(2024·河北唐山·一模)When I started Social-Engineer, I just left a company that was amazing. It was like a family. The pain of leaving was real for me and like all family separation, it wasn’t 100% smooth. I was heartbroken to leave but wanted to take every lesson I learned to my new company. I was determined to also take all the good memories with me. Yes, there were mistakes from both sides of the fence but instead of focusing on those, I went away remembering all the great times, life lessons and growth I had gifted to me.
I figured I would grow my company by being a nice man and working hard, and never demanding more from my people than I was willing to give, believing this approach would earn respect and effort in return. I would say things to myself like, “Well, I did this, so they should do that.” Or “I am this way, so they should be that way.”
And to be honest, it felt real. It felt like it was an honest evaluation.
But... But... But...
I started to have people problems. I am a very strong, direct communicator and although in many ways that is a strength, it can be a weakness in other ways. I often hurt people’s feelings. Even though I was very self-aware of this, I still messed up. Now this is odd to admit out loud for a company that basically focuses on helping dozens of companies make huge changes.
I went to see a psychologist. Natasha actively listened to all I said and then every now and then presented a thought as a question or a mild statement. She wanted to challenge me to change, challenge me to expand my thoughts. I was in my session with Natasha and I was saying things like this:
“I gave this person tens of thousands of dollars in a raise in one year, they should be more appreciative.”
“I have a great salary, benefits and support package, this person should have been more thankful.”
Natasha stopped me and said, “Well, you just SHOULD all over yourself, didn’t you Did you pay for devotion Did you pay for honor Did you pay for appreciation ”
The sad answer was NO.
“You want to see the change that you so desire — then be the change,” Natasha said. She then mentioned Bruce Lee, who said “Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle... Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
I know what I should do. Will you join me
7.Why was the author confident about his company management
A.He believed he was gifted for it.
B.His employees were well qualified.

8.What are the author’s problems rooted in
A.The rigid rules. B.The lack of vision.
C.The company’s focus. D.The author’s social skill.
9.What did Natasha conclude from the session
A.The author fell into a thinking trap.
B.The employees expected too much.
C.The author was not really committed.
D.The employees were victims of management.
10.What does the author invite us to do
A.Read Bruce Lee. B.Learn to change.
C.Take more duties. D.Desire less for more.
【答案】7.C 8.D 9.A 10.B
根据第一段中“I was heartbroken to leave but wanted to take every lesson I learned to my new company.(离开的时候我很伤心,但我想把我学到的每一课都带到我的新公司)”和第二段中“I figured I would grow my company by being a nice man and working hard, and never demanding more from my people than I was willing to give, believing this approach would earn respect and effort in return.(我想我要做一个好人,努力工作,从不要求我的员工超过我愿意付出的,这样才能发展我的公司,我相信这种方法会赢得尊重和努力作为回报)”可推知,作者有来自之前公司的经验教训和自己的工作原则,所以他对自己的公司管理充满信心。故选C项。
根据第五段中“I started to have people problems. I am a very strong, direct communicator and although in many ways that is a strength, it can be a weakness in other ways. I often hurt people’s feelings. Even though I was very self-aware of this, I still messed up.(我开始有人际关系问题。我是一个非常强大、直接的沟通者,虽然在很多方面这是一个优点,但在其他方面也可能是一个缺点。我经常伤害别人的感情。尽管我很清楚这一点,但我还是搞砸了)”可知,作者经常伤害别人的感情,他的问题的根源在于他的社交技能。故选D项。
9.推理判断题。根据倒数第四段中Natasha反问作者的话“Well, you just SHOULD all over yourself, didn’t you Did you pay for devotion Did you pay for honor Did you pay for appreciation (嗯,你认为都“应该”,对吗 你为忠诚付钱了吗 你荣誉付钱了吗 你为感激付钱了吗 )”和倒数第三段中“The sad answer was NO.(可悲的答案是否定的)”可推知,通过治疗,Natasha发现作者陷入了自己的思维陷阱,指出作者认为他给员工支付的工资是用来买员工的忠诚、荣誉和感激,这是错误是思维方式。故选A项。
10.
