第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,共34分)
第一节(共12小题;每小题2分,共24分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
They talk about the straw (稻草) that broke the camel’s back, but really it should be the password that wiped out my memory bank.
I was going along fine-with instant recall of my bank PIN (密码), my mobile phone number and the date of my cousin’s birthday before I downloaded a gas station payment app for its new customer discount. It asked me to create a password. When I typed in “gas 1”, it was rejected for not being complex enough. I tried again: “IHateHearlessOilCompanies@”. But that was too long and didn’t include “at least one number”. But here is the thing: as soon as I added the fresh password into my memory, I instantly forgot all the others. My brain had hit its limit for passwords. I now know nothing.
I had entered some passwords in a notebook. Of course, I didn’t write down the actual passwords, in case it fell into the wrong hands. Instead, I masked them in a way that only a family member could figure them out. For example, I combined my bank PIN with our postal code, then added it to a list of phone numbers. It would fool even Albert Einstein.
Maybe we need a system like the one we use to remember people’s names. You know, you form an association between a person’s characteristics and their name by whispering “Skinny George. Skinny George” in heart after meeting them. The risk is that, upon seeing him, you’ll burst out the phrase. “Skinny George” might not mind, but it’s possible “Boring Betty” will. As for remembering passwords as you change them, you could simply use the first and last letters of your favorite singer’s greatest hits, together with the year of their release.
Maybe I’ll try that one out, but only after describing the system in the notebook. Then I’ll hide it in a place so secret that I’ll never remember where it is.
1. What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs
A. He fell for a marketing trick. B. He was driven mad by passwords.
C. He had a serious memory disorder. D. He was rejected by the gas station.
2. By mentioning Albert Einstein in paragraph 3, the author intends to ________.
A. promote a more scientific password system B. challenge the intelligence of scientists
C. prove the uselessness of his passwords D. show how secure his passwords were
3. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To encourage readers to use password notebooks.
B. To recommend a password-remembering method.
C. To complain about the trouble caused by passwords.
D. To emphasize the importance of using complex passwords.
4. What is the tone of the text
A. Mournful. B. Indifferent. C. Serious. D. Humorous.
B
We don’t think with a pen and paper. We “think” with Google. We don’t even have to complete the search question ourselves. Google’s auto-complete function takes that burden off our shoulders by telling us what we should be searching for and what we should be thinking. We then sort through selected results to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything. This process gives us the false impression of thinking — when, in realty, we’ve lost touch with one of the most basic of human experiences.
Thinking for yourself isn’t just about reducing external inputs. It’s about making thought an intentional practice and thinking about an issue before researching it. It’s about forgetting the habit of immediately looking to others for answers and instead becoming curious about our own thoughts.
Deep thinking requires time. It’s only by concentrating on the problem or question long enough that you’ll dive deeper and locate better insights. Most of us resist setting aside time for deep thinking because it doesn’t produce immediate obvious results. But ideas, as the filmmaker David Lynch puts it, are like fish: “If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you’ve got to go deeper.”
After you’ve gone deeper on a question by thinking about it yourself, turn to reading what others have written about it. But don’t pause your own thinking. The goal of reading isn’t just to understand. It’s to treat what you read as a tool — a key to unlocking what’s inside of you. Some of the best ideas that come up when I’m reading a book aren’t from the book. An idea I read will often knock out a related thought in me that was previously hidden. The text will act as a mirror, helping me see myself and my thoughts more clearly.
Breakthroughs lie-not in absorbing all the wisdom outside of you -but in uncovering the wisdom within you.
5. Why does the author mention Google in the first paragraph
A. To compare it with pens and paper. B. To stress its convenience to our life.
C. To give examples of its multi-function. D. To remind us to do the real thinking.
6. What does the underlined phrase “external inputs” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Sharing your ideas online. B. Asking questions about life.
C. Seeking answers from others. D. Making intentional thoughts.
7. What does David Lynch think of deep thinking
A. It is worth the endeavor. B. It turns out to be time-consuming.
C. It requires some basic skills. D. It presents an exciting challenge.
8. Why does the author suggest reading after thinking
A. To find out ideas from books. B. To fully take in others’ wisdom.
C. To bring out our inner thoughts. D. To understand the question better.
C
When robots and humans interact in the same environment, it is important for them to move in techniques that monitor an environment, predict the future actions of humans, identify secure track for a robot and control its movements accordingly.
Predicting human behavior and movements, however, can be incredibly challenging. Determining the future movements of a robot, on the other hand, could be far easier. If human users could anticipate the movements of robots and the effects these will have on the surrounding environment, they should then be able to easily adapt their actions in order to avoid accidents.
With this in mind, researchers at Kyushu University in Japan recently created a near-future perception system named Previewed Reality that allows human users to forecast future changes in their environment, which could then inform their decisions and guide their actions. This system compiles (编译) a data-set containing information about the position of objects, humans and robots within the same environment, to then produce simulations (模拟) of events that could take place in the near future. These simulations are presented to human users via Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR) headsets.
To collect information about the position of different objects, robots, and humans in the same environment, the researchers used a number of strategically placed sensors, including optical trackers that monitored the movements of objects or robots, and a RGB-D camera which mainly tracked human actions. The data gathered by the sensors was then fed to a motion planner and a dynamics bining these two system components allowed the researchers to forecast changes in a given environment and synthesize (合成) images of events that are likely to occur in the near future, from the viewpoint of a specific human. Human users could then view these synthesized images simply through a VR headset or an AR display.
“This system provides human-friendly communication between a human and a robotic system.” the researchers explained. In their next studies, they plan to expand and simplify the perception system, for instance by creating a lighter and more affordable version that can operate on smart phones or other portable devices.
9. Why did the researchers develop the system
A. To predict future changes in human behavior.
B. To record developments in the field of robotics.
C. To enhance safety of human-robot interactions.
D. To make good use of virtual reality technology.
10. What is special about Previewed Reality
A. It simulates near-future events via VR headsets.
B. It enables human users to perceive future events.
C. It guides robots to track humans’ movements easily.
D. It helps determine the position information of objects.
11. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The functions of the system components. B. The dynamic way to synthesize images.
C. The inner structure of Previewed Reality. D. The working procedure of Previewed Reality.
12. What might the researchers do in the future
A. Promote the new version through advertising.
B. Trial this perception system with smart phones.
C. Make the system accessible on portable devices.
D. Apply some new techniques to robotic systems.

