Thirty-Six Stratagems (计谋), which show the ancient Chinese wisdom, are our ancient culture treasure. And
many of them can still be put into practice in many fields, such as business and daily life. The following are four of
them. Let’s enjoy the charm of our traditional culture.
Stratagem One
When a thief is in your house, you’d better shut your doors at once in order to prevent him from running
away. Why There are two reasons. First, if you let your enemy run away, he will come back. Second, once your
enemy succeeds in running away, it is dangerous for you to chase him.
Stratagem Two
This stratagem is from a poem by Du Fu. A line in the poem reads “To shoot the man on horseback, shoot
his horse first; to catch the robbers, capture their leader first.”
In a war if you want to beat the enemy, attack the leader first. Once the leader is caught, his forces (部队)
will break down and fall into chaos.
Stratagem Three
The Chinese always believe that tigers are more powerful when they are in the mountains. Once they leave
mountains, they will become less powerful. And there are a few Chinese sayings linking tigers with mountains.
The stratagem advises you not to directly attack an enemy in his own area. Instead, you should try to make him
leave his place first, making him lose the geographical advantage. In this way, your enemy will be beaten easily.
Stratagem Four
Experienced fishers all know how to prevent a hooked(上钩的) fish breaking the fishing line. Move the
line from side to side to gradually make the fish get tired and calm down, and then you can catch it easily. In the
same way, once your enemy is trapped, he will often struggle, trying to run away. Leave him the false feeling
that he still has a chance to run away. When he gets tired and loses his guard, you can catch him with less
difficulty.
51.Which of the following describes Stratagem Two
A.Shutting the door to catch the thief. B.Catching your enemy’s leader first.
C.Letting the enemy off to catch him later D.Tricking the tiger into leaving the mountain,
52.What does the underlined word “chaos” mean in Chinese
A.稳定 B.混乱 C.平静 D.疯狂
53.Why will Fishers sometimes move the fishing line from side to side
A.To protect the line. B.To make themselves more powerful
C.To win the geographical advantage D.To prevent a hooked fish escaping
54.From the stratagems above, we know that ________.
A.it is wise of you to attack enemies in their own places
B.it is impossible for people to make others lose their guard
C.it is dangerous to give your enemies a chance to run away
D.it is better to shoot the man on horseback first
55.Where can we probably read Thirty-Six Stratagems
A.In a guidebook. B.In an art book. C.In a science fiction D.In a classical book.

“Milano Cortina 2026 might be my last Winter Olympics. Whatever the result will be, I have only one goal,
which is to go beyond my earlier results,” 33-year-old Olympic champion Xu Mengtao said at her book launch party
(新书发布会).
Xu was born in 1990 in Liaoning Province. Her parents ran a BBQ restaurant, where Xu would help out during
holidays. Xu started her sports career at the age of 4 as a gymnast, before changing to freestyle skiing aerials
(自由式滑雪空中技巧) at the age of 12, when she was considered too tall to continue gymnastics.
Xu has won 55 freestyle skiing aerials championships so far, but they have come at a cost.
Xu has had four operations on her knees. When she took part in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, there
were steel pins (钢钉) in her knees. Just as at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and the Sochi 2014 Winter
Olympics, she wanted to get an Olympic gold medal. Unluckily, she failed to achieve her goal, although she tried
her best.
But failures, painful injuries and lonely months of recovery didn’t stop her. Xu finally realized her dream at
the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics by completing three somersaults (空翻) on her final jump.
In her book, Xu records her true feelings about her life over the past 30 years, her memories of heart-stopping
international competitions, the number of medals she won, the low points she managed to overcome and her full
preparation for each competition. “Plan each jump, review each problem and look for every possibility. The real
situation is unpredictable, so I have to be fully prepared,” Xu wrote in the book.
“I hope my personal experience can encourage more people to go after their dreams,” Xu added. “Don’t stop
trying. It’s hard to say when your efforts will pay off, but they will do surely at the most important moment.”
56.Why did Xu take up another sport when she was 12
A. She was too old to do gymnastics. B. She wanted to try something else.
C. Her physical condition had changed. D. Her parents didn’t allow her to continue.
57. What does at a cost in para3 mean

C. Someone helps her on the way to success. D. She gets good results easily.
58.In Xu’s book, we can learn ________.
①how she got along with her schoolwork ②what honors she received

A.①② B.①③ C.②④ D.③④
59.Which of the following words can best describe Xu
A.Lucky and kind B.Quiet and patient. C.Calm and talented. D.Strong and hard-working.
60.What does Xu want to tell us through her story
A.Never waste time. B.Keep your goal in mind.
C.Be so proud of yourself. D.It’s never too old to learn.

