教学过程
Activity 1 Predict the content of the video Teacher presents a picture to students to introduce the topic of this lesson. Q: What does this picture show you Q: What’s your impression on it Q: Based on the picture and the title, can you guess what is this video about 【Justification】Students can review what they have learnt from the reading passage on page 54 by a picture and predict the content of the video based on that picture and the title to get prepared for their viewing. Activity 2 Learn about the formation and effects of tsunamis by exercises Based on their prediction, Teacher firstly invites students to finish exercises in Before you watch individually. Then Teacher invites students to spend 30 seconds reading the three statements in exercise one of While you watch. 【Justification】By finishing the exercise in Before you watch, students can learn about the formation and effects of tsunamis briefly and also get familiar with some difficult new words and expressions, like “tectonic plates” and “expand in all directions”. By reading the three statements before watching, students can get well prepared to know the formation and effects of tsunamis from the video and also they can follow the video more easily. Activity 3 Learn about the formation and effects of tsunamis by watching for the first time Teacher invites students to watch the video for the first time to check whether their prediction is correct or not, to check their answers in Before you watch and finish exercise one in While you watch. Q: Did you get the correct prediction Q: Did you get the correct answers in Before you watch Q: How about your answers for the three statements 【Justification】By watching the video for the first time, students can learn about the main idea of the video and check their prediction. Meanwhile, they can also learn some details about the formation and effects of tsunamis by doing and correcting the exercises in Before you watch and While you watch. Activity 4 Learn about the formation and effects of tsunamis by watching for the second time Teacher invites students firstly to read four statements in While you watch, and then to watch the video for the second time to finish the exercises. Q: Now could you please read the statements together in While you watch Q: Are you ready for the second play 【Justification】By watching the video for the second time, students can figure out more detailed information about the formation and effects of tsunamis, so that they can think deeply and get prepared for their discussion. Activity 5 Share effective measures by watching for the third time Teacher invites students to watch the video for the third time and try to answer the following three questions. Q1: What have you learnt about tsunamis Q2: How can we prevent the tsunami from becoming a disaster Q3: What kind of help do you think people who have suffered from a tsunami need 【Justification】By watching the video for the third time, students can review their knowledge about tsunamis from this video and think deeply about the relationship between nature and human beings, so that they will be willing to brainstorm some effective measures to prevent the tsunamis from becoming a disaster, reduce mortality and help those who have suffered from a tsunamis.
Homework You may choose either of them, but don’t forget to use what we have learnt in class. Make a poster to tell people about tsunamis. 2. Make a presentation on tsunamis.
