When the war destroyed the land, everything we had was lost, and we had to run away empty-handed. We traveled to another country, where summers were hot and winters were cold.We lived in a small room. I had no toys and no books. Worst of all: We were short of food.
One day, Father went to the bazaar to buy bread. As evening came, he hadn't returned. Mother and I were worried and hungry. It was nearly dark when he came home. He carried a long roll of paper under his arm. “I bought a map.” he announced.
“Where is the bread ” Mother asked. “I bought a map,” he said again. Mother said nothing. “I had enough money to buy only a tiny piece of bread, and we would still be hungry,” he explained. “No dinner tonight,” Mother said sadly. “ We'll have the map instead.”
The next day, Father hung the map. It took up a whole wall. Our cheerless room was covered with color. I became fascinated by the map and spent long hours looking at it, and many days drawing it on any piece of paper. I was transported far away without ever leaving our room.
I landed in burning deserts.
I ran on beaches and felt their sand between my feet.
I climbed snowy mountains where icy winds licked my face.
I saw great temples where birds of all colors sang on the rooftops.

Do you know you have more than 600 muscles (肌肉) in your body These muscles have different jobs. Keeping your muscles healthy will help you be able to walk, run, jump and do all the things you love to do.
What kind of muscles do you have
When you think about your muscles, you probably think about the ones you can control. These are your voluntary (随意的) muscles. They are connected to your bones (骨骼) and work together with your bones to help you walk, run, pick up things or ride a bicycle. The muscles of your mouth and throat even help you talk! But there are also muscles you can’t control. They are your involuntary (不随意的) muscles, such as your heart muscle and smooth muscles.
Why are healthy muscles important
Healthy muscles let you move freely and keep your body strong. They also help to keep your joints (关节) in good shape. If the muscles around your knee, for example, get weak, you will more probably injure (伤害) that knee. Healthy muscles also help you keep your balance, so you less probably fall.
How do you keep your muscles healthy

·Prevent injuries. There are many ways to help prevent muscle injuries. For example, doing warm-up exercises before exercising may make the muscles warmer. Don’t try to “play through the pain”. If something starts to hurt, stop exercising or playing. When you lift something heavy, keep your back straight and bend (弯曲) your knees to lift it. This will protect the muscles in your back. Remember to drink lots of water while exercising, especially in warm weather. If your body’s water level gets too low, you could get dizzy (晕眩的) or even pass out.

三、能力练--七选五
What springs to mind when you think of kung fu, also known as wushu or martial arts Maybe the image of Shaolin Temple, or popular children’s movies like Kung Fu Panda. 71 Recently, Laurence J. Brahm, a documentary filmmaker from the United States, discussed this question in Searching for Kung Fu. In the movie, Brahm traveled to cities in China and the US in search of the value of kung fu.
72 Around ten years ago, Brahm was unable to use one of his legs for about two years. But by practicing martial arts “very, very slowly” he was able to move step by step. Now, kung fu has become a daily sport for him and also the way he greets the day.
Still others find another meaning in the practice. Li Zhuoqian, now a 14-year-old middle school student, wrote a composition in her Chinese-language examination in which she said,“I used to be very shy and hide behind my mother when I was supposed to show up. After taking martial arts, I won many prizes in competitions and showed martial arts in Japan. 73 .”
“Chinese kung fu is full of Chinese values, both in the name and the practice. Wu, is made up of two characters—ge, meaning “a knife”, and zhi, meaning “to stop”. 74 Kung fu artists always greet with baoquan. This lets each person know that there are no hidden knives and shows trust.” Hong Kong actor Bruce Leung told Xinhua.
Brahm truly looks up to kung fu. 75 “The traditional values of kung fu, actually, are in the minds of all Chinese people. It’s part of the psychology(心理) of the Chinese people. It’s also national psychology,” Brahm told Xinhua.
Brahm himself is a kung fu lover who’s practiced for 40 years.
So the meaning of kung fu in Chinese is the art of stopping fighting.
But do they really show the meaning of kung fu
There are hundreds of styles of kung fu.
He sees it as “a mirror of Chinese culture.”
Kung fu has changed me and turned me into a confident girl.
Recently, learning Chinese martial arts has been more and more popular.
