忽略了它的“宽街”本义,而把它同戏剧表演艺术融为一体,使它成了世界戏剧艺术永恒魅力的象征和代表。不过百老汇可不是一家剧院,而是一条街上的几十家剧院