Everyone knows that the choices we make affect our future. Suppose I am an intelligent student with good marks. However, being lazy, I do badly in my examinations. I am refused entry to university and cannot find a good job. The golden future will never be.____13____
However, your choices affect your future in a way that is more complicated.____14____ Your character is displayed through your choices, but it is also formed by them. Whenever you make a choice, your character changes or grows, depending on whether the decision you made is wise or foolish. ____15____ And so, you become the sort of person who will make a certain kind of choice in a certain situation.
____16____ After all, the field of human choice is a narrow one. Most of the things that form us in our lives are not subject to choice. We cannot choose when and where to be born, whether our families will be rich or poor, kind or cruel. We cannot even entirely control who we will meet in our lives. With so much that we cannot choose, how can we be said to be responsible for anything
However, we do have some power of choice, and we do control the most important thing of all: how we respond to circumstances.____17____ It is our key to having confidence in the future. It is human nature to fear the future, as the future is unknown. You cannot entirely control what will happen to you tomorrow. But if you have confidence in your character, then you do know one thing for certain about the future: no matter what happens, you will make a choice that you will be proud of.
A. Some will argue this is not true.
B. All these are from a bad choice!
C. Too many choices can be confusing.
D. This ability to choose how we behave is a great gift.
E. We can choose to keep struggling in hard times, or to give up.

95. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
After a very meaningful conversation with my dad about the old days, we came up with an object that we both remembered clearly. It was my first bicycle. My mind told me I got it when I was seven, who was cheated to ride it for fifty yards alone the first time I tried!
My dad put together all the small pieces of the bicycle from a beautiful material that he called, “Your own car.” Of course I knew he had some magical ability, but I didn’t think he could make such an awesome object. He added the seat and the pedals (脚踏板) so that I would not have any problems. My dad recalled the bicycle was the smallest he could find while I remember how huge it was. I was so afraid of it and there was no way that I was going to control that monster-sized material. The bicycle was left in my backyard as a decoration for a month because I refused to ride it. Honestly, I was scared to try it.
After a month, my dad gave me a lecture to teach me what being a man was all about. I was finally determined to try it. My dad was proud of me and I felt very manly. He and I went to the park to see what we could do there. The park was empty when we arrived. I had no doubt that my dad told everybody not to be there because we had to use it. I felt sorry for other people, but I was proud to have such an capable person as my dad. We found a smooth and open space. My dad was holding the back part of the seat to make sure I didn’t fell. He promised me that I was not going to fall because he would be running right behind, holding the bicycle.

