Lesson 4 Using Language (1)
答 疑
I. A student’s presentation
Good morning, everybody. I’m glad to have this opportunity to introduce you to a famous work of art. It is called A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains.
First, let me tell you the background of this painting. It is the only work that Northern Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng handed down, which illustrated the concept of harmonious coexistence between human and nature. In history, the emperor of the Northern Song Dynasty had strict requirements for court painters in both the form and the colour. As a result, Wang Ximeng created this painting with his talent.
Homework review
On the basis of the natural beauty, Wang showed a more refined style of ink wash painting. The painting depicted the beautiful rivers and mountains of our motherland. For instance, high mountain cliff, waterfalls, houses dotted with green willow, as well as graceful waterside pavilions seemed to be lively and sensible due to Wang’s excellent skills.
A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains is regarded as one of the Chinese top ten paintings handed down from ancient times. The outstanding point of this masterpiece is the painter of the magnificent scene of nature for realistic and idealized picture, who was apparently proud of this country.
To sum up, A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains is undoubtedly a great example of the Chinese ink wash painting. It has had a vital impact on Chinese art up till now.
