people in Barcelona can know that. The app Cool Walks will help people find

There was once a river. People believed it could bring bad luck to
anyone who crossed it while carrying more than one thing with him at a time.
A farmer faced this problem when he arrived at the west bank (河岸) with
his cat, a hen and a bag of rice. Of course, the simplest way was to make
three trips, carrying one item (物品) on each trip. The real question was, which one should he
take first
If the farmer took the rice over first and left the cat and the hen behind, the cat would attack
(袭击) the hen. On the other hand, if he took the cat first and left the hen along with the rice, the
hen would eat the rice. However, if he took the hen first and either of the remaining (余下的)
items next, it would be also unsafe.
As the farmer was thinking, the boat was ready to leave. It was late afternoon. He had to
decide quickly or he would not be able to complete his trips. Suddenly, the farmer said to
himself, “I shall take the hen first.” He jumped onto the boat just in time. On his second trip, the
farmer crossed the river with the rice. Then instead of leaving the hen with the rice, he carried it
on his return journey to the west bank. On his third trip, he put the hen down and took the cat
across to the east bank. He then went to get the much-traveled hen and crossed the river for the
last time.
With all three items safe and sound, the farmer continued his journey, glad that he had
solved the problem.
21. Why did the farmer only carry one item on each trip
A. Because the boat wasn’t big enough.
B. Because he wanted to keep every item safe.
C. Because he was worried about being unlucky.
22. What would happen if the farmer left the cat and the hen on the east bank
A. They would be caught by others.
B. The cat would fight against the hen.

Many people exercise every day or every other day. You may be the same. But what about
those times when you are sick If you do not feel well, should you keep following your daily
exercise habit
Laskowski, a doctor, says that right exercise is usually OK if you have a common cold.
Laskowski and other doctors have a common rule about it. “It is usually fine to exercise,”
he says, “if your symptoms (症状) are all ‘above the neck’, such as a runny nose, a sneeze (喷嚏)
or a minor (轻微的) sore throat.”
Laskowski also says that exercise may make you feel better and help you breathe more
easily. An American health website gives a similar idea.
Geralyn Coopersmith, a physical fitness trainer, has written some books on exercise. He
says, “The rule is that if you take some medicine and don’t feel so sick, it’s OK to exercise.”
However, both Coopersmith and Dr Laskowski say taking a break is better if your
symptoms appear “below the neck”, such as a serious cough or pain in the stomach.
If you don’t feel too bad, they both advise cutting back on the intensity (强度 ) of your
exercise. For example, if you usually run, take a quick walk. When you feel better, you can
exercise with your usual intensity. However, Dr Laskowski says that exercising when you have
more than a common cold could bring “more serious illness”.
26. How does the writer start the passage
A. By giving an example. B. By asking questions. C. By listing some numbers.
27. When should patients (病人) stop exercising according to Dr Laskowski
A. When they have a stomachache.
B. When they just feel a little tired.
C. When they have a minor sore throat.
28. What does the underlined phrase “cutting back on” probably mean in Chinese
A. 保持 B. 增加 C. 减少
29. What can we infer (推断) from the passage

Hi, my name is Ben. My family — that’ s Mom, Dad and I — live in Broome in Western
Australia. Western Australia is about 80 times larger than Italy, but only 1.5million people live
there. 31 It has a population of about 12,000. It’s right on the coast (海岸) and is known
for its famous Cable Beach, which is 20 km long.
32 At weekends I often go fishing or swimming with my friends or my parents. We
drive to Cable Beach and look for a quiet place to swim or to fish. We don’t go swimming from
October to March because there may be box jellyfish (箱型水母) in the water. The box jellyfish
is one of the most dangerous jellyfish. 33 If you are attacked (攻击) by one, then the
best thing is to pour vinegar (醋) over the area of your body where you are hurt. That’s why we
always take a bottle of vinegar with us.
Another dangerous animal in Western Australia is the saltwater crocodile (鳄鱼 ). A year
ago I went camping in the bush with my friend Bill and his dad. We wanted to do some fishing
and set up camp about 20 meters from a river. 34 Bill’s father told us to get up and we
quickly got out of the tent and ran to the car, which was only 10 meters away.
35 In the light, we could see a big crocodile pulling the tent into the river!
