Hello everyone! Meet my new friend Marco. He says Ciao! This means hello in his language. Marco traveled with me this month. When he showed me his country on the map, I was attracted by its shape. The festive atmosphere ( 节日氛围) makes everyone happy.
I was lucky to travel to this country in March and enjoy the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, or La fiera del Libro per Ragazzi. It is held for four days every year. It’s not clear at what age kids begin to dream. Almost every child has a frightening dream and fear of the dark is common.
Nightmares(噩梦)--like most dreams--occur during the stage of sleep when the brain is very active
and sorting through experiences and new information for learning and memory. This part of sleep is known as the rapid eye movement or REM stage.
No one knows exactly what causes nightmares. Dreams and nightmares seem to be one way kids process thoughts and feelings about situations they face, and work through worries and concerns.
Most times nightmares occur for no obvious reason. Other times they happen when a child is experiencing stressor change. Events or situations that might feel unsettling such as moving, attending a new school, or family tensions--might also be reflected in unsettling dreams.
Sometimes nightmares occur as part of a child’s reaction to a natural disaster, accident, or injury. For some kids, especially those with a good imagination, reading scary books or watching scary movies or TV shows just before bedtime can inspire nightmares.
When kids awaken from a nightmare, its images are still fresh and can seem real. So it’s natural for them to feel afraid and upset and to call out to a parent for comfort. By about preschool age, kids begin to understand that a nightmare is only a dream and that what’s happening isn’t real and can’t hurt them. But knowing that doesn’t prevent them from feeling scared. Even older kids feel frightened when they awaken from a nightmare and may need your reassurance and comfort.
Parents can’t prevent nightmares, but can help kids get a goodnight’s sleep--and that encourages sweet dreams.
If a kid is having a nightmare, what may happen
A.The kid falls asleep. B.The face becomes red. C.The brain becomes slow. D.The eyes are rapidly moving
What may cause the kids’ nightmares
A.Moving to a new place. B.Playing games at school. C.Reading an interesting book. D.Watching a wonderful TV show
How do kids who know a nightmare is only a dream feel after a nightmare A.Calm. B.Frightened. C.Sad. D.Excited.
What may the author continue to introduce
A.What causes nightmares. B.How to have sweet dreams. C.When nightmares happen. D.How to avoid hurt after a nightmare.

In a remote corner of Brazil's Amazon tropical(热带的)rainforest, researchers have spent decades catching and measuring birds. Over 40 years, dozens of Amazonian bird species have declined in mass
(质量). Many species have lost nearly 2% of their average body weight each decade, researchers report
November 12 in Science Advances. Some species have grown longer wings. The changes could help birds stay cool in a hotter, more changeable climate, the researchers say.
"Climate change isn't something of the future. It has been happening and has effects we haven't thought of," says Ben Winger, an ornithologist(鸟类专家)at the University of Michigan, who wasn't involved in the research but has documented similar shrinkage(缩水)in migratory birds.
To see if non-migratory birds have also been shrinking, Jirinec and colleagues analyzed data collected from 1979 to 2019 in a remote region in the Amazon that spans 43km. The data include over 11,000 individual birds of 77 species as well as climate for the region.
All species declined in mass over this period, the researchers found. Species lost from about 0.1% to nearly 2% of their average body weight each decade. The motmot, for example, shrunk from 133g to about 127g over the study period.
These changes coincided with an overall increase in the average temperature of 1℃ in the wet season and 1.65%℃ in the dry season. Birds' mass decreased the most in a year or two after especially hot and dry seasons, which tracks with the idea that birds are getting smaller to deal with heat stress.
Wing length also grew for 61 species, with a maximum increase of 1% per decade. Jirinec thinks longer wings make for more efficient, and thus cooler, fliers.
"The Amazon rainforest is mysterious, remote and full of biodiversity," Jirined says. "This study suggests that even in places like this, far removed from civilization, you can see signatures of climate change."
What changes have happened to Amazonian birds over 40 years
They have lost weight.
They have grown prettier.
They have become fewer.
They have become larger.
What do does the underlined phrase "coincided with" in paragraph 5 mean
A.Contrasted with. B.Compared with. C.Agreed with D.Contributed to.
What's a reason for the tropical birds' changes
A.Climate change B.Food shortage. C.Massive hunting D.Scientific research 35.What might be the best title of the text
A.Researchers measuring birds in Amazon B.Climate change shrinking tropical birds
Longer wings improving flying efficiency
Human activities damaging Amazon rainforest

Speaking of self-improvement, perhaps you want to become more productive, read more books, take regular exercise or learn something new. 36 Here we’ve put together this guide to help you.
Observe your emotional reactions.
Our emotions can often overwhelm (击败) us and make us behave in ways we’d rather not. The first step in dealing with your emotions is to recognize your current feelings. 37 You can sit for a few minutes each day and just observe how you feel. 38 However, learning to be with yourself without distractions is an essential part of meaningful self-development. You could be surprised by what you discover.
Develop a way to express your emotions.
Chris Martin, the singer-songwriter and frontman of the band Coldplay, once said, “You've got to express yourself in life, and it's better out than in. What you reveal, you heal.”
39 You can try art, music and sports. Or you can get a piece of paper and a pen and start a healthy outlet. A talk with your close friend, relative, or partner can also help you get peace of mind.
40
Sometimes emotions can be overwhelming even if you undertake all other steps to manage them. In this case, the only left option is to find a therapist (治疗师). Many successful, respected people like J. K. Rowling, Emma Stone, and Michael Phelps all promote therapy’s benefits. Turning to these professionals is one of the best ways to improve yourself. These trained professionals can provide guidance and support when it comes to coping with your emotions.
Work with a licensed therapist.
Receive professional training as therapists.
This can feel incredibly uncomfortable at first.
There are so many ways to let out your emotions.
Remember you can’t manage what you don't know.
It will help you improve your concentration.
Have you thought of learning to control your emotions

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn’t see some rain soon, we would lose everything.
I was in the kitchen making lunch for the family when I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasn’t walking in his usual way. He was obviously walking with a great effort, trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house.
Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow and purposeful steps toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking cautiously to the woods, then running back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of me. I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, being very careful not to spill the water he carried. Branches and thorns slapped( 拍 打 ) his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He had a much greater purpose. As I leaned against a tree to spy on him, I saw the most amazing site.
Several large deer appeared threatening in front of him. But Billy walked right up to them. I almost screamed for him to get away. And I saw a baby deer laying on the ground, obviously suffering from heavy loss of water and heat exhausion, lift its head with greateffort to lap( 舔 饮 ) up the water in my beautiful boy’s hand.

读后续写:
When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. my cusiosity once again drove me to follow him back. After he reached the kitchen, he turned on the tap. As he was trying hard to cup both hands to receive the water, it was still running away through his fingers. And he also had great difficulty turning off the tap with hands occupied. He seemd to be so sorry and self-condemned for his wasting of water. wearing a note of upset on his face, he carried it carefully toward the woods.
And later I knew what was going on. It began to make sense to me why he wasn’t walking in his usual way. I stood on the edge of the woods watching the most beautiful heart work so hard to save a life. As my tears began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops…and more drops. It was as if the nature itself was moved by the great effort made by my son and began to weep with pride.
