In many ways, my interest in language learning began with my grandmother. She moved from Switzerland to England when she was young and I was always amazed that she spoke English to me, Italian to my grandfather and French or German on the phone to her relatives and friends. I always imagined she could be a translator of books, she didn’t learn English at school, but picked it up by herself when she came to England.
It’s hard for me to understand how someone can speak several languages so well. I can just speak a bit of Italian and German by listening to her. And I hardly use other languages in my own job. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to learn other languages. In my eyes, being able to ask for a meal in a restaurant on holiday in a non-English speaking country would be great. Most important of all, it would be nice to talk with people from around the world.
In fact, language learning is easier now than ever because of new technology. For example, recording your voice helps you see how well you’re doing and helps you continue to improve. There are apps to help you learn new words. However, I still think going to class improves conversation skills and helps you quickly deal with mistakes. So, it’s better to combine different methods.
4.How many languages can the writer speak (不超过5个词)

____________________________________________________________________________________________6.What does the writer think of new technology (不超过15个词)

A young man went to his first teacher, “I expect to make my life better and more beautiful. Please tell me the way about how to make it.”
The teacher gave him some cotton and one candle. And then he also provided one needle (缝衣针) for him. After that, the teacher said. “Take these and now you can leave.”
After getting those things, the man couldn’t know the reason and asked why. His teacher smiled, “Each thing I gave has deep meanings of their own.” He continued, “The cotton shows the beauty, and it is used to make beautiful clothes for every person. That means to protect all the people’s safety, beauty, money and spirit. The candle will burn and help people see clearly. It means you should try to be like a candle. Today was a very special day for me and my friends Jack and Linda. We had a charity (慈善) sale to raise money for a children’s home. It started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 4:30 p.m.
We were very excited about this charity sale. To prepare for the sale, I took some of my favorite toys to sell, including a cute toy bear. I spent ninety cents buying it. Jack brought lots of interesting storybooks and he has already read them twice. Linda brought some of her old clothes because the clothes didn’t fit her anymore, but they were still clean.
Finally, many of our neighbors came to the sale and bought what they needed. Someone bought my little bear, others bought Jack’s books and Linda’s clothes. Everyone was very kind. After checking the money, we gave it away to the children’s home. We really did a good thing for others by ourselves.
Helping others will leave us with wonderful memories. We hope that more and more people will join us to do something good for the children in need. We all should know that small actions can make a big difference to the world! Let’s do our best to make the world better.
