Life can be boring if we don’t have any dreams. Do you have any dreams
My dad’s dream is to sail (驾驶帆船) around the world. He often talks about it with his best friend.
This summer holiday, my father decided to borrow a boat with his best friend and take us all to a lake to test his skills.
They borrowed a big boat and began the journey on a sunny day. Everything went well on the first day. The water was calm (平静的). There was no wind. It felt like my dad’s dream was coming true.
But the next day, when we sailed to the river that connected to the lake, a strong wind came up. The boat started to bounce (上下晃动). It was a little scary. The mothers tried their best to hold the kids.
The river got wider and wider. And the waves (波浪) became stronger. The wind was blowing our boat far from land. My dad had trouble controlling the boat. His best friend came to help but failed. They decided that we should go back.
We made it safely back to a place where the water was calm. Dad said, “Today we learned a good lesson. It is good to have dreams. But it is also important to properly prepare before trying to achieve them.”
Dad’s dream is still to sail around the world. He knows that dreams will come true if you really want them to. But he also knows that he has a lot to learn before setting out on the open ocean.

Brandon Collins-Green is a man from Canada. Because of his love for Chinese poetry, he spends nearly 10 hours a day translating Chinese poems into English. He has translated more than 1,000 Chinese poems in about six years.
After he finishes translating a poem, Collins-Green often writes down the English version (版本) on a piece of paper with a brush pen, and then draws a picture beside the poem, hoping to fully show the beauty of Chinese poetry.
Collins-Green is now studying for his doctor’s degree (博士学位) in China. As a Chinese poetry lover, the man started to study Chinese poems and translate them into English years ago. During the process, he has also got a deeper understanding of the Chinese language.
Collins-Green had thought about learning another foreign language after his Chinese was good enough, but that day hasn’t arrived yet because he has found that there’s always new knowledge to learn in Chinese.“The language is worth a lifetime of learning,”said Collins-Green.
Collins-Green has a small workshop (工作坊) near his university in Beijing. There, his works can be seen rising to a height of nearly half a meter. “This place is small, but I like it very much because this is where I can pay attention to my translation work and can be productive (多产的),”said Collins-Green. “When my friends at home see my works, they also think that Chinese poems are really interesting,” Collins-Green said. Have you ever done something that you didn’t really want to do, just because other people were doing it All of us feel pressure to fit in (相处融洽) sometimes, and this can lead us to pretend (假 装) that we like something more than we actually do.
In fact, when we do this, we’re not being true to ourselves. It’s important to be honest about your feelings with yourself because this can help you feel happier and less worried.
Being true to yourself means listening to your own thoughts and feelings. If you want some time alone, then being true to yourself might mean saying no to friends who want you to join them for an activity. Or if there’s a game that your friends invite you to join in but you don’t enjoy, then being true to yourself might mean doing something else instead. Being true to yourself is when your actions match how you really feel.
When we keep doing things we don’t like and ignore our thoughts and feelings, we may feel uncomfortable, worried or sad. Naomi Richards, a life coach for children and writer of Being Me (And Loving It) says, “Children need to know who they are, their values and their beliefs (信条). If children have this self-awareness (自我意识), then they may not easily turn to doing things they know are wrong.”
So you may ask,“ ▲ ”One part of being true to yourself is in how you speak to other people, and being OK with saying no. Richards explains, “You can be true to yourself by learning how to say no.”However, she adds that being true to yourself is also about “being honest with yourself and what you really want and need.”Finally, Richards says, “You can learn how to be true to yourself by being yourself — not by changing your thoughts and actions to fit in.”
( )32. The writer started the passage by _______.
A. telling a story
B. raising a question
C. comparing some facts
D. giving some suggestions
( )33. What’s Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The meaning of being true to oneself.
B. The difficulty of being true to oneself.
C. The advantages of being true to oneself.
D. The importance of being true to oneself.
( )34. What does the underlined word “ignore” in Paragraph 4 mean in Chinese
A. 解释 B. 表达 C. 描述 D. 忽视
( )35. The best sentence for “ ▲ ” is “_______”.
A. Who knows me best
B. How can I be true to myself
C. When should I say no to others
D. Why do I have to be true to myself

书面表达
One possible version:
What makes a good teacher
Different people have different opinions about what a good teacher is like. For me, a good teacher has to be a lifelong learner.
There’s no other teacher who influences me more than my English teacher Mrs. Li. She shows me that learning is a lifelong journey. My teacher has taught English for over 25 years, but her class is always full of surprises. She tells us that continuing to learn is her secret to making her class interesting. She is open to new experiences and ideas. I remember she once said that learning was the only way to avoid falling behind in the fast-changing society. She has set a good example to me and made me realize the importance of learning.
That’s why I think she is a good teacher.
