Felicia Jackson was certified in CPR, but that didn’t stop her from drawing a blank in the face of a real-life crisis. When her son stopped breathing in the back seat of her car, she froze in panic. Thankfully, her husband remained calm and was able to save their child. However, Felicia was shaken to find that, with all her years of medical experience, she wasn’t able to respond to her son’s emergency under pressure.
This unpleasant situation inspired Felicia to come up with a simple tool to make performing CPR easier, especially in high-risk situation. She created the CPR Wrap, a pocket-sized packaging device that can be laid over the body of the victim to show where the rescuer should put their hands and mouth. Not only does the product provide helpful instructions, but it also includes a face shield (挡板) and a one-way breathing barrier. This cuts down on the transfer of germs while performing mouth-to-mouth.
“Even people experienced in CPR can forget their training in stressful situations,” reads the description on the product’s website. “CPR Wrap makes it possible for those individuals to effectively perform CPR at a moment’s notice.”
Although that CPR Wrap was launched in 2017, one video on the TikTok account has recently gone viral. In the video, Felicia shows viewers the simple process of using her product to perform CPR. She adds that it’s “so easy a child could do it.” The brand now boasts over 100,000 followers and 2 million likes.
Felicia Jackson is the inventor, founder, and CEO of CPR Wrap. Her son’s near-death experience inspired her to become the entrepreneur (企业家) she is today. After receiving her A.A.S in Physical Therapy in 2018, she continued to pursue education. She graduated from Launch of Chattanooga Entrepreneurial Academy in 2020 and established the Colab Accelerator Program in 2021. She and her husband now have three children. Felicia hopes to pass on her entrepreneurial spirit to her children so they may one day start businesses of their own.

A. It’s touching. B. It’s convincing.
C. It’s shocking. D. It’s irresponsible.
25. Why did Felicia invent the device CPR Wrap
A. To establish her own business.
B. To help others be prepared for emergency.
C. To improve professionals’ first aid skills.

When it comes to going green, intention can be easier than action. Case in point: you decide to buy a T-shirt made from 100% organic cotton. But that green label doesn’t tell the whole story—like the fact that even organic cotton requires more than 10,000 L of water to grow enough fibre for one T-shirt. Or the possibility that the T-shirt may have been dyed (染色) using harmful industrial chemicals. If you knew all that, would you still consider the T-shirt green Would you still buy it
It’s a hard question to answer. That’s because the global economy development is beyond our ability to comprehend the consequences—for ourselves and the planet. We are not prepared to understand the increasing impact of industrial chemicals on our children’s health or the climate. And we lack the data to understand the full impact of what we choose.
But what if we could calculate the full lifetime effect of our actions on the earth and on our bodies Not just carbon footprints but social and biological footprints as well What if we could think ecologically That’s what psychologist Daniel Goleman describes in his forthcoming book, Ecological Intelligence. He compiles (汇编) the environmental and biological impact of our every decision and delivers that information to consumers in a user-friendly way. That’s thinking ecologically—understanding the global environmental consequences of our local choices.
Ecological intelligence is ultimately about more than what we buy. It’s also about our ability to accept that we live in a closely connected world with limited resources. Goleman highlights the Tibetan community of Sher, where for thousands of years, villagers have survived severe conditions by carefully protecting every resource available to them. The Tibetans think ecologically because they have no other choice. Neither do we. “We once had the luxury to ignore our impacts,” says Goleman. “Not any more.”
28. Why is it hard for us to decide whether a T-shirt is green or not
A. The green label tells lies. B. We lack enough knowledge.
C. The economy grows too slowly. D. We are misled by false data.
29. What does Ecological Intelligence encourage readers to do
A. Increase carbon footprints. B. Give up regular consumption.
C. Develop ecological thinking. D. Deliver information to customers.
30. How do the Tibetans of Sher live
A. By searching for new resources. B. By living on plentiful resources.
C. By distributing resources reasonably. D. By treasuring their resources seriously.
31. What’s the purpose of the text
A. To instruct manufacturers how to go green.
B. To introduce and advocate ecological intelligence.
C. To warn people of the dangers of ecological crisis.
D. To illustrate the origin of ecological intelligence.

