[why] To inspire students to learn from tle great scentists ' spirits and apply these spirits ' to ther study and life .

By the end of this section, stuchnts will be able to:
khow more activities related to science .
predict, hear and learn about Qion Xuesen and Stephen Hawking’s Iife, achievemants and their scientific spirits.
identify what makes a great scientist.
write an essay about the scientific spirit .

Analyze the two great scientists’ qualities and langrage features of the text .
Lead students to write an essay about the scientific spirit .
V . Learning Procedures :
Step l Pre-reading
We have learned some stories of some great scientists, such as Tu Touyou , Yuan Longping and Einstein. Today we ' ll learn about two other great stiontists . Look at the pictures, what do you know about them Qian Xreson : Q Chinese scientist ," tho father of China ' s aerospace " and " the fatler of China' s rocketry ", who have made important contributions to the space and miseile programme of China .
Stephen Hawking : a British scientist , who put forword a therry about black holes . He has known that black holes do not only absorb everything oround them but also from time to time , throw out matter as well .
Step 2 While - reading
Activity 1 Prediction .
Look at the titles and pictures and predict the following questions :
What will the two texts tell abaut the two great scientists
In what order will the text be written
Activity 2 Read for detailed information.
Read the texts quickly and decide if the statements are true or false.
Work in groups and answer the questions below using the inforimotion from the texts.
Why was Qian called " the father of China’s aerospase
What important personalities and qualities Qian Xiuesen had helped him earn the name of " the father of China’s aerospace
How was Hawking ' s own theory proven correct
What persinalities and qualities in Stephen Hawking helped him with his work and made him one of the greatest thinkers of the 20th and 21st centuries