根据倒数第二段中““You want to see the change that you so desire — then be the change,” Natasha said.(“你希望看到你所渴望的变化,那就改变吧,”娜塔莎说)”和最后一段中“I know what I should do. Will you join me (我知道我该怎么做。你愿意和我一起去吗 )”可推知,作者接受了Natasha的建议,要做出改变,并邀请读者和他一起作出改变。故选B项。
(2024·浙江·模拟预测)When I picked up The Woks of Life, a cookbook written by the Leung family, I was very excited. Inside there are mom-and-dad approved recipes with stories and photos—even a timeline—of the family’s history.
“We call our cookbook culinary genealogy (烹饪家谱). We wanted the book to be our family’s stories told through food, rather than just characteristic recipes,” said Sarah Leung, who co-wrote the book during the pandemic (流行病) with her parents and younger sister. “We grew up in a food-obsessed (着迷的) family. Honestly, I’ve developed a quarter of these recipes myself,” Sarah added. “Over time, we’ll accomplish our goal: All family members are competent Chinese cooks.”
The cookbook features dishes which might be made in a Chinese American home as well as in Chinese American takeout restaurants. “Home-style cooking and restaurant-style cooking have equal importance, but they are different,” Sarah said, adding that the family also discussed how to be respectful of each point. “I hope the recipes will appeal to Chinese Americans, like my family, and also those less familiar with Chinese cooking.”
Part of their cookbook has also been posted on their website, attracting millions of faithful followers. The success of the cookbook is that it honors tradition as well as reflects modern interpretations, making it a mixture of the old and the new. It also offers building blocks for home cooks who want to learn to cook Chinese food.
I started my exploration with the Kung Pao Chicken, a popular dish and also my favorite. Joyfully, the dish I made tasted like it was supposed to be. It really built up my confidence. Surely, as you can imagine, I have also set up my goal to be expert in Chinese cooking.
The cookbook is promoting Chinese cooking to become the domain of home cooks in the United States. For too long, Chinese cooking has been a cuisine that many people are used to only eating out.
11.Why is the cookbook called culinary genealogy
A.It runs in the family. B.It is written by family members.
C.It includes the story of a family. D.It contains mom-and-dad approved recipes.
12.Which of the following best describes the Leung family
A.Easygoing and helpful. B.Faithful and energetic.
C.Devoted and considerate. D.Fortunate and thankful.
13.What does the author think of The Woks of Life
A.It is a typical Chinese cookbook. B.Its success lies in honoring tradition.
C.It offers building blocks for all cooks. D.It helps improve the author’s cooking skills.
14.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Most Americans are used to eating out.
B.The cookbook has become a best seller.
C.American home cooks prefer Chinese cooking.
D.The cookbook benefits the spread of Chinese cooking.
根据第二段前两句““We call our cookbook culinary genealogy (烹饪家谱). We wanted the book to be our family’s stories told through food, rather than just characteristic recipes,” said Sarah Leung, who co-wrote the book during the pandemic (流行病) with her parents and younger sister.(“我们称我们的烹饪书为烹饪家谱(烹饪谱)。我们希望这本书通过食物讲述我们的家庭故事,而不仅仅是特色食谱,”莎拉·梁说,她在疫情期间与父母和妹妹共同撰写了这本书)”可知,the Leung family想要在这本食谱中通过食物讲述家庭故事,因此把这本食谱叫作烹饪家谱,故选C项。
12.推理判断题。根据第二段中““We grew up in a food-obsessed (着迷的) family. Honestly, I’ve developed a quarter of these recipes myself,” Sarah added. “Over time, we’ll accomplish our goal: All family members are competent Chinese cooks.”(“我们生长在一个痴迷美食的家庭。老实说,这些食谱中有四分之一是我自己开发的,”莎拉补充道。“随着时间的推移,我们将实现我们的目标:所有家庭成员都是能干的中国厨师。”)”可知,the Leung family对食物很着迷,并正为实现全员成为中餐大师的目标付出努力,说明他们“devoted”;以及第三段中““Home-style cooking and restaurant-style cooking have equal importance, but they are different,” Sarah said, adding that the family also discussed how to be respectful of each point.(萨拉说:“家常菜和餐馆菜同样重要,但它们是不同的。”她补充说,这家人还讨论了如何尊重每一点)”可知,the Leung family想在食谱中体现对中餐方方面面的尊重,说明他们“considerate”,故选C项。
13.推理判断题。根据第五段中“I started my exploration with the Kung Pao Chicken, a popular dish and also my favorite. Joyfully, the dish I made tasted like it was supposed to be. It really built up my confidence.(我从宫保鸡丁开始了我的探索,这是一道很受欢迎的菜,也是我的最爱。令人高兴的是,我做的菜尝起来像它应该有的味道。它真的建立了我的信心)”可知,作者按照这本食谱首先尝试了制作宫保鸡丁,结果做出来的宫保鸡丁和作者之前吃过的味道很像。这增强了作者的信心,故选D项。
14.推理判断题。根据最后一段“The cookbook is promoting Chinese cooking to become the domain of home cooks in the United States. For too long, Chinese cooking has been a cuisine that many people are used to only eating out.(这本食谱正在推动中国烹饪成为美国家庭烹饪的领域。长期以来,中国烹饪一直是一种许多人只习惯在外面吃饭的烹饪方式)”可知,这本食谱正推动着中餐成为美国家庭厨师烹饪的一部分;在此之前的很长时间,许多想要享用中餐的美国人只能前往外面的餐馆,故选D项。
(2022·浙江温州·一模)It’s a classic story: A kid is forced to learn an instrument from a young age, they play it throughout their childhood, and they develop a bittersweet relationship with it. Is the constant battle between the love for the music and the hate for the constant challenge worth the fight For me, it was.
