1. It takes hundreds of years for plastic to break down, but much less time for paper.
break down if a substance breaks down or is broken down into parts, it separates into the parts that it is made up of 分解,分化
e.g. After many years, rocks break down into dirt.

produce是不可数名词, 主要指农产品。
product既可作可数名词, 也可作不可数名词, 意为“产品, 制品”, 指任何体力或脑力劳动所产生的东西, 一般多指工业产品, 也可指农业品。
production是不可数名词,表示生产行为或产量。
