The male-only “ikumen” course, or parenting course for men, was organized by Osaka-based company “ikumen University” and was priced at 30,000 yen. The course teaches participants how to bathe and dress a baby and also helps them understand a woman’s perspective on parenting through exercises such as wearing a 7kg pregnancy jacket. Participants also learn how to improve communication with a potential partner. Instructor Mr. Takeshi Akiyama said the aim of the course was to help single men look more appealing to potential wives. “I wanted to create a form of certification proving a man’s parenting skills and support for married life,” Mr. Akiyama said. Masaya Kurita, a 31-year-old bachelor living in Tokyo started the course after looking for a wife over the last six months. “During the self-reflection part of the course I’ve realized I have a tendency to hide my weaknesses. In internships (实习期) and jobs that I, now a career woman, have ever had, I’ve watched professionals, experienced and brand-new alike, conduct interviews or present in meetings and many of them appear unprepared and lack confidence. I think they would all benefit from an acting class.
A central technique an acting class can equip you with is improvisation Essentially, skills such as the improvisation principle of “Yes, and …” are beneficial for thinking on your feet. When someone suggests a
new idea, you say “yes” and run with the suggestion. A professional familiar with this technique can entertain and value the contributions of others, promoting a free-flowing exchange of ideas, which inspires a positive, creative spirit that the corporate world longs for.
Both college students and professionals might benefit from the voice and movement training. I used to be afraid of the voice and movement part of acting class. My acting teacher would make us do push-ups and yoga. Then, we’d stand up and moan (呻吟) with varying degrees of voices. I hated this, and lots of other people do, too. But the product of this training is an individual who stands tall and speaks clearly and loudly. Plus, I still use the stretches and warm-ups from class to calm my nerves before presentations.
As an actor, you are a student of human behavior. With that, when you receive a text, you explore your character. For example, if you’re playing a villain (反派角色), you have to approach your character from where it stands. Such an outlook makes for a wonderful leader, one that understands coworkers’ situations and treats them with politeness and understanding.
I’ve borne countless “What are you going to do with a theater degree ” speeches from family and friends. But ultimately, these soft skills are incredibly valuable for young professionals. Acting training will set you apart from the pack.
24.What effect does the principle of “Yes, and …” have on professionals following it
A.It generates positive suggestions. B.It brings about smooth interaction.
C.It offers them good entertainment value. D.It helps them recognize their own contribution.
25.What can we learn from the author’s experience in paragraph 3
A.She is still very nervous of her acting teacher.
B.She is addicted to working on her physical fitness.
C.The training has made her braver and more patient.
D.The training has enhanced her presentation abilities.
26.What does the author want to say by mentioning exploring characters
A.It is a big challenge for most of the student actors.
B.It makes the study of human behavior much easier.
C.It can help people to put themselves in others’ shoes.
D.It may improve the relationship between coworkers.
27.What does the author advise young professionals to do
A.Take an acting class. B.Pursue acting careers
C.Obtain higher degrees. D.Consult family and friends.
【答案】24.B 25.D 26.C 27.A
根据第二段“A professional familiar with this technique can entertain and value the contributions of others, promoting a free-flowing exchange of ideas, which inspires a positive, creative spirit that the corporate
world longs for.
根据第三段“But the product of this training is an individual who stands tall and speaks clearly and loudly. Plus, I still use the stretches and warm-ups from class to calm my nerves before presentations. (但这种训练的结果是一个人站得高,说话清晰响亮。此外,在演讲之前,我仍然会利用课堂上的伸展运动和热身来镇定我的紧张情绪。)”可知,培训提高了她的演讲能力。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Such an outlook makes for a wonderful leader, one that understands coworkers’ situations and treats them with politeness and understanding. (这样的观点造就了一个优秀的领导者,一个理解同事的情况,礼貌和理解地对待他们的人。)”可知,作者提到探索人物是想说明这能帮助人们设身处地地为别人着想。故选C。
27.细节理解题。根据第一段“I think they would all benefit from an acting class. (我觉得上表演课对他们都有好处。)”以及最后一段“But ultimately, these soft skills are incredibly valuable for young professionals. Acting training will set you apart from the pack.(但最终,这些软技能对年轻的专业人士来说是非常有价值的。表演训练将使你与众不同。)”可知,作者建议年轻的专业人士去上表演课。故选A。

