Achievements
She and her team discovered Qinghaosu , one of the
most effective malaria-fighting drugs in 1972.
In 2015, Tu received the Nobel Prize for medicine, the
first Chinese female ever to win the award.

Date of birth: December 30, 1930
Nationality: Chinese
Education and work experiences:
· From 1951 to 1955, she studied at Beijing
Medical College.
Influence
The number of deaths due to malaria has fallen by
almost 50%.
· After graduation, she worked at the
Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
· From 1959 to 1962, she
received further training
courses in traditional
Chinese medicine.
Interesting fact
Tu’s father named her after a line from the Book of
Songs, which contains the words qing.and hao. The
poetic name made her whole life bound up with
qinghao.
