Although Shenzhen had good results after starting sorting garbage (垃圾分类) in 2020, we still need to know that the garbage is increasing (增长的) too fast. In 2020, Shenzhen made 29, 000 tons of garbage and it went up by 5, 000 tons in 2021. So people need to develop the habit (习惯) of sorting garbage. Some schools, hospitals, companies and families are good at sorting garbage. A school in Luohu District started sorting garbage six years ago. It is famous for having an “environmental protection bank” to encourage students to sort garbage. The teachers write down the recyclable (可回收的) things such as milk boxes, paper and glass the students collect every day. Then they give them points according to (根据) the recyclable things in the bank. In this way, the school helps students develop a habit of sorting garbage.
A lady in Yantian District said her family was named as a “good garbage-sorting family”. They have two garbage bins at home for kitchen waste and other waste. Besides, they set up two areas to collect useless waste and recyclables. Her family members also help others sort garbage in a right way.
Also, technologies (科技) like AI robots will be used for helping people sort garbage. In fact, garbage sorting is not really difficult. We just need time to practice it. It is very important for everyone to start sorting garbage from our own homes.

From tiny seeds(种子), great discoveries grow. A mini-garden carried on China's Chang'e 4 moon lander recently became home to the first plant to grow on another world.
This is yet another success for Chang'e 4. On January 2, the probe(探测器)became the first lander to touch down on the far side of the moon. This is the unknown face of the moon that is always looking away from us, so we never see it from down here on the earth. Although it is often regarded as the dark side of the moon, the far side actually gets as much sunshine as the near side. For example, when all we can see is a silver sliver of a new moon, the far side of the moon is in full sunlight.
Part of Chang'e 4's mission(使命)is to see how a moon base could be built for humans, including exploring(探索)whether humans could grow food and other plant products there. Chang'e 4 carried a mini-garden with air, water and soil with seeds planted in it. When plants shoot on the earth, their stems grow away from the gravity(the force that keeps your feet on the ground), and so they always shoot upwards. The moon's gravity is a sixth as strong as the earth's, so Chang'e 4's experiment was a test: would the earth plants know which way was up on the moon Four days after landing, a tiny cotton shoot showed that they do.
Night has now fallen on the far side of the moon; sunlight will not return until the start of February. As a result, the cotton shoots died. Besides the darkness, the plants can't stand the cold(it can drop to -170℃ on the moon at night). However, the experiment is a success, since it has proved that it is possible for plants to grow in space.

Happy Rain on a Spring Night
Good rain knows its time right;
It will fall when comes spring.
With wind it steals in night;
Mute, it moistens each thing.
O’er wild lanes dark clouds;
In boat a lantern looms.
Dawn sees saturated reds;
The town’s heavy with blooms.
(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
This famous poem was written by a famous poet Du Fu (712—770) when he was living and farming in Chengdu. His farming experience taught him to be thankful to nature.
The first word, “good”, shows his joy and love for the spring rain. The rain is good because it “knows” the right time to come. When the rain comes, it appears during the night without making any noise. Unlike the thunder (雷) and lightning of summer storms, the spring rain finishes its task without being known.
In the third couplet (对句), the poet describes a peaceful scene (场景) to us. In the night sky, the clouds look dark and heavy. It’s a sign that there will be enough rain during the night. The light from the riverboat makes the dark scene a bit livelier. At last, the poet starts to imagine (想象). Tomorrow morning, he thinks, the city of Chengdu will become beautiful when all of the flowers bloom (盛开) after the rain.

