Greeting:
Good morning, distinguished judges, my fellow teachers! It is my great honor to be here to share my lesson with you. Please allow me to present you my teaching plan for this text.
Analysis of teaching materials:
Now, let's get started with the teaching material we have today. It's from the required elective course, book2, published by Beijing Normal University Press. The topic of this unit is Education and the title of my lesson is Enlightening a mind. I will present my design from the following 5 aspects, namely the guiding theories, general introduction, teaching procedures, blackboard design, and features of my design.
Analysis of students:
Then it's my analysis of target students. I approached the analysis from SWOT, 4 aspects. S means strength. My students have already got some knowledge about Helen Keller's life and have grasped some basic reading strategies and skills, but there are some weaknesses. They show difficulty in reading long texts and lack experience and skills in exploring the text at multiple levels and from different angles. Luckily, the opportunities are that they show keen interests in learning more about Helen Keller and are willing to explore what changed her life. However, threats exist at the same time. They easily feel discouraged and stop further exploration after gaining some basic facts after reading this narration.
Teaching Objectives:
Combining my analysis of the teaching material and analysis of the target students, I set the following learning objectives. After this class, students will be able to:
1. Sequence the teaching order of 4 words and explain the reason.
2. Interpret and summarize the connection between the learning process of 4 words and the title.
3. Analyze the reason for Helen's successful enlightenment from different angles.
4.Retell the story about Helen Keller.
So with all the teaching objectives mentioned above, now let’s move on to the important and difficult points of my teaching and which teaching methods I prefer to employ in my class.
The most important part would be to enable Ss to master the language points as well as the grammatical knowledge in the text and get to know the main idea of the article.
And what turns out to be difficult is to guide the Ss, step by step, to write an essay or deliver a speech on the topic we've come across today, which means to achieve the transition from the input to the output.
Teaching methods: In terms of teaching approaches, I adopted Jig-saw reading, communicative teaching as well as situational teaching. To carry out the class more smoothly, I included CAI, blackboard, learning sheets as teaching aids.
The evaluation of this class was objective-oriented and incorporated in teaching activities. Besides, multiple evaluation approaches are adopted including self-evaluation, peer evaluation and teaches evaluation.
Teaching procedure:
The first part would be the lead-in.In the class, I will play a short video or show some pictures cetering ...... The purpose of my design is to Ss’ about the topic. Moreover, Ss might get highly motivated and therefore it may facilitate my teaching simultaneously.
My second procedure would be read for the theme. I will let Ss do the fast reading like skimming and scanning to get the rough idea of the passage. And then ask them to choose the main idea of each paragraph. The purpose of structure analysis enables us to figure out how the writer gradually develop his line of thought and get familiar with the organization of the text.
My third step would be read between the lines. That is careful reading actually. Ss are required to go through all paragraphs one by one. At the same time, some detailed questions like T/F are shown for them to the answers. The purpose of my design: Ss can get more detailed information about 文章主题。
For my 4th procedure, that would be the output, which means post reading. With all these comprehensive and adequate input in my first 3 steps, we’ve reached a point where output is feasible. First, Ask Ss to close books and fill in blanks to sum up the passage. This exercise is a little bit challenging but quite effective in my real class, because we’ve transform the negative words into positive ones. Second, Group discussion, in this step, Ss would be divided into groups of 4 to exchange their views on questions like: Q1 From your perspective,________________ After discussion, invite a few groups make a report to the class. The group discussion can practice Ss oral English and cultivate their abilities of cooperation and communication.
Homework
1.Ss are expected to write an essay on the theme we ‘ve stumbled across today. They need to employ 5new expressions and 2 sentences patterns we’ve learned in this text.
2.I will provide them with some more e-reading materials and recommend some materials related to the theme of the article.
Purpose of homework: Homework is so important and necessary for the Ss to master the knowledge they have learned. It will check whether the teaching objectives are achieved.
Blackboard Design
Blackboard design should be a thing that attract Ss attention and let them to write down important teaching points. I will divide the blackboard into two parts. The left part will be used to write the important vocabulary and grammar and their usage. It will be reserved for the whole class. The right part will be precious explanation. I will write some sentence of the words, phrases and structures to explain their meaning.
So, to summarize, I want to help my students achieve “5p” which is also my teaching philosophy. That is to preview, to participate, to practice, to present and to produce.I hope my Ss will not learn language simply for the sake of language. Rather, they’re using the language to broaden their horizons and form a deeper understanding of 本单元主题。
