5W(what, who, when, where, why)要素。
特别是解答推论或暗指类的题目,比如“What can be inferred from … ”或是What does the author imply in…
直接细节理解题在原文中可直接找到答案,常用who, what,when,where,why和how等提问。
提问中往往含有表示推测的情态动词,如 can,could,might, would 等和其他表示可能性的副词,如probably,most likely 等。

My family joined an environmental protection club named Green Future—a club to remind people to protect the earth. So our family held an activity “Bottle of Rubbish Task”. That means the rubbish needs to be put in a 600 ml bottle. We decided to test our ability and produce as little rubbish as possible.
My father worked online all day, so he didn’t produce any paper waste except paper napkins. He made the least rubbish in our family.
My mother cooked and produced plenty of kitchen waste, such as vegetable leaves, eggshells and food bags. What’s worse, we couldn’t eat up all the food of the dinner that day. So leftovers couldn’t be avoided. It was not easy for mom to deal with all the rubbish, but she found a way to put it all into the bottle. How amazing!
My sister, a 16-year-old student, was busy preparing for her exams. She had to use paper to work out math or physics problems. She used only one side of the paper in the past. But from then on, she tried to use both sides of the paper because she realized we were challenging ourselves. She did a good job!
I was different from my sister. I love snacks and drinks. So my rubbish was almost from them. I was highly alert (警觉的) that I must produce less waste. I hardly ever had snacks or drinks. It was too difficult, but I did it!
I’ve learnt a lot from this activity. I realize that everyone can produce less rubbish. We should start with small actions to protect the earth!

A.Dishes that are cooked by mother.
B.Waste that is produced in the kitchen.
C.Food that hasn’t been eaten up at the end of a meal.

4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.The writer’s mother can deal with the rubbish easily.
B.The writer stopped eating snacks.
C.The writer’s sister used only one side of the paper.
D.The writer might become thinner after the activity.
5.Which can be the slogan (口号) of the activity

“Look at this,” I said to my friend Mandy, holding up the bright-red paper. “There’s a five-day art camp at White Cliff this summer!”
Mandy looked at the paper, “It’s during the last week of July,” she said. “That’s the same time as the Hill County Fair and we always go to the fair.” Mandy handed the paper back to me. “Tessa, you’re the artist, but I’m not,” she smiled. “My little brother thought the flowers I painted were spaceships.”
“You may not think you can draw, but you can learn,” I said in my most encouraging voice. I really didn’t want to go alone.
Later, I called my friends Emily and Yoshiko. Yoshiko was going to the fair, and Emily would be out of town in July. I sighed (叹气) and dropped my head down on the red paper.
To relax myself, I went outside to draw the Westons’ pine tree (松树). When I sat on the stone, I thought about the art camp and wished I could be a little braver. Mandy could make friends with other kids in 10 minutes, but I always feel nervous when I don’t know anyone around me. So I decided to give up the camp.
A moment later, Mr. Weston, my neighbor, came. He told me something about the pine. The roots (根) of the pine couldn’t be too near the surface or too deep so that they could reach outward. He also praised me that I drew very well. After his leaving, I thought about what Mr. Weston had told me. It made me think about the art camp and my own roots. I wasn’t reaching them out at all. Instead, I was planting myself into one deep place because I felt safer. I suddenly realized that if I wanted to grow, I had to start reaching out too.
That night, I took a deep breath and made a new decision.

Bert won a national prize called Young Heroes for his “green” project. This publicspirited young person was now a university student. His love for insects grew deeper and he was protecting them for the future.
_______ . When he was around 4 or 5, he always loved to watch different insects, especially beautiful swallowtails (凤蝶). One interesting fact he learned about swallowtails was that their bright colors warned hungry animals that they tasted bad. And it was also fun to watch how they came into being. But the reason he really fell in love with them was that they were very accessible. For example, if you wanted to attract (吸引) swallowtails, you planted some zinnias, a kind of bright flowers.
Bert started a zinnia garden at his house, where he raised a large number of swallowtails over the years. With the world’s swallow tail population falling, Bert wanted people to realize that if insects like swallowtails disappeared, so would all the others above them on the food chain. To make the fact clear and easy to understand for other students, he also created a zinnia garden at his junior high school.
Part of the joy for Bert was watching the younger students get excited when running after swallowtails. “Whenever a swallowtail lands on them, the young students will soon fall in love with these cute insects. They develop a new appreciation for them,” he said.
Bert put his efforts into the environmental educational project and made it take flight.

