学生通过本课时的学习,能够: 通过自主提问,整体阅读文本、梳理语篇宏观结构; 了解说明文的基本步骤和该文本的写作技巧; 提炼习惯的关键特征,包括重复性、自发性和不易改变性,理解习惯运转原理; 有信心和能力运用“习惯循环”原理改变不良习惯、塑造良好习惯。
教学内容
本节课的教学内容为人教版《英语》选择性必修第三册第二单元Reading and Thinking中的阅读材料Habits for a Healthy Lifestyle。这是一篇问题解决型的说明文。作者按照“提出问题——分析问题——总结”的脉络,介绍为什么要改变不良生活习惯,养成良好生活习惯的原理和方法。第一段提出问题,作者阐述了坏习惯的危害,并指出青少年应学会尽早识别坏习惯并做出恰当改变。第二、三段分析问题,作者阐明了习惯的内涵、形成及运作原理,为解决问题提供理论基础和依据。第四、五段解决问题,第四段阐述了习惯周期的应用价值,第五段则阐述了改变坏习惯的其他关键因素,包括时间和自律等等。第六段总结全文,并呼吁年轻人认真思考并做出改变,从而建立健康快乐的生活方式。 引导学生利用思维导图梳理语篇结构,建构对习惯这一概念及其运转原理的认识,培养学生逻辑思维能力,提高他们认识问题、分析问题和解决问题的能力。 教学重点: 1. 引导学生掌握问题解决型说明文本的结构特征。

教学过程
Activity1:Lead in Are these healthy habits or unhealthy habits They are unhealthy habits. Are these unhealthy habits easy to change No. 设计说明:激活学生的背景知识,引出话题,为后续阅读做好准备。 Activity2:Predicting If you are the author, what will you write in the passage Should bad habits be changed How are bad habits formed How can bad habits be changed 设计说明:通过标题合理预测文本核心内容,对后续阅读形成期待。培养学生的预测能力以及整体阅读能力。 Activity3:Skimming Read to find out in which paragraph(s) they are answered. Paragraph1 is mainly about the first question, Paragraphs2-3 are about the second question while Paragraphs 4-5 are mainly about the last one. What is the text A√. exposition B. narration C. novel D. argumentation What are the steps of an exposition raise a question→ analyze the problem→solve the problem → draw the conclusion. So this is a problem-solution pattern. 设计说明:学生带着问题展开整体阅读,梳理文本主要内容和框架,探索说明文的结构特点,有助于培养学生的语篇意识。 Activity4: Scanning Paragraph 1 1. Why bad habits should be changed These bad habits, if left unchecked, could lead to more serious ones when they become adults. 2. What should be done to prevent the possible harmful effects caused by the bad habits Students must learn to recognize bad habits early and make appropriate changes. 4. How does the author organize this paragraph The author starts with a fact, then he states an opinion, next, he gives an example to support his opinion. Paragraph 2 1. What characteristics does a habit have Repetitive, automatic and hard to change. 2. How did the author support his opinion By citing a quote 3. What is the function of last sentence It is a transitional sentence serving as a bridge connecting this paragraph and the next paragraph Paragraph3 1. What are the three stages of habit cycle? Cue, routine and reward. 2.How does the author further explain the “habit cycle” The author uses these expressions“Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly,”to make it more logical. Besides, he adopted an example to make his point more convincing. Paragraph4 1. What’s the author’s opinion on the application of the habit cycle Aside from changing bad habits, we can also use the habit cycle to create good habits. 2. What’s the function of the sentence It is a transitional sentence concluding the former information and introduces the following. 3. How did the author support his opinion By giving an example Paragraph5 1.What are needed to change bad habits Time, discipline and effort are need. 2. What does the author use to support his argument By citing a quote Paragraph6 What do“magic pill” and “delete button” refer to “Magic pill” and “delete button” refer to a quick way or a shortcut. That's to say to change the bad habits should take a lot of time and effort. Here metaphor is used. What’s the author’s attitude towards changing bad habits A. Negative B. Critical C. Doubtful D.√. Positive Because the author says “You have the power to build a happy and healthy life full of good habits!” 3. Then come up with an idea of how to break the bad habit. 设计说明:引导学生利用本节课所学的关于“习惯周期”的原理,运用它来改变坏习惯、养成好习惯,建立健康的生活方式。 Activity6: Summary Let’s make a summary of the passage.
