Theme context : Man and Society
[ What ] The theme of this part is to read about Xie Lei' s expenence on an exchange programme. By telling the experiences of the difficulties and challenges she encountered and how she finally adapted to the new surroundings, the text reflects the real experience and life most exchange students first arrived in foreign countries, as well as their role and functions in cultural interactions.
[ Why ] Cross - cultural communication is one of the features in the global integration of the world, cultural interaction is quite importont taday, which is playing a more ond more outstanding role in the international relationship. Exchange students are the media and caltural messengers in the cultural interactions.

The students are from senior two, who have learned the characteristics of a piece of news . As to the topic about cross - cultural communication and being a cultural messenger, the students are interested in participating in an exchange programme.
Ⅲ . Learning Objectives :
Afer this section, students are expected to :
have a gereral idea of an exchange programme, understand the quotation on tle opening page .
predict the content , make inferences, read for the details and analyze tle structure.
learn to analyze difficult sentences, compounds.
Learn the inner - meaning of a cultural messenger for the indvidual and for a country.
IV . Teaching key Points :
Lead students to explore the reasons behind the events and sort out the emotional and logic lines.
Encourage students to analyse the structures of the passage.
