Unit 4 Exploring literature Workbook I
I 、Design intention
It is required that senior student should develop listening, reading and writing ability skills to listen for information, to read for knowledge and to write for pressure .I think the important things in the teaching are student’s learning and teachers' teaching. Teacher should lay emphasis on important points and difficulty points. Only in the way, student’s interest is motivated. Based
on the above, the teaching design is to be done.
II 、Analysis of the teaching material
There are two listening materials and one reading material in this session. In A1, a radio host is talking about J.R.R.Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings. After listening A1, you should number the events in his life in the correct order. A2 is about a conversation, in which the two novels of J.R.R.Tolkien are introduced. Part B is about a students’ book report of Les Miserables,
which involves the basic information, the plot and the student’s opinion about Les Miserables.
III 、Analysis of the students
Senior students are active in thinking and curious about everything. They have the ability to
communicate with each other, about the target material, but they still have some difficulty

expressing their thoughts and what they want to say, so teachers ought to adopt different
approach in-larder to stimulate students’ interests.
IV 、Teaching objectives
By the end of this section, students will be able to:
1. Collect the information of the J.R.R.Tolkien ;
2. Know the format of a book report;
3. Understand the differences between the books and the novels;
4. Compose a book report.

1. To collect the information of the J.R.R.Tolkien by listening the tapes;
2. To compose a book report of your favourite book.

Step 6 1. Students work in groups to discuss their favorite work of literature. Students are expected to use the expressions and the structure listed by the teacher. Students check their short paragraph from the aspects of punctuation, spelling, grammar, choice of words, style. 2.
