The Past Continuous Tense (过去进行时态)
1.定义：过去进行时态表示过去某一时刻或某一阶段正在进行着某种事情及动作。
2.构成：was / were +动词-ing形式(动词的现在分词)
时间状语: last night, at eight / nine ... (o’clock) yesterday morning, at that time, from eight to ten yesterday morning等。
e.g. Lily was taking a hot shower at nine last night.
请仔细观察下面几个进行时态的句子，并总结出动词变为现在分词的规则。
I was doing my homework just now.
He was playing the piano.
They were dancing in the hall.
He was writing some words.
He was running.
She was swimming.
My parents were shopping just now.
动词现在分词的构成规律
1) 一般情况下，在动词原形后直接加-ing. 如：work—working (工作) do—doing（做）play—playing（玩）
2) 以不发音的字母e结尾的动词，去掉e，再加-ing. 如：
dance—dancing（跳舞） come—coming（来）
(但动词词尾是字母组合ee的,就不能去掉词尾e，而应直接加-ing。例如: see—seeing)
3) 重读闭音节单词，如果末尾只有一个辅音字母，则双写这一字母，再加-ing. 如：
get—getting(得到) shop—shopping（购物）
run—running（跑） swim—swimming （游泳）
4) 以ie结尾，改ie为y, 加ing.如：lie—lying(躺) die—dying(死亡)
3.句式：
肯定式：主语 + was / were + 动词-ing形式 (+其他).
e.g. I was swimming at that time.
否定式: 主语 + wasn’t / weren’t + 动词-ing形式 (+其他).
e.g. They weren’t listening to music at ten yesterday morning.
一般疑问式: Was / Were + 主语 + 动词-ing形式 (+其他)
肯定回答：Yes, 主语(人称代词) + was / were.
否定回答：No, 主语(人称代词) + wasn’t / weren’t.
e.g. —Was Joe reading at the time of the rainstorm
—Yes, he was. / No, he wasn’t.

含义: 表示现在或最近正在进行和发生的动作。
结构: be (is /am /are) + doing (动词-ing形式)
例句: I am having an
English class now.
含义: 表示在过去的某个时间正在进行或发生的动作。
结构: be (was /were) + doing (动词-ing形式)
例句: I was having an English class at this time yesterday.
过去进行时和一般过去时
过去进行时 一般过去时
基本用法 表示在过去的某一时刻或时段正在进行的动作。 过去发生过的动作或存在的状态。
结构 主语+was/were+动词-ing形式 主语+动词过去式
时间状语 at 7 yesterday, at that time, this time last night等 yesterday, last week, in 2022, a few days ago等。
区别 强调动作正在进行 强调动作已经完成
过去进行时中的when和while
when和while都可表示“当……的时候”, 引导时间状语从句。
① I was walking to school when I saw a cat in a tree.
② When Sally arrived home, her mother was cleaning the house.
主句的动作是持续性的，而从句动作是短暂性的，此时用______引导时间状语从句，主句用__________时态，从句用一般过去时态。