【答案】5. D 6. C 7. A 8.

【答案】9. C 10. B 11. D 12. C

G. This is because nearly all the choices you make affect your character.
【答案】13. B 14. G 15. F 16. A 17. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要说明了选择的影响以及影响选择的因素。
【13题详解】
根据上文“Everyone knows that the choices we make affect our future. Suppose I am an intelligent student with good marks. However, being lazy, I do badly in my examinations. I am refused entry to university and cannot find a good job. The golden future will never be.(每个人都知道我们所做的选择会影响我们的未来。假设我是一个聪明的学生,成绩好。然而,由于懒惰,我在考试中表现很差。我被大学拒之门外,也找不到好工作。美好未来永远不会有)”以及下文陈述对选择对我们的影响推知,空处应引出话题。故B选项“所有这都来自一个坏的选择”符合语境,these指代上文提到的“I do badly in my examinations. I am refused entry to university and cannot find a good job. The golden future will never be”,“a bad choice”指上文的“being lazy”。故选B。
【14题详解】
根据上文“However, your choices affect your future in a way that is more complicated.(然而,你的选择以一种更复杂的方式影响着你的未来)”以及后文“Your character is displayed through your choices, but it is also formed by them.(你的性格是通过你的选择展现出来的,但它也是由你的选择形成的)”可知,后文提到了性格会影响选项,本句解释上文“更复杂的方式”指的是性格。故G选项“这是因为你所做的几乎所有选择都会影响你的性格”符合语境,故选G。
【15题详解】
根据上文“Whenever you make a choice, your character changes or grows, depending on whether the decision you made is wise or foolish.(每当你做出选择时,你的性格就会改变或成长,这取决于你做出的决定是明智的还是愚蠢的)”以及后文“And so, you become the sort of person who will make a certain kind of choice in a certain situation.(因此,你成为了那种在特定情况下会做出特定选择的人)”可知,性格是由选择塑造的。故F选项“你的性格是由你一点一点、一个又一个选择塑造出来的”符合语境,故选F。
【16题详解】
根据后文“After all, the field of human choice is a narrow one. Most of the things that form us in our lives are not subject to choice. We cannot choose when and where to be born, whether our families will be rich or poor, kind or cruel. We cannot even entirely control who we will meet in our lives. With so much that we cannot choose, how can we be said to be responsible for anything 故选A。
【17题详解】
根据上文“However, we do have some power of choice, and we do control the most important thing of all: how we respond to circumstances.(然而,我们确实有一些选择的权力,我们确实控制着最重要的事情:我们如何应对环境)”以及后文“It is our key to having confidence in the future. It is human nature to fear the future, as the future is unknown. You cannot entirely control what will happen to you tomorrow. But if you have confidence in your character, then you do know one thing for certain about the future: no matter what happens, you will make a choice that you will be proud of.(这是我们对未来充满信心的关键。

I started to pedal and the bicycle moved. As the wheels responded beautifully and smoothly, it was for the first time that I felt this sensation of freewheeling. Carefully steering the bicycle, my heart thumped as the bicycle was accelerating. Attempting to behave manly, I sat straight, pedaling and wondering whether and when I could handle the bike on my own. Minutes ticked by before it hit me that my dad would be worn out after following me for such a long distance. “Dad, you could let go if you are tired.” I yelled. No response!
I turned around and found my dad was not behind. My mind going blank, I was scared out of wits! I landed on the road and fell off the bike before I knew where the brakes were. Luckily, I only got some scratches on the knees and elbows. Minutes later, my dad caught up and congratulated me on my being manly for cycling 50 yards on my own. After a few more hours’ practice I learnt how to pedal, steer, turn and brake properly. A little frightening as the experience was, I felt the joy of learning to do something independently and grateful for the meaningful memory with my father.
