Florence, a 17-year-old student in senior high school, was busy composing a song. She planned to release an album with three other music lovers whom she met at the 2016 Campus Singing Competition. Edward, 18, is another one of the four students to make their own album. Actually, he is the one who came up with this fun idea in the first place.
“Everyone loves music. Being a good way to express our feelings and emotions, music can tell something about who we are and our experience of the world. We hope we can use our music to touch our peers(同龄人),” Edward said.
The album includes 15 songs across three themes—love, campus life, and youth, with pop and electronic music styles. The inspiration for the songs came from the students' lives. Take the song Sea of Tranquility for example—it was written by Edward during a flight back to Chengdu after he took part in the China High School Biology Olympiad in summer. “The sky is clear and the ground looks small from the plane. This scene makes me feel calm and peaceful,” Edward explained.
The songs were created one by one with the efforts of the four composers. But a challenge soon appeared. The students found that they didn't have enough money to produce the album. So to cut down their budget, they used an iPad and headphones to record the songs in an empty classroom on the weekend.
Apart from reducing their costs, they also tried to raise money through crowd funding on the Internet. They raised more than 7,000 dollars before the album was released in October. “Thanks to all the supporters, we'll keep working on our own music,” Edward said.

A work of art created by artificial intelligence(AI) has been sold by a major art seller for the first time. The print sold for an unexpectedly large amount of money, $432,500. The artwork was bought during an auction(拍卖) Thursday at Christie's, an art auction house, in New York City. Officials had predicted it would sell for between $7,000 and $10,000.
In a website post, Christie's said the AI-created work was the first ever sold by a major auction house. It praised the sale as a signal of “the arrival of AI art on the world auction stage”.
The artwork, called “Portrait(肖像)of Edmond Belamy”, was made by a machine having learnt the algorithm(算法). The AI system was created by members of an art group called “Obvious” in Paris, France. It shows the portrait of a man, looking similar to subjects shown in historical paintings. Christie's described some differences between the AI-created work and other artworks it had sold. For example, it said some parts of the face were not drawn as clearly as those painted by artists. Also, some parts of the print were left empty. However, the sales organizer of Christie's, Richard Lloyd, said the piece was very similar to many others sold over many years.
Three creators from the art group Obvious cooperated in the process of making the print. First, they put a collection of 15,000 portraits into a machine learning system. The portraits were painted by artists from the time period between the 14th and 20th centuries. Then a tool called the “Generator” made a new image based on the information entered into the system. After that, another tool, called the “Discriminator”, attempted to find differences between the human-made image and the one created by the Generator. Then the image was improved. “The aim is to fool the Discriminator into thinking that the new images are real-life portraits. Then we have a result,” Hugo Caselles-Dupré, a member of the Obvious group, said in a statement.
8.What can be inferred from the text
A.The AI portrait received much recognition.
B.There is little true artistic value in the AI artwork.
C.Technology will one day replace human artists.
D.There is no similar AI system for art nowadays.
9.What does the underlined word “subjects” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Artists. B.Machines. C.Figures. D.Techniques.
10.What is the final purpose of the “Discriminator”
A.To select useful information from real-life portraits.
B.To help the portrait look more like a human-made one.
C.To put human portraits into the machine learning system.
D.To create a portrait based on paintings by artists.
11.What can be the suitable title for the text
A.The Secrets of AI
B.An AI Portrait
C.Artworks and AI
D.AI Art at Christie's

Every year in May, art galleries and museums prepare shows to honor Leonardo da Vinci, who died in France on May 2, 1519. He is remembered as one of the greatest artists and the most creative thinkers of all time. His most famous paintings are Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.
Recently, researchers have been studying a painting—Landscape 8P which, they think, is Leonardo da Vinci's earliest-known artwork. They used special lighting to study the artwork and discovered that there were two images, not one. One drawing is on the back of the piece, which dates back to August 5, 1473.
The drawing on the front was painted when Leonardo was 21 years old. It shows a river valley and a castle outside the city of Florence. There is little left on the back of the drawing, perhaps because it was wiped off. Only a bridge over a river can be seen. But there is writing on both sides.
The writing on the front gives the date and goes from right to left. Some people would call this “mirror-writing”. It's a way Leonardo often wrote in his notebooks. The writing on the back goes from left to right and tells about an agreement, probably to produce a work of art.
Cecilia Frosinini is an art historian. She said, “Leonardo was born left-handed, but was taught to write with his right hand from a very young age. By looking at his writing, including that from this drawing, we can see his right-handed handwriting is well done.”
Experts compared the two handwriting samples(样本)and said they were both made by Leonardo. They show he could write well using his left hand or his right hand.
The drawing is known as Landscape 8P from its number in an art list. It will be part of an exhibit at Italy's Uffizi Gallery. The gallery director, Eike Schmidt, said, “By studying the drawing, researchers give us a new way of looking at Leonardo's drawing techniques and his abilities in writing.”
12.Which of the following mentioned in the text has been studied by researchers recently
A.Mona Lisa. B.Landscape 8P.
C.Mirror-writing. D.The Last Supper.
13.What does the writing on the back probably tell about
A.A statement about the painting.
B.An introduction about Leonardo.
C.An agreement to produce a painting.
D.Something about the city of Florence.
14.What can we learn about Leonardo from Cecilia's words
A.He could write with either of his hands.
B.He did badly in right-handed handwriting.
C.He wasn't good at writing with his left hand.
D.He taught himself to write with his right hand.
15.What's Eike Schmidt's attitude towards the research
A.Unclear. B.Indifferent.
C.Doubtful. D.Positive.