I started playing the piano when I was four-that was 15 years ago! This was huge commitment, so there must have been something worth holding on to, right
The easy guess is that I was purely in love with music and piano. Although that’s the sweeter tale, it’s a bit more complicated. I struggled a lot with piano. Family and peers were, at least in my own head, constantly placed beside me in competition. I felt pressure to be the best in order to prove something to others-and more devastatingly (破坏性地) to prove something to myself. The seed of my musical interest was grown in the sunlight of competition and doubt. Hate sprouted (滋生) when my self-criticism hit too hard.
It’s difficult to learn to love something that didn’t originate from love. For a while, piano was more of an annoyance than a hobby. But somehow, love grew. It was deeply buried. But it was there, and by high school,it was strong enough that when I was truly on the verge of quitting any kind of formal training. I found the strength to hold on tighter, and dig further. I switched teachers, and got incredibly lucky with one who helped me tunnel into what I loved. I learned pieces for myself, I composed for myself, and I found confidence not because I got “good enough,” but because I learned that anything I had was good enough.
The love and hate I’ve had for the piano were both planted and grown. If you too have learned to hate something, remember that with commitment, it can be uprooted, and love can make a home in its place. There is always time. There is always room.
15.What does the author want to show by telling a classic story
A.The benefits of music.
B.Kids’ struggle in learning instruments.
C.Kids’ bittersweet childhood.
D.The popularity of learning instruments.
16.What can we know about the author’s experience of playing the piano
A.She finally quit formal training.
B.She never treated it as her hobby.
C.She was in pure love with music and piano.
D.She once experienced great pressure from herself.
17.What helped the author find confidence
A.Her attitude. B.Her training.
C.Her compromise. D.Her achievement.
18.What message is mainly delivered in the passage
A.Practice makes perfect.
B.Love is a thing that grows.
C.Content is better than riches.
D.Chance favors the prepared mind.