When a scent moved gently through the air in the bedrooms of older adults for two hours every night for just six months, their memories skyrocketed. Participants in this study by UCI (University of California, Irvine) Centre reaped a226% increase in cognitive (认知的) capacity compared to the control group. The researchers say the finding transforms the long-known tie between smell and memory into an easy, non-invasive (无创的) technique for strengthening memory and potentially preventing dementia. The team’s study appears in Frontiers in Neuroscience.
The study was conducted through the UCI Center for the Neurobiology of Learning & Memory. It involved men and women aged 60 to 85 without memory disorders. They were each given a diffuser (扩散器) and seven small bottles, each containing a single and different natural oil. People in the enriched group received full-strength bottles. Control group participants were given the oils in tiny amounts. Participants put a different bottle into their diffuser each evening prior to going to bed, and it remained active for two hours as they slept.
People in the enriched group showed a 226%increase in cognitive performance compared to the control group, as measured by a word list test commonly used to evaluate memory. CT imaging revealed better integrity brain pathway. The pathway affects decision-making ability and usually becomes less powerful with age. Participants also reported sleeping more soundly.
Scientists have long known that the loss of olfactory capacity, or ability to smell, can predict development of nearly 70 different kinds of diseases including Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Evidence emerges about a link between smell loss due to COVID and later cognitive decrease. Researchers have previously found that exposing people with moderate dementia to up to 40 different scents twice a day over a period of time boosted their memories and language skills, alleviated depression and improved their olfactory capacities. Later, the UCI team
decided to try making this technique easier for older adults.
28.What does the underlined word “skyrocketed” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A.Dramatically declined. B.Slightly improved.
C.Severely weakened. D.Significantly increased.
29.What do we know about the experiment described in paragraph 2
A.All of the bottles contain the identical natural oil.
B.The given oil amount varies from group to group.
C.Each participant is distributed eight oil-filled bottles.
D.No requirement is for participants except age and sex.
30.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the passage
A.To report a study on scent exposure boosting memory.
B.To show a method to predict development of diseases.
C.To reveal the relationship between smell and memory.
D.To draw public attention to memory loss in older adults.
31.What will the follow-up paragraph most probably talk about
A.The approach to enhancing language skills.
B.The reason behind simplifying the technique.
C.The possibility of relieving severe depression.
D.The solution to recovering olfactory capacities.
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.A 31.B
根据划线词下文“Participants in this study by UCI (University of California, Irvine) Centre reaped a226% increase in cognitive(认知的) capacity compared to the control group. The researchers say the finding transforms the long-known tie between smell and memory into an easy, non-invasive(无创的) technique for strengthening memory and potentially preventing dementia. The researchers say the finding transforms the long-known tie between smell and memory into an easy, non-invasive technique for strengthening memory and potentially preventing dementia.(在UCI (加州大学欧文分校)中心进行的这项研究中,参与者的认知能力比对照组提高了226%。研究人员表示,这一发现将嗅觉和记忆之间长期存在的联系转化为一种简单、无创的技术,可以增强记忆,并有可能预防痴呆症)”可知,香味可以极大地提高老年人的记忆力,因此推断画线词与D项“显著提高”意思相近。故选D项。
29.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“The study was conducted through the UCI Center for the Neurobiology of Learning & Memory. It involved men and women aged 60 to 85 without memory disorders. It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage conservators at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, despite erosion (侵蚀) by sand and wind.
The team is devoted to protecting the 45,000 square meters of murals (壁画) and more than 2,400 painted sculptures of the 735 caves of the site, the construction of which spans about a thousand years, from the 4th century to the 14th century. The cultural relics are the product of the cultural exchanges that took place over centuries on the ancient Silk Road. “Our work, repairing murals and painted sculptures, is to better preserve the caves, which promotes the great Dunhuang spirit of inclusiveness to the world and inspires modern people,” says Su Bomin, director of the Dunhuang Academy.
Commonly seen “diseases” affecting the murals include cracking and flaking, as well as erosion that is caused by changes in temperature and humidity of the caves, and the deposition of salts. To restore a mural requires an all-rounder. Restorers should know painting, master the skills of a mason and have some knowledge of chemistry and physics, to be able to recognize the problems and their corresponding causes and deliver a solution. They must also select proper materials and tools, and conduct experiments, before formally carrying out the restoration and evaluating the effect afterward.
The restoration should respect the original work and aim to maintain the status quo of the murals rather than repainting them. When the restorers find some parts of murals missing or fading away, they never repaint them to create a “perfect” appearance in restoration. “Cultural relics are witnesses of history,” explains Su. “When you pursue the so-called intact (完好无损的) look for artistic reasons, you will lose their key meaning.”
Cave conservation is about continuously solving problems. “It needs a long-term research to better preserve the caves, over a much wider time span that goes beyond our lifetimes,” Su says. But at least, they can keep the current look of the murals for as long as possible.
32.What is the main purpose of paragraph 2
A.To show the popularity of Dunhuang murals.
B.To explain the history of the ancient Silk Road.
C.To stress the significance of the restoration work.
D.To present the ways of protecting cultural heritage.
33.Which of the following best describes the restoration work
A.Demanding. B.Well-paid. C.Interesting. D.Creative.
34.What should restoring murals focus on according to paragraph 4
A.Spotting the faded murals in time.
B.Fixing the missing parts of murals.
C.Maintaining the current look of murals.
D.Repainting to perfect the appearance of murals.
35.Which can be the best title for the text
A.The Artistic Charm of Mural Paintings
B.The Mural Restoration in the Mogao Caves
C.The Successful Experiment on Cave Conservation
D.The Role of the Dunhuang Spirit in Chinese Culture