How to Really, Truly Appreciate a Work of Art
Some people might tell you that taking in a work of art is no different from gazing upon a beautiful flower, or a spectacular sunset. 16 Art is no different—there are places to inspect, aspects to weigh and artistic skills to figure out. Here are a few things to look for. They will help you really and truly appreciate a work of art.
 17
When you look at it, most art just sits there, static(静止的)—a picture or an object on display. But the sensitive eye can rewind the videotape so as to speak and read the way the artwork was made. Were the brushes laid down fast Where was the camera placed Take the time to explain the way of creating the artwork in front of you as a record of a performance.
What is art made out of
Artists love transformation. A nail poking out from a stick of wood in the hands of Susan Collis can be made of pure platinum(白金). 18 As for paintings, marvel(感到惊奇) at the fact that each stroke of paint consists of pigment(颜料).
Does art set you free
Artists often operate from a step off the mainstream, using an outsider's position to offer new perspectives on things we often take for granted and suggest possible alternatives. These can relate to anything from the way Picasso saw a bull's head in a bicycle seat to Robert Mapplethorpe's photographic revelation. 19
How does art connect to society
Art doesn't have to be about anything, but sometimes it's about you, your friends or your political order. 20 Artists frequently use their position to put their own particular lens on society, offering potential futures, or delving into resonant traumas of the past.
A.How was art made
B.How does art connect to older art
C.Take the time to absorb the artist's message.
D.Allow these works to inspire your imagination.
E.It is also about the fate of people half a world away.
F.A sculpture by Al Farrow may be made of bullets.
G.But ask yourself if you really know how to appreciate a flower.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
School mornings were always busy. The first sentence I usually heard was, “It's time to rise!” It was Mom's loudest voice, and there was no way I could pretend not to hear it or avoid it.
By then, I couldn't get to the kitchen fast enough. In fact, it was a race between my sister and me. We usually seated ourselves at the same time, sometimes knocking each other out of our places. After breakfast, we all rushed out to the bus stop as we took our lunch bags that contained a sandwich, fruit, and a dessert.
Then, one day, much to my surprise, there was no dessert in my lunch! What could have happened to it Did Mom forget to make or buy it Oh, well, I thought. It's only one time, so it's no big deal. But, for the next few days, my lunch contained no dessert! So one day, after school, as soon as I got home, I asked, “Mom! Why haven't you been putting a dessert in my school lunch ”
Mom answered, “Why, Eugene, I have been including a dessert in your lunch. If you're not getting it, then who is ”
So then we thought of my activities, and what I did with my lunch each day. As soon as I arrived at school, I always put my lunch in the classroom closet(储物间) along with all of the other lunches. And that brought us to Carl—the bad boy of the third-grade class. The teacher didn't like him in class and would send him to the closet, where he would spend most of his time each day.
Carl lived in a foster home(寄养家庭). He was loud and somewhat of a thief. He would take just about anything that wasn't fastened(盖好), so he wasn't welcome at school. Mom and I decided that with nothing else to do Carl was probably going through the lunches and eating what he liked.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。

第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
My mother and I talked about ways to solve this problem. After some thinking, my mother said she was going to put two desserts in my lunch: one for me and the other one for Carl. And then I put my lunch bag in the classroom closet as usual. One day, Carl stopped me and asked why there were always two desserts in my lunch. I told him that one was for him. He was surprised.
Paragraph 2:
Another day,Carl asked me if he could come to my house and meet my mother. I told him that he would be welcome at our house as long as he did not steal anything. He agreed. After that, Carl would come to our house every day after school and we enjoyed our time together playing games. I learned a lifelong lesson from Mom about how to treat others.
