A few months ago, a friend gifted me a robot sweeper that’s programmed to move around a room and clean as it goes.
When the box arrived, I was afraid the device would detect me and suck up (汲取) data along with the dog hair and dust. But the instructions were easy, and I finally decided not to care.
I powered up the sweeper, watched it leave its docking station to work, and quickly fell in love with my newly shiny floors. I kept shooting its working videos. “I think you’re giving more attention to it than to us,” joked my son.
One day, I returned home and discovered that our front door had blown open and the robot rolled into the yard, trying to clean the flower beds. Even when its brushes were blocked with leaves, bugs and mud, its little wheels bravely kept turning.
The robot acted properly as it was programmed to clean “dirty” things. In a kitchen, dirt can be garden debris (碎片) such as leaves and mud. In a garden, this kind of dirt does not need to be removed. The context is important. The problem for robots is that reading this context is difficult.
This accident inspired me to think more about AI (artificial intelligence). As far as I am concerned, AI is simply well trained and reproduces what it has learned. And it is undeniable that robots are increasingly being given powerful intelligence. Some experts even predict that we will soon see not only AI-enabled robots designed to solve problems according to their instructions, but also those with the ability to judge how they should respond when they are in a different setting.
Maybe this will happen in the near future.
4. What was the author’s concern about the robot sweeper at first
A. Its after-sales service. B. Its working efficiency.
C. The privacy of her family. D. The readability of its instructions.
5. How did the author feel about the robot sweeper after using it
A. Enthusiastic. B. Regretful. C. Uncertain. D. Cautious.
6. What was the root cause of the accident happening to the robot sweeper
A. Its program went wrong. B. It lacked critical thinking.
C. Its wheels were badly designed. D. It failed to work on rough surfaces.
7 What does the sixth paragraph mainly talk about concerning AI
A. The accident. B. Some experts’ thinking.
C. Its appeal to the author. D. The author’s opinion.
C 5. A 6. B 7. D
由文章第二段中“When the box arrived, I was afraid the device would detect me and suck up (汲取) data along with the dog hair and dust. (当盒子到达时,我担心设备会侦察我,并将数据连同狗毛和灰尘一起吸走。)”可知,起初,作者对扫地机器人的担忧是怕它侵犯她的家人的隐私。故选C。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第三段“I powered up the sweeper, watched it leave its docking station to work, and quickly fell in love with my newly shiny floors. I kept shooting its working videos. “I think you’re giving more attention to it than to us,” joked my son. (我启动扫地机,看着它离开坞站开始工作,很快就爱上了我新买的锃亮的地板。我一直在拍摄它的工作视频。“我觉得你把更多的注意力放在它身上,而不是我们身上,”我儿子开玩笑说。)”可推知,作者使用扫地机器人后对扫地机器人充满热情。故选A。
由文章第五段“The robot acted properly as it was programmed to clean “dirty” things. In a kitchen, dirt can be garden debris (碎片) such as leaves and mud. In a garden, this kind of dirt does not need to be removed. The context is important. The problem for robots is that reading this context is difficult. (这个机器人的行为是正确的,因为它被编程来清理“脏”的东西。在厨房里,污垢可以是花园的碎片,比如树叶和泥土。在花园里,这种污垢不需要清除。背景很重要。机器人面临的问题是,解读这种背景是很困难的。)”可推知,发生事故的根本原因是机器人缺乏批判性思维。故选B。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。由文章第六段中“This accident inspired me to think more about AI (artificial intelligence). (这次事故激发了我对AI (人工智能)的更多思考。就我而言,人工智能只是训练有素,并复制了它所学到的东西。不可否认的是,越来越多的机器人被赋予强大的智能。一些专家甚至预测,我们很快就会看到不仅能够根据指令解决问题的人工智能机器人,而且还能在不同的环境中判断自己应该如何应对。)”可知,关于人工智能,第六段主要讲作者的观点。故选D。
C
The world’s animal populations have decreased by more than two - thirds since 1970, according to a recent research from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The London group provided information on 32, 000 wildlife populations which included more than 5,000 species. The researchers found that population sizes had reduced by 69 percent on average. They said the loss of forests, human exploitation(开发) of the environment, pollution, and climate change were great causes of the loss. Land- use change is still the biggest threat (威胁) to wildlife. However, the researchers added, “if we cannot limit warming to 1.5°C, climate change is likely to become the primary cause of biodiversity(生物多样性) loss in the coming years.”
Wildlife populations in Latin American and the Caribbean Sea area were greatly affected. The research showed a 94 percent drop in those areas in over 50 years. Wildlife populations in river and lake habitats decreased the most. Freshwater populations have reduced by an average of 83 percent since 1970. For example, one population of pink river dolphins in the Amazon River area of Brazil fell by 65 percent between 1994 and 2016.
These findings are a red flag that warns of a larger system failure on the horizon. Even one species’ population reduction can affect other species, eventually impacting the ecosystem’s (生态系统) ability to function. Humans depend on a stable climate, predictable weather patterns, and productive farmland and fisheries to thrive(蓬勃发展), but the current trends are severe enough to threaten many life-sustaining systems.
Our future depends on reversing(扭转) the loss of nature just as much as it depends on addressing climate change. And you can’t solve one without solving the other. Everyone has a role in reversing these trends, from individuals to companies to governments. If nothing changes, animal populations will undoubtedly continue to fall, driving wildlife to extinction and threatening the wholeness of the ecosystems on which we all depend.
8. What is the greatest threat to wildlife populations recently
A. Illegal hunting. B. Global warming.
C. Land- use change. D. Environmental pollution.
9. How does the author explain the reduction of freshwater wildlife in Paragraph 3
A. By listing figures. B. By analyzing the causes.
C. By making a comparison. D. By referring to a concept.
10. What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. Climate change threatens many wild animals.
B. Farmland is the basis of life- sustaining systems.
C. Extreme weather events have become more frequent.
D. Species variety is important to maintain a stable ecosystem.
11. What is the main purpose of the text
A. To explain the difficulty of restoring ecosystems.
B. To call on people to take action to protect nature.
C. To present the increasing trend of climate change.
D. To show people’s efforts in making up for the loss of nature.
C 9. A 10. D 11. B