When the restorers find some parts of murals missing or fading away, they never repaint them to create a “perfect” appearance in restoration. “Cultural relics are witnesses of history,”explains Su.“When you pursue the so-called intact(完好无损的)look for artistic reasons, you will lose their key meaning.(修复工作应尊重原作,以保持壁画的现状为目标,而不是重新绘制壁画。
文章第一段“It’s a race against time, as generations of cultural heritage conservators at the Dunhuang Academy make a great effort to protect the artistic charm of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, despite erosion(侵蚀)by sand and wind.(这是一场与时间的赛跑,尽管受到风沙侵蚀,敦煌研究院的几代文化遗产保护人员仍在努力保护莫高窟的艺术魅力。莫高窟被联合国教科文组织列为世界遗产)”提出保护莫高窟文化的话题,文章第二段至第四段主要讲述壁画修复师的工作内容及其意义,文章最后一段“Cave conservation is about continuously solving problems. “It needs a long-term research to better preserve the caves, over a much wider time span that goes beyond our lifetimes,” Su says. But at least, they can keep the current look of the murals for as long as possible.(洞穴保护就是不断地解决问题。苏说:“为了更好地保护这些洞穴,需要进行长期的研究,研究的时间跨度要比我们的有生之年长得多。”但至少,他们可以尽可能长时间地保持壁画的现状)”可知,本文主要围绕着敦煌莫高窟的壁画修复工作展开。由此可知,The Mural Restoration in the Mogao Caves适合作本文最佳标题。
If you’re an aspiring director that wants to start a successful film career, you should start by creating your first short film. While it can seem like a daunting task at first, with the proper strategies, creating a short movie is just a matter of having good ideas and utilizing common filming techniques.
Think of an idea for a short film. 36 Focus on one core idea so that the short story isn’t overly complicated. Consider what kind of tone you want for the film and whether it will be a horror, drama, or experimental movie.
37 If you don’t want to write your own script, you can search online for scripts that other people have already written. If you plan on shooting your short film to make a profit, make sure to reach out to the screenwriter to get their permission to use it. Some screenwriters will sell you their script for a fee.
Look for locations. Find locations to match the script. Ask small businesses and shops if you can use their locations for a short film. If the film takes place indoors, you may be able to use your own apartment or house. If the shoot is happening outdoors, find a safe and legal place to film. 38
Rehearse the scene. Once the actors get onto the set, have them go through a basic reading of the script. Then, have the actors act out the scene. As they go through the scene, tell the actors what you want them to do, how to interact with the environment, and let them know of any modifications that you want to see in their acting. 39 The read through of the script can be done anywhere, but you should try to do the blocking on set.
In addition, if the actors have to wear a cultural or religious piece, be sure to study it. Don’t just throw the piece on. 40 If you are on a tight budget, you can have the actors provide outfits from their own wardrobe, but make sure that what they find meets your vision.
A.Search for scripts online.
B.Be as accurate as possible.
C.Do a rough cut of the scenes.
D.This process is known as “blocking the scene”.
E.Select filming equipment that meets your needs.
F.Think of a short story that you want to tell in under 10 minutes.
G.Getting permits to shoot on private or public property can sometimes be very expensive.
【答案】36.F 37.A 38.G 39.D 40.B
F“Think of a short story that you want to tell in under 10 minutes.(想一个你想在10分钟内讲完的小故事)”具体解释了“短片”的含义,在词汇上“Think of”是对前文的原词重现,前后衔接紧密。故选F项。
根据后文“If you don’t want to write your own script, you can search online for scripts that other people have already written. If you plan on shooting your short film to make a profit, make sure to reach out to the screenwriter to get their permission to use it.(如果您不想编写自己的脚本,您可以在线搜索其他人已经编写的脚本。如果你打算拍摄短片来赚钱,一定要联系编剧,获得他们使用短片的许可)”可知,该段核心介绍的是“网上找剧本”。选项A“Search for scripts online.(在线搜索脚本)”贴合该段主题。故选A项。
38.根据设空前文“If the shoot is happening outdoors, find a safe and legal place to film.(如果是在户外拍摄,找
G“Getting permits to shoot on private or public property can sometimes be very expensive.(获得在私人或公共场所拍摄的许可有时会非常昂贵)”补充了“费用昂贵”这一信息,与前文衔接紧密。故选G项。
39.根据前文“As they go through the scene, tell the actors what you want them to do, how to interact with the environment, and let them know of any modifications that you want to see in their acting.(当他们走过场时,告诉演员你想让他们做什么,如何与环境互动,并让他们知道你想在他们的表演中看到的任何修改)”讲到了导演与演员之间的一系列具体互动,由此推知,设空句应是对这种具体互动进行总结。选项D“This process is known as ‘blocking the scene’.(这个过程被称为“封锁现场”)”提到的专业术语“封锁现场”即为前文的总结,“This process”回应前文内容,“blocking the scene”呼应后文的“the blocking”,前后衔接紧密。故选D项。
40.根据前文“In addition, if the actors have to wear a cultural or religious piece, be sure to study it. Don’t just throw the piece on.(此外,如果演员必须穿着文化或宗教服装,一定要研究一下。

