ObjectivesActivitiesAssessmentLearn the project of making a brochure to introduce famous people and the changes of common peoopl’s life in Wenzhou. Ss learn the project: While Tony was visiting Jiangxin Island, he noticed a very special couplet(对联). He became interested in famous people in Wenzhou. Also he is curious about the changes of people’s life in Wenzhou. Please make a brochure to introduce them to Tony.How to finish the projectSs discuss and figure it out with three tasks:Task1: Introduce famous people in Wenzhou.Task2: Introduce the changes of people’s life in Wenzhou.
Task 3: Make a brochure.Observe if students understand the project.Observe if students can share their ideas actively about how to make a finish the project by working in groups.Purpose: To share the project at the beginning of the class, ss will have a clear mind about what they are going to do in this class by discussing in groups. The activities can help ss to recall the knowledge they learned about travelling which provides support for the next step.2.Summary the structure of the passages and form checklists. And use the checklists to introduce famous people’s life.Task 1: Introduce famous people in Wenzhou.Learn Hans Andersen’s life. Read and complete the passage with proper verb forms.Summarize the rules of simple past verbs.How to introduce a famous person 3.1 Ss learn to analyse the passage from the content and structures. The passage was written from comments, life history and achievements. 3.2 ss learn to analyse the life history was written with different ways of time expressions and with time order.4. Summarize the checklist After analyzing the passage, ss are supposed to discuss in groups to try to make a checklist for describing famous people.5.Introduce a famous personAfter the steps above, it’s time for students to try to introduce the famous person with the information they searched from the Internet before class. After a student describes his famous person, the other students can make a comment by I think he can get ____ scores because ____.Observe if students can use the simple past verbs correctly.Check if students remember the rules of regular simple past verbs. .Observe if students can analyse the content, structures and expressions properly.Observe if students have the ability of summarizing how to introduce a famous person from content and language. Check if students can introduce a famous person with the information they prepared before class and the checklist they made just now. Observe if students can comment peer’s work with the checklist. Purpose:Help ss understand utterly about how to make a brochure through two tasks: How to introduce famous people and how to introduce the changes of people’s life. Ss learn to think critically about the development of our hometown through the passage Grandpa’s past life.Summary the structure of the passages and form checklists. And use the checklists to introduce the changes of common people’s life.Task 2 Introduce the changes of people’s life in WenzhouComplete a passage about grandpa’s past life.Then ss check by reading. Ss are supposed to focus on the simple past tense both the positive and negative forms.Analyse the structure.From the passage, ss can easily find out the two parts of the passage: topic sentence and details. Think-pair-shareSs try to figure out the feature of the passage. If it’s difficult for them, two questions can help them. Q1: What tense does it use Q2: How does the writer introduce grandpa’s past life Ss think about the second question before discussing with partners in pairs.After that, comes the third question: what can we learn from the comparison Ss can discuss and answer: It show people’s life has changed a lot in Wenzhou. Make a checklist Introduce the changes of your family’s life5.1 Ss get out the prepared chart about their life ten years ago by asking parents.5.2 Ss use the chart and the checklist to introduce the changes of their family’s life comparing with the life ten years ago.5.3 After a student made a report, the other students can give their comments by I think he can get ____ scores because ____.6.