For example, one population of pink river dolphins in the Amazon River area of Brazil fell by 65 percent between 1994 and 2016. 故选A。
根据第四段“Even one species’ population reduction can affect other species, eventually impacting the ecosystem’s (生态系统) ability to function. (即使一个物种的数量减少也会影响到其他物种,最终影响到生态系统的运作能力。)”可知,物种多样性对维持稳定的生态系统很重要。故选D。

Mirroring body language is a way to bond and to build understanding. It is a powerful tool that we use without even knowing it.
The most obvious forms of mirroring are yawning and smiling. When you see someone yawn, you are likely to yawn immediately. Smiling is also pretty contagious—seeing a smiling person makes you want to smile too.
Mirroring body language is a nonverbal way to say “I am like you or I feel the same”. Research shows that people who experience the same feelings are likely to trust, understand and accept each other. Women have the natural ability to pick up and understand body signals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a woman is more likely to mirror another woman than a man is to mirror another man.
That’s why women are regarded as better talkers, even if they might not really have more close friends.
Mirroring body language is an excellent way to build trust and understanding quickly. If you want to set up a connection with others, mirror their gestures, sitting position, tone of voice and talking pace. This will make them feel that there is something about you that they like.
While mirroring body language gains you acceptance, you still need to take into consideration your relationship with the person you are mirroring. If you are in a lower social position and are mirroring the body language of your boss, he will view you as rude. However, if you want to defeat those who are trying to prove superior to you, mirroring their body language will help defeat them and change their position.
12. What does the underlined word “contagious” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Affecting each other. B. Showing one’s feelings.
C. Attractive to the others. D. Gentle to people around.
13. What can we know about women from the research
A. They don’t like mirroring others.
B. They tend to have more close friends.
C. They are naturally gifted in building trust.
D They are good at interpreting body language.
14. What is the author’s attitude to the behavior of mirroring the boss
A. Indifferent. B. Curious. C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. The Common Forms of Mirroring
B The Excellent Method of Mirroring
C. Mirroring Body Language:A Useful Tool
D. Nonverbal Communication:A Special Bond
A 13. D 14. D 15. C

根据第三段的“Women have the natural ability to pick up and understand body signals. Therefore, it is not surprising that a woman is more likely to mirror another woman than a man is to mirror another man.(女性有天生的能力来接收和理解身体信号。因此,一个女人比一个男人更可能模仿另一个女人,这并不奇怪)”可知,女性擅长解释肢体语言。故选D。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“While mirroring body language gains you acceptance, you still need to take into consideration your relationship with the person you are mirroring. If you are in a lower social position and are mirroring the body language of your boss, he will view you as rude.(虽然模仿肢体语言会让你获得认可,但你仍然需要考虑你与你所模仿的人的关系。如果你处于较低的社会地位,并且模仿老板的肢体语言,他会认为你很粗鲁)”推知,作者不赞成模仿老板的肢体语言。故选D。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章的主要内容,尤其第一段“Mirroring body language is a way to bond and to build understanding. It is a powerful tool that we use without even knowing it.(模仿肢体语言是一种联系和建立理解的方式。它是我们在不知不觉中使用的强大工具)”可知,文章主要介绍了模仿肢体语言是一种强大的工具。C项“模仿肢体语言:一种有用的工具”可以作为文章的最佳标题。故选C。