For his whole life, Peralta dreamed about playing catch.
When he was born, his right hand didn’t fully develop, with only tiny (极小的) fingers at the end of his arm. So he learned to write, eat and carry books with only one hand. Over the years, he lost hope that anything would change. On his first day of high school, he felt like hiding his hand in his sleeve (袖子), so nobody would ever find out.
But his classmates, to his surprise, supported him in a way he never expected. The school’s engineering teacher, Jeff Wilkins, came and told him that his students might be able to help. They offered to build Peralta a prosthetic (假体的) hand.
The students searched online and made a plan. After four weeks, they started the project. They used a common material in 3D printing as the hand’s main material. Another elastic (有弹性的) plastic material commonly found in phone covers was used to make the fingers flex (屈伸). They added a fishing line, so Peralta could tie the hand to his forearm.
Bob Cotter, the headmaster of the school, said, “The students have turned ideas into real ones and Peralta’s new prosthesis reflects that the students care about each other.”

As a teenager, school was difficult for me. I had a kind of attention disorder, which means I couldn’t direct my attention to what I was doing. So when everyone else in the class was centering their attention on tasks, I could not.
In my first reading class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all finished in 45 minutes. I immediately put up my hand and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to finish the task.”
She looked down at me through her glasses, saying, “You are not different from your classmates, young man.” With her encouragement, I tried. But I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.

In the village of Kentucky, there lived a young girl named Amanda. She moved here for only 2 weeks. Her closest friends were far from her. Amanda kept herself busy for hours by walking around the grassy fields nearby, enjoying the natural beauty along them. On the weekend, Amanda would even volunteer on farms to help take care of sheep, cows and horses.
Still, it was easy for Amanda to feel lonely in her big house. One day, just as Amanda was about to leave and spend time walking around, she saw a cat jump onto the porch (门廊) . Even though the cat looked dirty, it was beautiful, with bright blue eyes.

Thinking of what she could offer the cat, Amanda hurried to the kitchen and prepared two bowls: one filled with fish and the other with water. From that day, the cat would appear on the porch every day in the morning and beg for food and water, and Amanda would always be there ready. Their relationship started to deepen as Amanda enjoyed regularly seeing her new “furry (毛茸茸的) neighbor”. The cat was too nervous to be taken indoors, but it was comfortable with Amanda gradually.

But Mark wasn’t giving up. He rested on the hot sand. He ate some chocolate biscuits and fed energy back into his body. Slowly his strength and determination returned. “Would the crayfish(鳌虾) still be there ” He wondered.

Up he went. Tired, burning, disappointed, annoyed. Floating on the surface, he told himself off.
“You hurried too much. Take your time. Prepare yourself. Don’t dive until everything feels right,” he spoke to himself calmly, and he felt the confidence building up inside him. “I can do it. We walked a little farther into the woods when Mark asked me if we could throw rocks into the stream (小溪) to see which one would go to the farthest. I agreed. Then Mark said, “I am going to throw the biggest rock, because I know it will go the farthest.” Mark picked up the largest rock he could find and threw it. Although it made a very big splash(飞溅的水), it didn’t go very far. Mark thought for a minute and said, “I am going to throw a little rock instead.” He picked up a little stone and threw it but it didn’t go very far because it was too little.
I thought this was a very good chance to teach him. I said, “Why don’t you pick up a medium-sized rock and see what happens ”
Mark picked up a medium-sized rock and threw it. Mark said, “Look, the middle-sized rock went the farthest!”
I smiled, “You see, Mark, you are like the middle-sized rock. In this situation the little rock was too light, the big rock was too heavy, but the middle-sized rock was just right. ”

In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braille. He Lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots(点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.
Wasn’t I the “blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students With thoughts running through my head, I found myself deeply attracted in reading and writing. I completed the task in less than 40 minutes. I realized that I was not different from others. I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problem, why should I ever give up
I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words, “See what you can do when you keep trying ”

Their relationship started to deepen as Amanda enjoyed regularly seeing her new “furry (毛茸茸的) neighbor”. The cat was too nervous to be taken indoors, but it was comfortable with Amanda gradually.
However, one day, everything took a different turn. In the morning, Amanda brought a bowl of fish near the porch and waited for the cat as usual, but it didn’t appear. The next day, and the day after that, the cat didn’t show up either. She stepped into the thick grass where the cat usually went and searched carefully.

“Is he giving up ”

I searched the house for Emily, and found her in the basement (地下室). She was drawing something with my crayons. I shouted at her, grabbed (抢夺) the crayons and ran back up to my room, shutting the door with a loud noise. I sat there for at least half an hour.
Later, I heard Emily’s footsteps coming up the stairs. I noticed a folded piece of paper being pushed under the door.
Once it reached my side of the door, I picked it up. As I read the words on the cover, my anger disappeared. Tears began to well up in my eyes. On the paper were the words “Best Sister”. Inside was a picture Emily had drawn of herself, which was a birthday gift for me.
My sister used my crayons to make something special for me. I realized that I had owned the greatest treasure in the world.
I opened the door, reached out to Emily and gave her a big hug.
