Volunteering for the Special Olympics World Games (Reading II)

【Teaching Aims】: By the end of this lesson, the students will
a. have a further understanding of the whole text about the Special Olympics and volunteers' work.
b. be able to use some important words and phrases from the text properly.
c. have a deep understanding of being a volunteer and helping others.
【Teaching Procedures】:
Step1: Lead in
(Play a short video about the volunteers in the YOG before class).
Talk about the volunteers in the YOG and lead in the topic of the Special Olympics.
Step2: Revision
Review the structure of the paragraphs about the Special Olympics.
Step3:Character analysis and More practice
a. Teacher helps students analyze the two main characters by comparing their feelings before and after the Special Olympics.
b. Students are encouraged to use the target words and phrases to show people's feelings under different circumstances.
Step 4: Consolidation and Presentation
(Play a short video about the recruitment of volunteers in the YOG)
Ask students to present a short play about how volunteers work and what volunteers gain from their work. Ask more people to join the volunteer team.
Step5: Homework
Think of a slogan and design a poster to ask more people to be volunteers. (1+1>2 )