①As missing children get older, they become quite different from the faces in their last-known photographs, which makes finding them really difficult. Now AI (人工智能) can make it easier to match any found children to those old photos.
②Police can use software (软件) to age photos of missing people, but it seems to work best in adults, as age-related changes of adult faces are much easier to predict and to make.
③Unlike adults, the faces of children change greatly as time goes by, and matching photos of found children to old images (画像) in a database (数据库) of missing children is difficult. “Even with a recent face image of a child, it is quite hard for a human to recognize (辨认), visually, who the child is from a large data set of child face images,” says Debayan Deb at Michigan State University.
④Now Deb and his teammates have created an algorithm (算法) to work out the problem. They created a face-recognition algorithm on data sets, which have images of nearly 1,000 children between 2 and 18 years old. And they took photos of them at least four times over a period of six years.
⑤AI learned to match recent photographs of children with images taken 2.5 years earlier. The correct matching rate can be 80 percent. With one year between the two photographs, it was 90 percent correct at recognizing faces. This dropped to 73 percent after three years. The new AI might help to improve accuracy (准确性) of this kind of software, too.
⑥Deb’s next goal (目标) is to make the age gap wider. His team also hopes to develop an app to fight against the sale of children.

B.To build a database to find the missing children.
C.To help the police change and improve their software.
D.To tell the difference between adults and children.
21.What can we infer from the passage
A.Deb’s team has already made the age gap wider.

My dear boys and girls, good morning. Today I’m going to talk to you about my suggestions about how to become stronger.
As the high school entrance examination is coming soon you might feel a bit worried or nervous. These feelings may make you stressed out and fail to focus on your studies. But think about it. Would your favorite superhero have these same feelings
Scientists have been studying what they call the “Spider-man Effect” in children. They’ve found that if kids imagine themselves as a powerful person-such as a superhero like Spider-man, they won’t feel so nervous and will be able to focus on their work. Imagination and fantasy can play an important role in achieving the things we fear.
For example, if you feel nervous during an exam, try to imagine that you are Spider-man. You may find that you can “remove” the stress from this situation and feel more confident. This can help keep you fight off bad feelings and focus on your task, just like a superhero would. Of course, it doesn’t mean that you should dress like the Spider-man. Pretending to be powerful makes us feel powerful and that will have an influence on how we act in real life.
But you don’t have to believe in superheroes for this. Anyone you admire can encourage you to get through hard times, or remind you of how you should act in certain situations. Movie stars, famous painters, even our own parents-anyone can be our “Spider-man”. For example, when it comes to how I communicate with others, I like to look toward my mom for inspiration. She is a middle school teacher who is always kind, thoughtful and brave. I try to act the same way like her.
Thanks for your listening. I hope you can find your own strengthen to overcome the difficulties in your life.
27.This passage is probably ________:
A.a story B.a speech C.a letter D.a diary
28.During a difficult exam, you can imagine yourself a Spider-man to ________.

A.giving an example B.comparing facts C.telling a story D.raising a question
30.According to the passage, we can infer that ________.
A.scientists believe that the “Spider-man Effect” can help children focus on their work
B.anyone you look up to can be your “Spider-man”
C.the writer may sometimes have problems communicating with people
D.children can become stronger and more confident by watching movies about superheroes

The best tool you use in communicating with parents is to keep talking to them, no matter what it is about. Strong relationship depends heavily on keeping the lines of communication open. Try to talk about everyday things with your parents. That doesn’t mean telling them everything. In fact, turn the focus onto them for a change: Ask about their day—just as they do with you.
Jim,15, is a junior school student. One day, after he said that he was thinking of trying out for the school play, his mom kept asking about it for weeks. Instead of telling her how he felt, Jim decided it would be easier not to tell her anything he was doing in the future.
A good way to get parents to ask fewer questions is to offer some information on your own. This puts the communication in your hands. The more you tell them about everyday things, the less they will municating everyday things has another advantage: It can show your parents that you are responsible enough to make good decisions. Though it won’t be easy, do not give up. The parents need time to get used to it as their kids become independent. To many parents, they believe their years of experience put them in a better position to make decisions. If you think your parents are like that, talk to them about it.
31.The underlined phrase “turn the focus onto them” in paragraph one maybe means ________.
A.do something good for them B.talk the things about them

