Good morning, teachers, boys and girls,
First of all, let me introduce myself to the new faces. I am Mr. Chung Fat Shing, head teacher of Po On Commercial Association Wong Siu Ching Secondary School. I welcome you to our big family and hope that you will enjoy your stay and grow with us in the coming years.
For you, who have just graduated from junior high school, big challenges are waiting when you get to higher grades. As the saying goes, "The early bird catches the worm." So, start planning and preparing today. It is also important to develop learning strategies. For example, set a reasonable goal and a workable schedule for study and stick closely to it; do critical thinking(批判性思维) to make sure that you understand your subjects completely.
When you feel down or at a loss, don't hesitate to get support from your schoolmates, teachers, or the school social workers. Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister during the Second World War, once said, "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm(热情)." So, don't lose heart though you may face difficulties and failures. With a strong will, confidence, and perseverance(毅力), you'll surely be able to achieve good results in the future.
Dear boys and girls, senior high school is full of challenges, which will become good opportunities if you know how to face them properly. I strongly believe that under the careful guidance of your teachers and with your own hard work, you can improve yourselves and make your school life enjoyable and rewarding.
Thank you.

I was said to be the worst student in my class and my family thought I was hopeless. I had to repeat the sixth grade. At that time a new teacher, Miss Sadia, came to our school.
One day after class, she noticed that I was staying alone during the lunch break. She came to me and began to talk to me. It was just a normal conversation. After that day, she gave me much attention and it made me feel special. I started to go all out because she gave me the feeling that someone believed me, and my grades started to improve in her subject.
Months later, she moved into a house near my home. We would walk home together after school. Her constant support helped me, especially in my studies, as I knew she would check my grades both in her subject and the other subjects. I finally came second in my class.
Then, after the sixth grade, she started to drift apart but still kept a check on me. By the time I was in the seventh grade, she hardly spoke to me, but by then I had become the best in my class. When I left school, I was out of touch with her as she never answered the phone when I called her.
Then I graduated and went to a good university. One fine day, our paths crossed again. I met her at a wedding. I could not help asking her, "Why did you stop talking to me "
"You are a clever boy. I wanted you to be a tree standing on your own roots, not depending on others. Now here you are and I feel proud of you. You are your inspiration and do not need to look fora shoulder," she said. I could not say anything, but I smiled. I'll always thank her.

A. Be more friendly. B. Get angry.
C. Move away. D. Become less close.
4. Why did Miss Sadia stop talking to the author
A. Because she just disliked talking to him.
B. Because she wanted him to grow independent.
C. Because she was too busy with her own wedding.

Dear Bob,
Haven't seen you for ages! How are things going on with you
I'm much delighted to receive your email asking whether I have made new friends in the senior high school and I can tell you proudly that I have made a very nice new friend at the beginning of this new term. My new friend's name is Xu Hui, a handsome boy with broad shoulders, thick black hair, bright shining eyes and a big mouth. There are always broad smiles on his face. I got to know this guy quite by chance. It was on my way home from school on a rainy evening. I was riding along the avenue when suddenly my bike broke down. I didn't know what to do and was becoming very much frightened and worried. Suddenly, a tall black figure came up to me and asked what was wrong. I told him what had happened. Without hesitation, he bent down his body, checked the machine and was soon getting the machine running again. I was greatly thankful to the boy and asked him for his name. He just smiled and hurried away.
Later, I was told that he was a student in the next classroom. Then we met each other every day on the corridor of the teaching building, talking about our life and studies at school and at home. We soon became close friends.
My new friend is a boy of very good characters.

第三节
The first day of my senior high was coming! When I thought of it, I was excited and eager to meet my new teachers and classmates. I was looking forward to it! When the day came, I became nervous at the sight of so many classmates. Meanwhile, I wanted to make a good first impression on them. So I figured that I should keep calm and be friendly to everyone. I made up my mind to go all out to study every subject well.
Paragraph 1:
My new friend is a boy of very good characters. He is self-confident, humorous, determined and positive about life. Nothing can hold him back from moving ahead towards what he aims to achieve. He is an independent boy who has his own mind about many things. He seems to be able to manage anything that comes to him in his life and studies. He is unselfish and always thinking of others. He is always grateful for whatever he is blessed with. He is hard-working and devoted to his work.
Paragraph 2:
My new friend has a wide range of hobbies and interests. He loves sports, art, music and all sorts of outdoor activities, especially basketball and football. He is a member of many school clubs and usually organizes a lot of campus activities, which attract a large number of students. He even joins in some extreme sports and e-sports. He has won plenty of honors and glory for his team. However, his interests and hobbies never affect his progress in lessons. He can always balance study and play very well.