第二节 (共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Diets have changed in China — and so too has its top crop. Since 2011, the country ____36____(grow)more corn than rice. Corn production has jumped nearly 125 percent over ____37____ past 25 years, while rice has increased only 7 percent.
A taste for meat is ____38____ (actual) behind the change: An important part of its corn is used to feed chickens, pigs, and cattle. Another reason for corn's rise: The government encourages farmers to grow corn instead of rice ____39____ (improve) water quality. Corn uses less water ____40____ rice and creates less fertilizer(化肥) runoff. This switch has decreased ____41____ (pollute) in the country's major lakes and reservoirs and made drinking water safer for people.
According to the World Bank, China accounts for about 30 percent of total ____42____ (globe)fertilizer consumption. The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture finds that between 2005—when the government ____43____ (start) a soil-testing program ____44____ gives specific fertilizer recommendations to farmers - and 2011, fertilizer use dropped by 7.7 million tons. That prevented the emission(排放) of 51.8 million tons of carbon dioxide. China's approach to protecting its environment while _____45_____ (feed) its citizens "offers useful lessons for agriculture and food policymakers worldwide." says the bank's Juergen Voegele.
36. has grown
37. the 38. actually
39. to improve
40. than 41. pollution
42. global 43. started
44. that/which
45. feeding
故填has grown。
故填the。
故填to improve。
故填than。
指物用that/which,故填that或者which。

I had just a very wonderful day. Although all my days are always wonderful to me, the day was completely different. There was a bulletin board saying that they would need to find volleyball players for the girls and I was so happy! I have been loving playing volleyball since my mother taught me how to play. I was so excited that I couldn’t wait to play! Then I read more what was on that bulletin board, which said that there would be an audition (面试) after three weeks! “Three weeks ” I thought about it. I did know how to play volleyball but I was not much of an expert in doing it but I still wanted to try.
After that I was determined to practice volleyball every day. I practiced hard again and again each day and I never got tired of doing the same practice through all the days, and finally, the day came. I was so prepared for this and hurried to the gym to audition. When I had reached the gym, I was surprised to see that 12 or 14 girls were lining up and I guessed I was the last one to arrive. Then our audition began. Some of the girls failed to pass the audition and some passed.
There was only 1 slot left to complete the 6 girls to join the volleyball team and suddenly I felt nervous because the person in front of me was going to take her serve (发球). Then the girl hit the ball and then… the ball didn’t pass over the net. The girl slapped her forehead and left, leaving me standing in the middle of the court.
Then the coach spoke, “Okay, you, serve! ” She handed me the ball and I caught it with my hands. As the ball was in my hands, my hands were suddenly sweating and so was I!

One possible version:
I then suddenly became nervous about this. “Maybe I should be back of,” I told myself. And my legs began to shake. My mind went blank. For a moment I wanted to give up, but then it occurred to me that all of these practices that I’d done were all for the audition and I don’t want to be disappointed. Suddenly confidence returned to me. I practiced this for today; I was determined to do this, so I had to do this with all my fighting spirit! I had the ability to pass the audition. Then I stared at the volleyball in my hands and was ready to throw it out.
Then I began. I came to a pause, taking a deep breath. I only glanced at the net, swung my hand and hit the ball and it… and it… and it… Yes! And it passed over the net! My coach stood up clapping her hands. All the people in the gym cheered. I felt very proud and jumped with joy. At that moment I knew my practice for three weeks did pay off. And from it I know if you have devoted yourself to something, you will get the reward.

7. What does the sixth paragraph mainly talk about concerning AI
A. The accident. B. Some experts’ thinking.
C. Its appeal to the author. D. The author’s opinion.
A Climate change threatens many wild animals.
C To present the increasing trend of climate change.
D. To show people’s efforts in making up for the loss of nature.
D
D. They are good at interpreting body language.
14. What is the author’s attitude to the behavior of mirroring the boss
A. Indifferent. B. Curious. C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. The Common Forms of Mirroring
B. The Excellent Method of Mirroring
C. Mirroring Body Language:A Useful Tool
D. Nonverbal Communication:A Special Bond