Coffee is popular around the world. Many people like drinking coffee to make them feel energetic. But from an environmental point of view, making coffee causes more carbon emissions (碳排放).
As we all know, climate (气候) change is a big problem. Cutting down carbon emissions is one of the most important ways to deal with it. A German company called PROBAT hopes that its newly developed hydrogen-fueled roasters (氢能烘焙机) could help to deal with carbon emissions in the coffee industry.
Thomas Koziorowski, the CTO of PROBAT, said, “The traditional making process of coffee produces a lot of CO2, and it is difficult for the coffee industry to cut down its bad influence on the environment.” __▲__, the company has been working on inventing a kind of machine that uses clean energy for years. And the company believes that green hydrogen (氢气) is the future of coffee roasting because it is the clean energy with near-zero carbon emissions.
Using hydrogen-fueled roasters is one of the best ways for the coffee industry to cut down carbon emissions. However, there are also some challenges. For example, the machine uses hydrogen from renewable energy like wind power. But whether there will be enough renewable energy to make hydrogen is a big problem. Every day after school, I usually spend time on a very popular app called Keep. Every time I open it, four words come into sight: Selfdiscipline (自律) Brings Me Freedom.
However, selfdiscipline for many people means suffering (痛苦) rather than pleasure. Some people are influenced by some videos to form “perfectly” shaped bodies in a strict way. And then they decide to be as selfdisciplined as people in these videos. But life doesn’t go the way most of us expected. For example, when the cold hits, people have to give up their exercise plans for a while. There are many difficulties preventing us from being selfdisciplined. Every step towards our goals brings us suffering. And sometimes the pressure we have put on ourselves only keeps making us feel worse.
I used to be sad about this, too. Later, through tries and mistakes, I found a perfect way to solve this problem: setting shortterm goals and going step by step. After thinking about different tasks that could make me give up, I realized that most of them shared the same thing—they brought more suffering than joy.
Why not divide a “huge” task into smaller ones to solve the problem For example, it’s hard to lose 20 kilograms in a short time. But what about 2 kilos This seems much easier to achieve and brings us less pressure. We can finally achieve the same goal. What’s more, we will get much pleasure through everyday progress. In this way, selfdiscipline has never been suffering for me. Instead, it has become my own power.
43.For many people, selfdiscipline will bring them ________.
A.pain B.pleasure C.experience D.freedom
44.After feeling the pressure, the writer ________.
A.shared her problems and asked for help B.tried her best to get through it

45.The writer’s main purpose of writing the passage is to ________.
A.help us lose weight step by step B.encourage us to find more pleasure
C.ask us to keep selfdiscipline in our life D.teach us to overcome our difficulties
46.How does the writer develop this passage
A.Express ideas→give examples→share experiences→show ways.
B.Give examples→share experiences→show ways→express ideas.
C.Share experiences→show ways→give examples→express ideas.
D.Express ideas→share experiences→give examples→show ways.

Perhaps that is why the Chinese have been using it for more than 4, 000 years to treat all kinds of medical problems. Today, scientists know that there are catechin, caffeine, vitamin C and theanine in green tea that are good for health.
Catechin is helpful for lowering (降低) cancer (癌症) risk. It protects the body from cancer-causing substances (物质) and slows the growth of cancer. Besides fighting cancer, catechin prevents serious health problems like heart disease.
Caffeine causes the heart to beat faster. That’s why it was once thought that caffeine was not very healthy, but studies suggest that there are also good reasons for drinking caffeine. Specifically, caffeine has to do with a lower risk for Parkinson’s disease and liver (肝脏) disease. Yet, caffeine also has some weaknesses. It can influence sleep and make people nervous, so experts advise teenagers not to have more than 100 ml of caffeine a day. This is about the caffeine of a small cup of coffee.
Vitamin C is something that the human body cannot make enough by itself. So we have to get it through food and drink. The vitamin may play a role in improving physical conditions to colds and the flu. Also, it helps people to get well more quickly from those illnesses.
Theanine is another healthy substance found in tea. It has been shown to lower stress, both mental and physical, and increase mind abilities. It is also used for preventing some brain diseases.
As you can see, green tea has many good values. Drinking it may help you stay healthy. Of course, as with any healthy substance, it is important to check if there are any bad influence as well.

Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. Every home there will have a “telepresence” system (远程遥控系统) — allowing users to control the heating and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, health care and government services. Around the city, escalators (自动扶梯) will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business. About 75% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be more modern to deal with the coming problems. “Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener,” said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

(23-24九年级上·湖南怀化·期末)Happiness is important to everyone. Most people want to be happy but few know how to find happiness. Money and success don’t bring long-lasting happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness.
Some people believe that if they are wealthy, with the money they will be able to do anything they want, which means happiness. On the other hand, some people believe that holding a high position in the government is happiness. In this way, you have not only money, but also many other things which can’t be bought by money. However, other people believe that having lots of money is not happiness, nor is holding a high position in the government. These people value (重视) their beliefs, or their intelligence, or their health. They think these can make them happy.

You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have close friends usually enjoy happier and healthier lives.
The second secret of happiness is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to do many meaningful things for other people. (23-24九年级上·江苏扬州·期末)You are running around in the park. But then suddenly, you fall and hurt yourself. “Ow!” you cry. This sound is very familiar to us all. Crying out when we get hurt is a natural reaction. But what is it about this sound that makes us shout it out
Scientists from the National University of Singapore now believe they’ve found the answer. The effort of shouting the word “ow” actually interferes (干预) with pain messages traveling to the brain. So by shouting it out, it distracts us from the feeling of pain.
The scientists tested how long volunteers could hold their hands in very cold water. There were five rounds of the test. In the first round, they were allowed to shout “ow” when they felt pain. In another round, they had to stay silent.
The results showed that volunteers were able to keep their hands in the cold water for longer when they were allowed to shout out. They managed around 30 seconds on average, five seconds more than when they had to remain silent.
“We found that a simple vocal act such as saying ‘ow’ helps individuals deal with pain,” the report from the scientists stated.
What’s more, expressions of pain are shared among languages. While cries of “ow” or “ouch” are heard in English, South Africans yell “eina”, Italians shout “ahia” and Chinese “aiyo”.
Scientists said in the report: “Shared among these languages is a sound during which the mouth simply opens, the tongue lies flat (水平的) and the lips unrounded. It is a simple sound that requires little control while maximizing (充分利用) the volume.” So these sounds are useful to shout if we feel pain.

As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens usually appears a dragon. It’s a symbol of light, growth and life-giving water. (2023九年级·重庆·专题练习)① Green is the color of nature and the symbol of life. For thousands of years, humans have followed the laws of nature to live in harmony (和谐) with nature.
② That has been seen in ancient Chinese houses. Ancient Chinese often built their homes at the foot of the mountain with a river running nearby. The mountains could stop the cold wind from the north and the river provided water for life. Most houses were also built facing south or west so that the rooms were able to get enough sunshine in winter and keep cool in summer.
③ In modern times, humans didn’t follow the laws of nature during fast development. Luckily, it’s never too late to make changes.
④ Green development is the goal of all countries. On April 23, 2016, China signed the Paris Agreement on climate change, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global (全球的) warming.
⑤ Also in China, the government added green development to the country’s work plans. From 1999 to the end of 2018, by carrying out Mother River Protection Operation, China raised 600 million yuan to build over 5,700 green projects. Through international cooperation (合作), over 98.32 million trees were planted across China.
⑥ Denmark is a leading country in wind and solar technologies. This year Denmark has started the “Power-to-X” plan, providing about 1.25 billion kroner (about 1.27 billion yuan) for projects producing hydrogen (氢气).
⑦ Builders across the world are also playing a role in green development. In Chicago, pressed newspaper, recycled glass and plastic are used on buildings. In Bali, the green school is made from bamboo. The school gets its electricity (电) from solar panels (太阳能电池板), water power and a generator that burns farm waste.
⑧ Following the laws of nature is the only way out. A small move in one country may influence the global community as a whole. Let’s join our hands to make the world a better place for now and future.
