While established by Woodrow Wilson as a holiday in the United States in 1913, the practice of recognizing mothers on a specific day or at a specific time of year has spread to more than 40 countries. Here's a look at the various traditions.
France
Mother's Day in France is celebrated on the last Sunday in May, unless it conflicts with the Pentecost(五旬节). If it does, it will be celebrated on the first Sunday of June. Regardless of the day, a traditional gift is a flower-shaped cake.
Japan
Following World War I, Mother's Day in Japan gained some popularity, and it is now celebrated on the second Sunday of May. Gifts include red or pink carnations(康乃馨) as they represent sweetness and purity. Children will often draw pictures of their mothers and present them to Mom in addition to preparing dishes that their mothers have taught them.
Sweden
Celebrated on the last Sunday in May, the day isn't all that different from the U.S. version. There's breakfast in bed and homemade cards and the like. One difference is that the Swedish Red Cross collects money by selling red plastic flowers. The money from the flowers goes to mothers and children in need.
Thailand
While all mothers are recognized during Mother's Day in Thailand, the holiday is largely centered on Sirikit, the queen consort(王后) of Thailand. Mother's Day is celebrated on her birthday, August 12, and public places and homes are decorated with lights and pictures of Sirikit. Flowers like jasmine are popular gifts.

What can be both red or green, round or sharp, big or small, and more importantly, loved or hated by someone Yes, the answer is chilies(辣椒).
Many of us in China enjoy adding chilies to our food but did you know that this spicy vegetable could also be dangerous "A 34-year-old US man recently ended up in hospital after eating a Carolina Reaper, the spiciest chili people have known so far. After taking just a single bite of one, the man suffered from serious headaches in the following days," reported BBC News.
In fact, eating spicy food causes stomachache and headaches. But if chilies are harmful, why do people like to eat this vegetable So what makes people love chilies so much "The human body is influenced by natural chemicals that produce a sense of happiness", noted BBC News.
And chilies do good to people in another way. Scientists found that the death rate of those who eat spicy food once or twice a week is 10 percent lower than those who eat it less than once a week. The death rate is 14 percent lower for those who eat spicy food six to seven times a week. This encourages people to eat more spicy food to improve health and bring less death risk at an early age. A British friend told me he couldn't understand why Chinese people love eating sunflower seeds (磕瓜子) as a snack so much. "I've met a lot of older Chinese and many have a crack in their front teeth; I believe that's from cracking the seeds," he said.
I had never noticed the habit, but once he mentioned it, I suddenly became more aware. I realized that whenever I'm watching TV or typing a report, I always start mindlessly cracking sunflower seeds. My friend doesn't like sunflower seeds, and, to him, it seems unnecessary to work so much just to get one small seed.
When we were young, the whole family would usually get together for Chinese New Year. Then, we all lived close to one another, usually in a small city, and sometimes even neighbors would go door-to-door on Chinese New Year's Eve to check out what every household was making.
I remember my parents would be in the kitchen cooking. Out in the living room, a large table would already be laid out, complete with fancy tablecloth, ready-made dumpling fillings, and dishes full of candy, fruits and sunflower seeds. Some of the dishes were to be offered to our ancestors later, while others were for neighbors and children to eat before the evening feast. I must have learned how to crack sunflower seeds back then.
I don't think it's right to criticize one's choice in food or eating habits, no matter how strange they may seem.
It's not only in China. When I went abroad, I found people had all kinds of strange habits when it came to food. In Denmark, they put salted red fish on bread and eat it for dinner, no matter how much it ruins your breath. They think it's a delicacy (美味佳肴), and it's connected to their certain culture. I think it's a wonderful tradition.
What did the writer become aware of
A.She had ever typed a report about seeds.
B.She had various snacks while watching TV.
C.She damaged her teeth by eating sunflower seeds.
D.She had a habit of cracking sunflower seeds.
33.What does the writer prove by mentioning Chinese New Year
A.The traditions of celebrating it disappear.
B.Eating sunflower seeds is related to it.
C.The families get together for it.
D.Children can eat delicious food on that day.
34.The writer's attitude to Denmark's way of eating bread is _________.
A.neutral(中立的) B.critical(批评的) C.acceptable D.doubtful
35.What lesson can we learn from the story
A.One kind of food doesn't necessarily suit everyone.

C.Eating habits come from a certain culture.
D.Changing your eating habits will change your life.

There are two important teachers in this world. One is the nature. It was considered to be the best teacher in the old days, because man learned a lot from nature like lighting the fire and growing rice. It also provides man with many necessary things for life, such as water, food and so on.
Hu, 31, is a pioneer in nature education. He set up an organization five years ago. It offers nature-based programs to children under 12 years old, including many outdoor activities, such as planting trees and watching birds.
"Nature is friendly to us if we protect her. And don't forget that we all are part of nature," He said. The purpose of nature education is to teach people how to understand, respect(尊重) and get on well with nature.
Here comes the other important teacher —— a book. The experiences people learned from nature were written down in the form of a book. This was a step forward because man could record their experiences and thoughts.
Books play an important role in our lives. Su Mingjuan, a girl from a poor family in a small village, has finished college and become a good bank clerk. She volunteers to encourage people to read more. She said, "Without reading books, I can't have such a wonderful life." Besides Su, millions of people learn from books and have better lives. Some people ever said, "A book is like a garden carried in the pocket(口袋).”
