When the camping began, we had different tasks to do. I was preparing the food with my group members while my teachers and the monitor were setting up the tent. There were also some classmates spreading the picnic cloth. When all was prepared, we began enjoy ourselves. Some of us were playing musical instruments when some were dancing to the music and singing songs. My teachers were having the barbecue while some were making salads. There were also some students playing games.
This event is very important to me because we all had great fun that day. In addition, the camping trip helped us relax a lot and get close to nature.

An important event that I remember well is the lockdown of the city of Wuhan. It happened on January 23rd,2020. I heard the news on TV.
I was doing my homework when I heard the news.My friends were playing chess. And my parents were cooking lunch in the kitchen. I told them about it. We all felt shocked.
This event is very important to everybody because that means the virus put us in great danger. It was terrible and it made lots of people lose their lives . Also, I remember this event well because half a month later, my mother left for Wuhan to work as a volunteer. When the opening began, my parents and I were having dinner. My friends were watching TV.We finished it quickly, then we sat in front of the TV to watch it. It was great.
The 2008 Olympic Games was very important for the Chinese. Because it was the first time for China to have the Winter Olympic Games. It has also made Beijing the world's first city of double Olympics. We won the most gold medals. It showed that our country was becoming stronger and stronger.

【重点语法】
过去进行时
含义及构成
过去进行时表示过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行或发生的动作,其结构为:was/were+doing。
用法:
①表示过去某一段时间内正在进行的动作。
如:We were having classes all that day.那天我们整天都在上课。
②表示过去某一时刻正在进行或发生的动作。与过去某一特定的时间状语连用,常见的有:at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, in those days, at this time yesterday等。
③表示过去一个动作发生时,另一个动作正在进行,持续时间长的动作用过去进行时,常用在while引导的时间状语从句中。
when与while在引导从句时的区别
用when引导的状语从句表示时间,说明一个动作发生时,另一个动作正在进行,也可表示正在进行某一动作时,另一动作发生了。
如:The students were drawing pictures when the teacher came in.当老师进来时,学生们正在画画。
My pen dropped on the ground when I was walking in the park.当我正在公园散步时,我的钢笔掉在了地上。
用while引导的从句一般用过去进行时,表示正在进行某个动作时,发生了另一个动作,这时主句用一般过去时。如:While he was reading, the telephone rang.当他正在看书时,电话铃响了。
过去进行时与一般过去时的区别
过去进行时强调某一动作是在过去某时正在进行,一般用到的动词是表示具体行动,动作可延续的,同时用到的时间状语表示的范围要小且具体。而一般过去时对谓语动词没有什么限制,用到的时间状语范围不受限制,一般过去时着重表示在过去做过,基本上是一个结束了的动作。表过去状态,抽象,不表具体动作行为的动词不用过去进行时,但可以用一般过去时。
如:Mr. Green was mending his daughter’s bike this morning.(强调动作正在进行)
Mr. Green mended his daughter’s bike this morning.(表示动作做过,并结束了)
【重点句型】

一般过去时表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的
状态(强调一次性动作);
过去进行时表示在过去某一时刻或某段时间 正在进行的动作(强调反复的动作)。
e.g: 昨天晚上她写了点儿东西。He wrote something last night.
昨天她整个晚上都在写东西。He was writing something all night last night.
I practiced for four hours every day and my piano teacher came three times a week to help me. 我每天练习四个小时,我的钢琴老师一周三次来帮我。(Self Check 2)
to help me 动词不定式在句子中作目的状语
We made a fire to keep us warm.我们生火来保暖。
to keep us warm就是make a fire的目的
Let’s go to the shop to buy some bread.让我们去超市买一些面包。To buy some bread就是go to the shop的目的
不定式作目的状语,可以放在句首,也可以放在句末。一般来说,用于句首属于强调性用法,即强调动词的目的。
To get 100 points, we must study hard.
3.While I was walking home from school, I saw a strange light in the sky. (Self Check 1)
While my brother was laughing, the television news reported that other people had seen the light as well.(Self Check 1)

这三个句子,结构是一样的,While+过去进行时,主句一般过去时
while引导的时间状语从句强调主句动作在从句动作进行的过程中发生,从句的谓语动词必须为延续性动词,常用进行时。
从句用过去进行时,主句用一般过去时。
While I was watching TV, Tom came in.
强调主句动作发生时,从句动作正在进行,常用while引导从句。主句常用一般过去时,从句常用过去进行时。
当我正在河边钓鱼时,我看到附近有一条空船。
While I was fishing by the river, I saw an empty boat nearby.
While I was sleeping in the bedroom, someone knocked at the door.
David fell while he was riding his bike.
While Amy was reading a book,I came in.

短语point out sth. point out意为“指出”,其中out是副词。
如果它后面的宾语是代词,则必须把该宾语放在out之前。
如: Please point out the mistakes in my composition.请指出我作文中的错误。
There is a mistake in the spelling, please point it out.
point to和point at都含有“指着”的意思,两者一般可以互换。
但主语是事物时,一般用point to作谓语。
point at可以分开使用,即point后直接跟名词或代词作宾语,再跟介词at表示方向,意为“把……指向”,而point to却不能分开使用。
如:The soldier pointed his gun at the doctor.士兵用枪指着医生。
pass away 意思是:(时间等)消磨掉;去世;终止;停止
Poor novels do pass away with their time .
不高明的小说确实随着它们的时代过去而过时。
His ill humour will soon pass away .
他的坏心情很快就会消失。

Jason and his father were going to the grocery store by car to pick some apples. It was an unusual day. The sky was dark but there were few clouds. As they drove up the street, there started to be a rumbling (隆隆的) sound heard across the ground.
Jason’s father immediately realized that a tornado (龙卷风) was coming. He stopped the car and told Jason to get out immediately. Jason and his father got out of the car and made their way to the closest building. By this time the wind was blowing harder, and it was hard to see or hear. Debris was falling all over the place. Jason couldn’t see his dad anymore. He also realized that he wasn’t getting to the building fast enough. He was afraid he would be picked up by the wind and thrown into the air.
As he made his way towards the building, he noticed a field to his right. He could see an irrigation ditch (灌溉渠). In panic, he scrambled (爬) to the ditch and lay flat on the ground. More debris and objects flew overhead. His heart was beating hard, and he was nervous. He had never been in a tornado before.