My father and I were both angry. “Never set foot in this house again!” shouted my father. With tears in my
eyes, I rushed out to the street.
I walked aimlessly. A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I seemed to see my childhood
from another space: happy.
But now... I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because my dad is getting old. We have
different ways of thinking. He always puts his opinions on me. We are just like two people coming from two different
worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.
I walked in the streets. My heart was cold on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and
fewer people in the streets, until I had only the street lights with me. When I finally reached the building where I
lived, I saw that the light was still on.
I thought to myself: “Is my father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me ”
In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, my dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they
were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except my
father’s.
Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed
any moments of regret. However, after an argument he has the habit of tucking me underneath the covers (掖被子)

while I am sleeping.
This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become
his second nature.
The light was still on. “Am I wrong ” I whispered, maybe ... With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I
had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly
realized that there wasn’t the iron door that I had imagined between us at all. Love — it’s second to none.

The Chinese language differs from Western languages in that, instead of an alphabet (字母表), it uses
characters which stand for ideas, objects or deeds. Chinese words are formed by putting together different characters.
In many cases, a single character can also make up a word. As one kind of the most ancient characters, Chinese
characters have played an important role in the development of Chinese culture.
Chinese writing began thousands of years ago. According to an ancient story, a man named Cang Jie invented
Chinese writing. One winter day while he was hunting, he saw the footprints of animals in the snow and noticed
that the appearance of each one was different. Then he had the idea that he could use different shapes to represent
different objects. The first Chinese characters were drawings of physical objects. Some characters have been
simplified (简化) and others have been made more difficult over time.
However, as a whole, the characters have developed from drawings into standard forms. The character for a
mountain was at first three mountaintops together. This became one mountaintop and three lines, and over time
turned into the character used nowadays.
Sometimes to express ideas, some characters were made by combining two or more characters together. For
example, “休” was made up of the characters for a man and a tree. The character “囚” was formed with a “man”
inside a square. Other characters were developed for directions and numbers. It is easy to distinguish (区别) their
meanings by looking at them, for example, the characters for “up” and “down”, which are opposites of each other.
Though these kinds of characters indicate meanings, one of their shortcomings is that they do not show how
they should be pronounced. Therefore, a method was developed to have one part of a character represent the
meaning and the other suggest the pronunciation. Many Chinese characters used today were made this way.
In the 1950s,the Chinese government introduced simplified Chinese characters in the hope to make learning
to read and write more understandable to the general population, which would increase literacy (读写能力) across
the country. And now they have widespread use in China’s mainland.
66. The writer introduced the Chinese characters by ________in para4.
A. giving examples B. providing causes C. expressing opinions D. comparing facts

Seeing someone who seems to be walking on a cloud sounds like a dream. But this scene indeed exists(存
在) --- and it isn't just in your head. It's a popular attraction in the South American country of Bolivia called the
Salar de Uyuni (乌尤尼盐湖). The area covers a large amount of white, glistening(闪亮的) salt and runs across
10,582 kilometers of the Altiplano and you can even see it from space.
What's special about the Salar This salt flat (盐田) can create an endless natural mirror, which gives you an
amazing experience. On a still day, water covering the salt changes the salt flat into "The World's Largest Mirror"
reflecting the sky. Those who are lucky enough to see this natural wonder will tell you how difficult it is to find out
the dividing line between the sky and land.
Some 40,000 years ago, water from the surrounding mountains gathered here and there were no outlets (出口)
where the rainfall could flow out. So a huge lake was formed with natural salt inside. Over time, about 25,000 years
ago, high temperatures reduced the rainfall in the area. The climate from wet to dry caused the water to slowly
evaporate (蒸发). About 10,000 years ago, the body of water dried up and a deep layer(层) of salt flat was left
behind.
With about 10 billion tons of salt lying around it, it's no surprise that salt production in the Salar is a big
business. But the real treasure lies under the surface of the salt flat, where around 70% of the world's lithium (锂)
reserves can be found. The lithium is used for powering mobile phones, laptops, electric cars and this resource could
be of great value.