In a major step forward for monitoring the biodiversity of marine systems, a new study published in the journal Environmental DNA details how Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) researchers are using autonomous underwater robots to sample environmental DNA (eDNA), which allows scientists to detect the presence of aquatic species from the tiny bits of genetic (遗传学的) material they leave behind. This “DNA soup” offers clues about biodiversity changes in sensitive areas and the presence of rare or endangered species—all critical to understanding and preserving a healthy ocean.
Researchers combined two novel autonomous platforms developed by MBARI for this study—the Long-Range Autonomous Underwater Vehicle LRAUV and the Environmental Sample Processor (ESP). The LRAUV can travel for weeks at a time and for hundreds of kilometers. It can enable more frequent sampling in remote sites than traditional research ships. The ESP is a robotic “laboratory-in-a-can” that filters seawater and preserves eDNA for future study. By equipping an LRAUV with ESP technology, researchers can monitor the ocean better.
“We know that eDNA is an incredibly powerful tool for studying ocean communities, but we’ve been limited by what we can accomplish using expensive crewed research ships. Now, autonomous technology is helping us make better use of our time and resources to study previously unsurveyed regions of the ocean,” said Kobun Truelove, a biological oceanographer at MBARI and the lead author of the paper.
Marine biodiversity is a measure of the abundance of individuals and species in the ocean. This interconnected mixture of organisms supports food webs, produces the air we breathe, and regulates our climate. Autonomous tools like the LRAUV and ESP enable MBARI researchers to monitor changes in sensitive ecosystems in ways that were not possible previously.
“Ship-based research will continue to play an important role in oceanographic studies, but adding new autonomous technology to the toolkit (工具包) will expand capacity for research, monitoring, and resource management,” said Truelove.
32. What do the underlined words “aquatic species” in paragraph 1 refer to
A. Those living in water. B. Those growing near water.
C. Those becoming endangered. D. Those consuming eDNA.
33. What can the LRAUV do
A. Filter seawater effectively.
B. Preserve eDNA for future study.
C. Travel for months at a time in the ocean.
D. Reach remote areas of the ocean frequently.
34. What can we infer from Truelove’s words
A. Autonomous technology is more economical and efficient.
B. Ship-based research is more time-saving and energy-saving.
C. Autonomous robots have entirely replaced traditional research ships.
D. Crewed research ships help researchers study new parts of the ocean.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. Researchers Discover a “DNA Soup”
B. Autonomous Technology Needs Improving
C. Robots Sample eDNA to Monitor Ocean Health
D. The Biodiversity of the Ocean Needs Protection

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It’s a great pity that I had not put forth the amount of effort required. I had spent too much time playing with my friends instead of improving myself. I had let down my teacher, who was the kindest, sweetest, and prettiest one I had ever known. She laughed often, and never threatened any of us, yet she was able to “read” the children, control the class, and teach effectively. Miss Pratt put a lot of herself into her work. Every day near the close of school, she would read to us, or even better, tell us stories about when she was a little girl. Most importantly, she made us feel that she cared about us and that we were important.
Because of a serious car accident when I was three and a half years old, I had a scar below my nose that was the result of a torn upper lip. Everything else had healed up without any after effects physically, but my emotions remained scarred. Meanwhile, having been called “Chief Running Nose” and “Scarface” by many insensitive children, my confidence had suffered. Although my parents and relatives referred to me as pretty, I did not see myself that way.
Focusing on my scar, I could not appreciate any redeeming features (可取之处). At the end of one school day, I remained in my classroom, waiting for the arrival of my mother, who was coming to take me to an appointment close to the school. Miss Pratt sat at her desk with a fellow teacher and chatted.
I glanced at the clock and realized it was time to get ready to leave. I put on my wool coat and hat. The teachers looked at my clothes and seemed to admire it. I was able to read their lips a little and my ears perked up to hear, “Who is she She really is cute.” My teacher Miss Pratt answered, “I agree; Bernice is quite adorable.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
