教学目标
By the end of this section, students will be able to: identify and understand words and phrases related to space exploration; summarize the key words of each paragraph, pay attention to the cohesion and coherence of the text, and then list the major events in the history of space exploration in the USSR and the USA and China's achievements in this field; analyze and summarize the structure of the text and language features; voice their own opinion about the importance of carrying on space exploration considering the latest space exploration programs of China.
教学内容
教学重点: 1.Summarize the main idea of each paragraph using newly learned words and expressions, pay attention to the cohesion and coherence of the text, and then list major events in the history of space exploration and China's achievements in this field.
2.Analyze and summarize the structure of the text and language features of a popular science article form their own opinion about the importance of carrying on space exploration considering the latest space exploration programs in China.
教学难点: 1. Learn to be critical about the importance of space exploration.
2. Learn to reflect on the elements contribute to the success of space exploration,
教学过程
·Step 1. Lead-in Activity1:warming up Show the students a video about space. Arouse their interest in space. Activity2:Read for prediction Students look at the title, the pictures to think about the topic and predict the content of the article based on this information. Ask students to talk about Chang’e 5 or other latest space exploration programs and think about the main reasons for space exploration (on page 40). (Tip: The teacher offers some reference words to students: vehicle, universe, satellite, launch, orbit, data, etc.) ·Invite students to present what they know about space exploration. Step 2. Skimming Activity 1:Read for gist Students scan the content of the article and choose the writing style and resource. Activity 2:Read for structure Students read the text and choose the correct sentence A-D to fill each gap.Step 2 Predicting ·Ask students to read the title and look at the three pictures on pages 40 and 41, and then predict what the text is about.(Ask students the following questions: 1)What genre is the text 2)Where can you find this type of article ) Invite some students to report their answers. Step3. scanning Activity 1: Read for structure. Student summarize the main idea for each paragraph. Activity 2. Read for details.. Ask the student to answer the question and fill the form. 1). The author tells us many events about space exploration, and how are the events arranged 2). Try to find out all the detailed information and fill in the blanks. Activity 3. Read for language features. Ask the student to answer the question and find the sentences. 1). Did the author use technical terms to explain science Who might be the readers of such an article 2). In this article, what writing techniques are used Find the sentences. Activity 4: Read for attitude. Ask the student to analyze and then translate the sentences into Chinese. 1). However, some scientists were determined to help humans realize their dream to explore space. 2). These disasters made everyone sad and disappointed, but the desire to explore the universe never died. 3). Despite the difficulties, scientists hope future discoveries will not only enable us to understand how the universe began, but also help us survive well into the future. Step 4. Reflection Activity 1: Ask the students to think about the question and discuss with each other. 1). What make the impossible dream a reality 2). After learning the whole passage, do you still think Space is the final frontier Step 4. Assignment Space exploration has come a long way and we’ll continue to push the boundaries of it.
