Once, a circle broke. It missed a small part of itself. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around and looked for its missing piece. But, because it wasn’t complete, it could roll(滚动)only very slowly. It smelled the flowers along the way. It talked with the worms(虫子). It enjoyed the sunshine. It found lots of different parts, but none of them fit. It left them all by the side of the road and kept on searching.
One day, the circle found a perfect piece. It was so happy. It could be whole, with nothing missing. It fixed itself and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, but too fast to notice the flowers or to talk to the worms. The circle missed the flowers and the worms. It left its perfect piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.
Perhaps we are more whole when we are missing something. In some ways, a man who has everything is a poor man. He will never know what it feels like to dream of something better. He will never know the experience of finding something he has always wanted and never had.

A.Being broken is worse than being perfect. B.Being broken is another kind of beauty.
C.There is nothing perfect in the world. D.The circle became happy after fixing itself.

One morning in September 2018, after a bad thunderstorm. I found a baby bird on the ground outside of our home. His eyes were tightly(紧紧地) shut and he was shaking. The poor little bird was left behind by his flock(鸟群). Clearly, he was too young to be able to survive on his own, placed him in a cardboard box with tea towels. I stayed up all night that day to research how to care for him.
The next day, he woke with his mouth wide-open to let out a sharp hunger call. I fed him termites(白蚁) and chirped(叽喳叫) at him. He chirped back, jumped into my hand and then fell asleep in my palm(掌心). To him, I was a mama bird.
For the next 84 days, the cute little thing lived on me. Wherever I went, he would fly alongside me. He would make short flights from my hand to my head and then slide(滑行) down from my long hair to hand to rest again. He went into hiding in my clothes while I learned his different calls. I never named him because he didn’t belong to me—I had to remind myself that he needed to return to the wild.
Almost three months later, he was stronger, more confident and flying farther from me. His flock returned to the grasslands. It was time for him to go. Before I flew back to England in November for the holiday season, I decided that the bird should be allowed outside to fly daily. I took him out to the flock three times. On the fourth day, the bird flew away with them.
When I returned in January, I would watch out for him whenever the finches(雀科小鸟) flew past. I still cry when I think of him. I wrote our story into a book, Fledgling. That, along with the lesson that any tiny animal can make a difference, will be his legacy(遗留的影响).
47.According to the article that the baby bird liked to rest ________.
A.on the ground B.in a cardboard box
C.on the tea towel D.inside the writer’s hand
48.What can we know about the baby bird
A.The baby bird mainly lived on termites and snails.
B.The baby bird was left behind by his flock after a thunderstorm.
C.The baby bird was able to survive on his own without others’ care.
D.The baby bird could make a flight from house to grasslands at first.
49.The writer didn’t name the bird because ________.
A.she considered it strange to name a bird
B.she could not come up with a satisfying name.
C.She knew the bird would sooner or later fly back to its flock
D.she was sure that birds could not understand human language
50.What was the writer’s purpose of writing the article
A.To introduce a kind of baby bird. B.To tell us how to take care of a baby bird.
C.To call on people to care for tiny animals. D.To encourage people to look for baby birds.

Long ago in ancient Greece, two cities called Syracuse(锡拉库扎)and Ephesus(以弗所)were enemies. According to the Law made by the Duke(公爵)of Ephesus, any Syracusan found in Ephesus had to pay a large sum of money as a fine or be killed.
One day, Aegeon, a businessman from Syracuse, was arrested(逮捕)in Ephesus. He did not have enough money to pay the fine and would be killed. Before that, the Duke asked him why.
“My wife and I have twin sons and two boys as their servants(仆人). The servants are also twins. More than twenty years ago, we were caught in a big storm at sea. My wife, my son Antipholus and his servant went missing in the storm.”
The man added, “I named my other son and his servant after their missing twin brothers. When they grew up, they left Syracuse to search for their brothers and my wife. But my boys haven’t returned home or sent me any letters yet. Therefore, I left home and traveled here in search of news.”
The Duke took pity on Aegeon. He gave the poor man one day to find someone to pay his fine. Otherwise, he would have to die.
In fact, Aegeon’s missing son and his servant were indeed in Ephesus. They were living there after being saved from the storm by some fishermen. The son, Antipholus of Ephesus (E.Antipholus) had become a rich man and married a woman named Adriana.
Moreover, in search of their brothers, Antipholus of Syracuse (S.Antipholu) and his servant had also arrived in Ephesus. They learned about the laws of the city and, as a result, put on local clothing. S.Antipholus sent his servant to get a room for them in a local inn(小旅馆).
Just then, E.Antipholus’s servant happened to meet S.Antipholus and mistook him for his master. The servant asked him to go home and have dinner with Adriana. S.Antipholus was confused(迷惑的)and refused. After the servant returned home, he told Adriana about his “master’s”reply. The woman felt very angry with her“husband”.

Before 1970, few laws protected the environment. Then on April 22 that year, Earth Day was created to celebrate our planet, tell people about environmental problems, and encourage them to take action. Now Earth Day is celebrated all around the world. We still face many challenges, such as climate(气候) change, plastic pollution, and deforestation(毁林). But we can make a difference. Here is an Earth-helping hero.
Adeline Tiffanie Suwana was twelve when her family’s home flooded. Indonesia, her island nation in South-east Asia, is often hit hard by floods and other natural disasters.
Adeline wanted to help. Studying the problem, she learned that mangrove trees play an important role in flood protection. Their big, tangled(缠结的)roots slow floodwaters and keep soil from washing away. But the trees were being cut down.
Adeline gathered her classmates to plant 200 mangrove young trees during a school break. They started a group called Friends of Nature, which works to keep the area’s biodiversity(生物多样性), fight against climate change, and help people realize the importance of the environment. They even started a project to get clean energy to remote villages.
Today, Adeline attends college, studying how businesses can help the environment.
