Task 3 Answer the questions using information from the video.
1. According to the elephant keeper, in what way are elephants like people
They are like people because if you love them, they will love you too.
2. What is the most important thing elephants must learn at the center
The most important thing they must learn is to make friends, so they can survive together.
Read together
Elephant are…like humans. If you love them, they love you too. They live on Zahim because they don’t have their mothers. Their mothers have been killed by people. Others have been, died because of no food, not food for them—others because of diseases.
Elephant…they love each other, yah. They are like… like, our elephants here, they are not from the same area. They are from the whole country. But when they come here, they make friends.
We take the elephants to the bush.
We stay with them because we have to feed them every 3 hours, day and night. Because the elephants—when they come they don’t have their mothers, and we have to do the work that their mothers do. We have to sleep with them… because when we leave them alone, they cry.
Discuss the questions in groups.
1. Why is this programme important for elephants and for the world
The programme is important because it protects elephants in danger and will stop them becoming endangered, which is good for the world because it protects the diversity of nature.
2. Have you ever taken care of a baby animal In what ways is it similar to or different from taking care of a human baby
I took care of a kitten once. It was like a human baby because it could not look after itself and needed help with feeding. However, it could walk quickly unlike a human baby!