故填who。
故填were undertaken。

故填to have traveled。
故填an。

Eli looked up at the sky. It was bright blue, his favorite color. As he lay on his back, the soft green grass brushed against his arms and legs. The cool wind kept him at the perfect temperature, and the weather was just right for playing outside. Every summer vacation, he and his family drove to the small city of Ithaca to visit his mother’s family.
Just as Eli was starting to fall asleep in the backyard, his stomach growled “Time for dinner” he thought. So he stood up and began to walk back to the house. Suddenly he noticed something move out of the corner of his eye. It was near the woods in the back yard. Then he heard some rustling So he went to check what it was. When he got closer, the object stopped moving. He walked over quietly until he could see something lying in the grass — it was a baby deer!
Even though Eli was standing very close to the animal, he found it strange that the baby deer didn’t try running away. Eli rushed into the house and told his mother what he had found. “Well, we should check if the deer is injured. If not, we shouldn’t do anything because its mother will come back and take care of it,” she told Eli. So the two of them walked to the baby animal. Eli’s mother walked very slowly and finally got close enough to the deer.
Eli watched his mother frow n as she examined the baby deer. She walked back to Eli. “I think its back le g is injured,” she said. “But we’ll wait for a few hours and see if the deer’s mother comes back for it. If we do anything now, we might scare it and hurt it more.” Eli wanted to help the baby, but he knew his mother was right. They went
back into the house and had lunch. They both kept checking the clock.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
As the sky was getting dark, the little deer was still lying there.

Twenty minutes later, a big rescue truck drove into their driveway.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As the sky was getting dark, the little deer was still lying there. Eli lost his patience and couldn’t wait any longer, so he hurried his mother to save the deer since its mother wouldn’t come back. “Alright. I will call the rescue center so they can take the deer away for professional treatment,” Eli’s mother agreed. While his mother made the phone call, Eli slowly approached the deer. It couldn’t move with its leg injured but still awake. Just as he was about to reach out to comfort the deer, his mother stopped him, “Eli, you might scare it. The rescue truck will be here soon.”
Twenty minutes later, a big rescue truck drove into their driveway. Seeing two rescue personnel get off the truck, Eli ran over to them. Eli and his mother briefly described the situation and guided them to the deer. The rescue personnel checked the deer carefully, carried it to the truck and placed it in the back. “Don’t worry. We will take good care of it!” The two told Eli and his mother, and then they drove away. Eli felt a great sense of relief. “I just helped save that baby’s life!” he thought proudly.

When someone suggests a new idea, you say “yes” and run with the suggestion.
C
Later, the UCI team decided to try making this technique easier for older adults.

They went back into the house and had lunch. They both kept checking the clock.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