【答案】15.B 16.D 17.A 18.B
由文章第一段“It’s a classic story: A kid is forced to learn an instrument from a young age, they play it throughout their childhood, and they develop a bittersweet relationship with it. Is the constant battle between the love for the music and the hate for the constant challenge worth the fight For me, it was.(这是一个经典的故事:一个孩子从小就被迫学习一种乐器,他们在整个童年时期都在演奏,并与之发展出苦乐参半的关系。对音乐的热爱和对不断挑战的憎恨之间不断的斗争值得吗?对我来说,是的。)”可知,文章讲故事是为了说明孩子们在学乐器方面的挣扎,然后引出介绍自己的情况。故选B项。
16.细节理解题。由文章第三段“ I felt pressure to be the best in order to prove something to others-and more devastatingly (破坏性地) to prove something to myself. The seed of my musical interest was grown in the sunlight of competition and doubt.(为了向别人证明一些东西,我感受到了成为最好的人的压力——更具毁灭性的是,为了向自己证明一些东西。我对音乐的兴趣在竞争和怀疑的阳光下生长。)”可知,作者曾经经历了来自自己的巨大压力。故选D项。
17.细节理解题。由文章倒数第二段“I learned pieces for myself, I composed for myself, and I found confidence not because I got “good enough,” but because I learned that anything I had was good enough.(我为自己学习曲子,为自己作曲,我找到了自信,不是因为我“足够好”,而是因为我知道我所拥有的一切都足够好。)” 故选A项。
由文章倒数第二段“It’s difficult to learn to love something that didn’t originate from love. (很难学会去爱一些不是源于爱的东西。)”以及文章最后一段“The love and hate I’ve had for the piano were both planted and grown. If you too have learned to hate something, remember that with commitment, it can be uprooted, and love can make a home in its place. There is always time. There is always room.(我对钢琴的爱和恨都是种下的,也是成长的。如果你也学会了憎恨某件事,请记住,有了承诺,它可以被连根拔起,爱可以在它的地方建立一个家。时间总是有的。空间也总是有的。)”以及上下文可知,文章通过自己练钢琴的经历领悟到:对东西的爱是可以逐渐培养形成的,所以B项Love is a thing that grows(爱是一种成长的东西)符合文意。故选B项。

Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day
25 November 2023-28 April 2024
Day and night, love and rage, calm and chaos. Enter a world of emotional extremes in this exhibition of the art of Louise Bourgeois, one of the most influential artists of the past century. Born in Paris in 1911 and living and working in New York until her death in 2010, Bourgeois is well-known for her fearless exploration of human relationships across a seven-decade career.
Louise Bourgeois: Has the Day Invaded the Night or Has the Night Invaded the Day reveals the extraordinary reach and intensity of Bourgeois’ art, from unforgettable sculptures of the 1940s to her tough yet tender weaving works of the 1990s and 2000s. It also reveals the psychological tensions that powered her search, through a dramatic presentation in two contrasting exhibition spaces. Moving from the well-lit rooms of “Day” to the darkened area of “Night”, viewers will encounter more than 120 works, including many never seen before in Australia.
Tickets can be booked online via the exhibition or event page on our website, or in person at the welcome desk at the Art Gallery. Puebla, Mexico
Founded in 1931, the Mexico’s fourth-largest city is a stronghold of Baroque architecture. In Puebla’s citycenter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there are a large number of gorgeous 17th- and 18th-century Baroque buildings. Many are decorated with colored titles, the use of which illustrates the combination of Puebla’s local and European colonial styles. In 2017, an earthquake shook the area, leading to restorations of facilities throughout the city afterward. Despite that, Puebla remains rooted in tradition.

Welcome to WSU Libraries! In this guide, we’ll unlock the mysteries of call numbers and location prefixes. Knowing these helps you quickly locate and access your desired books.
Call Numbers
Books and material are arranged on our shelves according to the Library of Congress (LC) classification system. These call numbers uniquely identify and organize items near other material on the same or similar subjects. Consider the call number: LB2395 C65 1991.
LB defines the subject area. The call letters are typically arranged in alphabetical (字母的) order, starting from A and continuing through the alphabet. Knowing the letter(s) for your subject area gives you a place to start browsing the shelves. For example: A — General works; B — Philosophy, Psychology, Religion; D — world History; G — Geography; H— social sciences; J — Political science; K — Law; L— Education; M — Music; N — Arts; P— Language and Literature; Q — science. For more, click here.
2395 is the classification number, which further distinguishes the subject matter. Read as a whole number: 1, 2, 3, 45, 100, 2430.
C65 is the Cutter number and usually represents the author’s last name. Find C, then 65. Read the number as a decimal (小数).
1991 is the year of publication.
Location Prefixes
Some call numbers have a location prefix. Location prefixes mean that the book or material is shelved in a special place, and may have loan restrictions. WSU uses the following prefixes:
43.Which book maybe identified under the call number “NU238 C719 2013”
A.An Introduction to Modern Art. B.The ABC of Computer science.

Tel , Czech Republic
The storybook town was probably founded in the mid-14th century. Stone walls and a system of man-madeponds help protect Tel historic town center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Estimated to date back to the 10th-9th millennia B.C.E, the monumental limestone pillars at G bekli Tepe had been hiding in plain sight for several thousand years. What have been revealed — primarily massive stones decorated with bas-reliefs (浅浮雕) of animal — comprise the world’s oldest known temple complex.
